The Salvation Content of the King of the North

John Thiel mp3

Scripture Reading: Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

I wish to share with you a very important thought because I understand all of you who are gathered here have a united stand on the subject of Daniel chapter 11 and the king of the north.

This subject has been bandied about amongst modern Adventism with so many conflicting views. Not only this subject, but so many others of the original Adventist message that has been left to go astray in the minds of modern Adventism today. Because of the big discussions to and fro on some of some of these subjects, there are many people that say nowadays – “ah, is it really so important? I’m tired of the of the discussion and of the conflict on these subjects; let’s concentrate on salvation.”

The Drying Up of the River Euphrates

By John Thiel, mp3, pdf

Scripture reading: Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed [is] he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

This statement is couched among the words of the sixth plague of Revelation 16. This is the pouring out of the sixth plague:

Revelation 16:12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. Read the rest of this entry

Islamic Powers and the King of the North

The following is from a Turkish editor, of a paper called the Vakit written 100 years ago:

“We shall do our utmost to keep England’s support; but at last, if we do not succeed in it, then it is very easy to know what we have to do. When Europe will not look at us, then we shall lay aside all the European customs which we have adopted, and enter our own old way; form the boy of thirteen to the old man of seventy-five, everyone one of us will be armed, and we shall defend by the will of God, and by the daring of the old days, the country we have held for five hundred years. And if the issue should come to this, as Islamism is not confined to Turkey, then we will blend all the different Moslem races into one ; the Moslems of India, of Central Asia, of the Caucasus, of Africa, and of Algeria will come forward, and we shall again take measures which we once adopted for the conquest of Jerusalem. We shall send proclamations everywhere, and declare a general war against Christendom. Read the rest of this entry

Is the Papacy the King of the North?

The king of the north in Daniel 11:40-45 just has to be the papacy! This was the view of Martin Luther back in the 16th century. In 1798 the time of the end began and the book of Daniel was unsealed. Now men began to study this book in earnest and knowledge of the prophecies was increased just as God said would happen. Now that God was opening up men’s understanding, what did some of the prominent Millerites teach on this topic?

The Eastern Question and Willie White

Adapted from John Witcombe’s articles

Uriah Smith died in 1903. Here was what Ellen White wrote concerning Elder Smith in 1902:

“We can easily count the first burden bearers now alive [1902]. Elder [Uriah] Smith was connected with us at the beginning of the publishing work. He labored in connection with my husband. We hope always to see his name in the Review and Herald at the head of the list of editors; for thus it should be. Those who began the work, who fought bravely when the battle went so hard, must not lose their hold now. They are to be honored by those who entered the work after the hardest privation had been borne. I feel very tender toward Elder Smith. My life interest in the publishing work is bound up with his. He came to us as a young man, possessing talents that qualified him to stand in his lot and place as an editor. How I rejoice as I read his articles in the Review–so excellent, so full of spiritual truth. I thank God for them. I feel a strong sympathy for Elder Smith, and I believe that his name should always appear in the Review as the name of the leading editor. Thus God would have it. When, some years ago, his name was placed second, I felt hurt. When it was again placed first, I wept and said, “Thank God.” May it always be there, as God designs it shall be, while Elder Smith’s right hand can hold a pen. And when the power of his hand fails, let his sons write at his dictation.” 20MR 220 Read the rest of this entry

Kedar

Isaiah 21:16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:

Here is a time prophecy that has to do with a literal year not a prophetic year. According to the years of an hireling. Who is Kedar that all his glory shall fail?

Genesis 25:13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

Who was Kedar? He was the Arab who came from Ishmael. The Arabs came from Ishmael. Kedar is specifically mentioned to come to his end and none shall help him. All his glory would be taken away within a year. It is interesting to connect Kedar the Arab world and Turkey. Kedar and Mesech are connected and in the ancient world. Mesech was in Turkey. They have always been a trouble spot for the Jews.

