Who is Kedar?
Isaiah 21:16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:
Here is a time prophecy that has to do with a literal year not a prophetic year. According to the years of an hireling. Who is Kedar that all his glory shall fail?
Genesis 25:13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,
Who was Kedar? He was the Arab who came from Ishmael. The Arabs came from Ishmael. Kedar is specifically mentioned to come to his end and none shall help him. All his glory would be taken away within a year. It is interesting to connect Kedar the Arab world with Turkey. Kedar and Mesech are connected and in the ancient world, Mesech was in Turkey. They have always been a trouble spot for the Jews.
Psalms 120:5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! 6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace. 7 I am forpeace: but when I speak, they are for war.
Is this not the problem all the way through and still in existence today? Ever since Ishmael came into contact with his younger brother Isaac, there have been problems. The world problems of today are very much the Middle East conflicts. Here are Kedar and Mesech the Arab world and Turkey. All the glory within one year would be taken away. It is this conflict that Jesus utilises in His work. Notice how Jesus brings this out in His conversation with the apostles.
We have clearly seen the validity of God’s Word throughout our studies of the history from Persia through to the Arab states. We observe that God is interacting with humans by letting them exercise their free choices. He has prearranged and written down His final objective so those who choose God and salvation can be comforted in the amazing security that is found in the prophecies. That is what makes Daniel 11 such an interest. The people that respect and revere God can see life actually laid out before them before it has ever happened. They gain a tremendous confidence that they can really depend on God.
1 Corinthians 1:4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
Here is that security – the knowledge that He has it all mapped out and has revealed it to us.
1 Corinthians 1:6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God has given us the Spirit of Prophecy the testimony of Jesus for what? That as we see all the detail He has mapped out in the affairs of the human race, we can be confirmed and harmonised with His expectations when the consummation takes place in the day of His coming. Here is now the consummation that we are looking at.
John 13:19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
Matthew 24:25 Behold, I have told you before.
We come to our days in this prophecy to see Jesus in activity before we see Him physically. We’re looking at a prophecy that reveals the hiding of Himself behind the scenes. Those who are studying the prophecy can see Him with the eyes of faith and in the events that are happening around them. In our last study, we saw the Arab states – Turkey – the King of the North fighting against France. France needed to be desolated because it was desolating the one before him which was the pope and was announcing an atheist affront to God.
Turkey comes along and does its work. Then the detail of the Ottoman Empire also coming to its end is identified in Daniel 11:45 and Daniel 12:1 remembering that this is still the same vision. We are talking about the King of the North which was the last government living in the territory of Asia Minor – Turkey.
He Shall Come to His End
Daniel 11:45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
The Arab world has done precisely that. They built their tabernacles and mosques in Jerusalem between the seas and the glorious holy mountain. The whole issue of the Ottoman Empire taking over the Middle East is a vivid reality before us and there it was written many years ago. It was also written, yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
This is important for us to understand. This is the consummation. Revelation 9:13-15 was making reference to the 6th trumpet and the description of the Ottoman Empire.
Revelation 9:13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. 16And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
This was the arousing of the Arab world to become an empire from the 1400′s and its conclusion in 1840. This time prophecy gives us 391 years of the predominance of the Arab world as the Ottoman Empire. It was directly according to this time prophecy that on August 11, 1840 the Ottoman Empire now depended upon support. It was no longer an empire that had full control over itself. He shall come to his end, and none shall help him. We already see that the Ottoman Empire is no longer as powerful as it had once been. They would like to regain their power, but the time is coming when the empire will totally come to its end. The description of his end in Revelation 9:13-15 is also in Revelation 16:12-16. This is talking about the plagues, the consummation.

Revelation 9:14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
This is the Ottoman Empire to destroy the eastern Roman Empire. The period of time is a time prophecy which dealt with the Arab Ottoman Empire which was associated with the river Euphrates, with the four Sultans of the Arab Ottoman Empire. The river Euphrates had to do with the Arab world.
In the sixth plague the river Euphrates (the Arab world) is to be dried up so that it would prepare the way for the kings of the east to engage.
Daniel 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, [even] Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians [shall be] at his steps. 44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
This was the Crimean war.
Daniel 11:45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
By the time we come to this part of the prophecy, the king of the north is dealt with. Remember Michael and Gabriel are involved.
In terms of a river, that is the drying up of the river Euphrates because the king of the north was Turkey which was the capital of the Ottoman Empire.
Isaiah 21:16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:
This is during the plagues. The plagues run for one year. All the glory of Kedar will dry up.
Genesis 25:13 And these [are] the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,
In one year all the glory of the Arab (Kedar) will come to naught. The river Euphrates is being dried up in one year, during the plagues. That gives you an understanding that the plagues are not necessarily in sequence although they were given in sequence, they are not universal. There are different plagues of events that are taking place after the close of probation.
After centuries of Roman related wars, first Europe, then the east, the ultimate conclusion of it all is Armageddon. All the wars that have ever been fought have been fought to conquer each other and now comes the culmination where in their efforts to conquer one another it is the day of God’s wrath.
The summer is nigh, the harvest is to take place. The fig tree was about the revival of Israel. Why did they and all the other small nations have to be revived in 1948?
Jeremiah 25:15 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
The Arab States
The King of the North, the Ottoman Empire. What did the King of the North do as he overflowed and passed through his attack upon Napoleon?
Daniel 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
The Arabs, the Ottoman Empire comes down and takes over in the glorious holy mountain in the areas of Palestine, Israel and Jerusalem.
Daniel 11:42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
11:43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
Napoleon is attacking Egypt but the King of the North comes down into Egypt and fights against Napoleon. The Ottomans have some success. They managed to drive France out of Egypt. Egypt was left to rule in its own right but they had to pay tribute to the King of the North – the Arab Ottoman Empire.
Daniel 11:44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
Here is the King of the North being attacked with terrible tidings out of the east and north. Here are the Russians in the North and the Persians in the East – a direct event which prophecy pointed to. As the Ottoman Empire was working to do exploits against the King of France, they themselves are being damaged by the Russians and the Persians. This culminated in 1853 – 1956 in the Crimean War in which Turkey with the help of England and France was able to hold itself.
“The Crimean War: With the backing of Britain and France, the Turks declared war on Russia. The Turkish fleet was destroyed with the black sea port of Sinople, after which both Britain and France declared war on Russia and landed troops in the Crimea. Despite some bloody victories, the war dragged on and the Russians refused to come to terms. Finally, Sir Vestapole fell, but only after Austria threatened to enter the war did Russia agree to make peace. During the Crimean war more died of disease than did on the battle field.” Volume 1, page 172 of Scott’s Napoleon
Here is the activity of Michael the Prince. He is working to desolate one power after the other ever since the time of Jesus Christ the desolations of Judah, Pagan Rome, Papal Rome, France and its powers and the Ottoman Empire. What an interesting set of events that have been foreshadowed here by Daniel 11. From 1840 the Ottoman Empire was also severely affected. While it was working with the English and the French, it was no longer a powerful empire. It had received a very serious blow.
Daniel 11:45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
The end part of the prophecy is not completely fulfilled yet. In 1840 there was an event that took place where the Ottoman Empire first received a blow and from there onwards it became weaker and needed support from others.

We hear now of earthquakes in divers places, of fires, of tempests, of disasters by sea and land, of pestilence, of famine. What weight do these signs have upon you? This is only the beginning of what shall be. If such scenes as this are to come, such tremendous judgments on a guilty world, where will be the refuge for God’s people? How will they be sheltered until the indignation be overpast? John sees the elements of nature–earthquake, tempest, and political strife– represented as being held by four angels. These winds are under control until God gives the word to let them go. There is the safety of God’s church. The angels of God do His bidding, holding back the winds of the earth, that the winds should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree, until the servants of God should be sealed in their foreheads.