The King of the North and the Time of the End

By Eric Betts, mp3

Daniel chapter 11 is a prophecy unlike the previous prophecies in the book of Daniel in that it is a literal prophecy in the same vein that the Saviour’s discourse on the mount of Olives is descriptive of a literal prophecy fulfilment.

In other words, the symbols that you find in the other prophecies don’t exist in Daniel 11. Daniel 11 is speaking in very plain language, just as Revelation 16 is speaking to us in very plain language. As a matter of fact, the Bible uses this terminology here in Daniel chapter 11.

The True Pioneer Position of the King of the North

By Gene Brown (used with permission)

Daniel 11:45 & Daniel 12:1

We need to come into unity on this subject, and the only way that will happen is if we accept the truth our pioneers established and build on the light that God has already given. It is imperative that we understand this prophecy.

Probation is soon to close, and “the final movements will be rapid ones”. “He [The person asking; what shall I do to inherit eternal life?] has a chart pointing out every waymark on the heavenward journey, and he ought not to guess at anything.” Great Controversy, page 598

The world is stirred with the spirit of war. The prophecy of the eleventh chapter of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment. Soon the scenes of trouble spoken of in the prophecies will take place.” Testimonies, vol. 9, page 14

“I am pained at my very heart; . . . I cannot hold my peace, because thou has heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. Jeremiah 4:19 Read the rest of this entry

What Did the Early Adventist Church Teach About the Eastern Question?

From the book Bible Readings for the Home Circle (1914 Edition)

Chapter 65 – The Eastern Question

1. WHAT, briefly stated, is the Eastern question?

The driving out of Turkey from Europe, and the final extinction of the Turkish Empire, with the world-embracing events that follow. It has been otherwise described as “the driving of the Turk into Asia, and a scramble for his territory.” Read the rest of this entry

The Key to the King of the North

Who invaded Egypt at the time of the end 1798?  The French under the leadership of Napoleon. On the 5th of March following, Bonaparte received the decree of the Directory relative to the expedition against Egypt. He left Paris May 3 and set sail from Toulon the 29th, with a large naval armament consisting of 500 sail, carrying 40,000 soldiers and 10,000 sailors. July 5, Alexandria was taken, and immediately fortified.   Did the king of the south (Egyptian Mamelukes) push at him (Napoleon)?  In the battle of the pyramids the Mamelukes contested the field against the French. In the vision of Daniel 11 and 12 the king of the south is in all cases the kingdom that occupies Egypt the land south of Palestine.

The time of the end in all cases being the year 1798 and the king of the north in all cases being the power that occupies Egypt. In Daniel 11:5-15 the power occupying Egypt was the Ptolemaic dynasty.  In Dan 11:25 it was the Roman Power under the leadership of Mark Antony and Cleopatra.  While in Dan 11:40 it was the Mamelukes who ruled Egypt as a kingdom of the Ottoman Sultan.  This leads to the conclusion that the king of the north must be whatever power occupies the territories of Asia Minor, Syria and Mesopotamia (the land North of Palestine).  In Dan 11:6-15 it was the Seleucid dynasty while in Dan 11:40 it was the Ottoman Turks.

The King of the North is Not the Papacy

By George Burnside

Before me is a paper prepared by a group of Seventh day Adventist laymen. As I have been asked by several friends to answer some of the theories advanced, I feel I am duty bound to do so. The divine instruction is clear:

1 PETER 3:15 “Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you.”

PROVERBS 15:28 “The heart of the religious studies to answer.”

So I will do my best to follow this instruction. On page two, near the bottom of the first column of the paper we read:- Read the rest of this entry

Ellen White, the Eastern Question and the King of the North

Sunday morning the weather was still cloudy, but before it was time for the people to assemble the sun shone forth. Boats and trains poured their living freight upon the ground, as was the case last year. Elder Smith spoke in the morning upon the Eastern question. The subject was of special interest, and the people listened with the most earnest attention. It seemed to be just what they wanted to hear. {RH, September 6, 1877 par. 11} She also said;
