Melchisedec, King of peace, the Holy Spirit

Melchisedec the King of Peace, the King Of Righteousness, the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 7:2 & 3)

We read in the holy writings that the Holy Spirit is an eternal heavenly being. He is called the Comforter but He is also called the third person of the Godhead by Ellen White. She says he is a very real eternal being himself and not just part of the other two personages of the Godhead, God the Father or God the Son or some essence that floats around from off of them. The three of them are all in co-partnership. The Bible teaches that the Father is the Most High as He is called that all through the Old Testament’s book of Daniel. Examples of the many places recorded there are such verses as Dan.4:24 and 34, 7:18, 22, and 27 to show just a few. In the New Testament a second witness is John who records for us more words on it.

John 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. 25 These things have I spoken unto you, being [yet] present with you. 26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Ellen White, among many other statements on the subject, wrote:

The Godhead was stirred with pity for the race, and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit gave Themselves to the working out of the plan of redemption. In order fully to carry out this plan, it was decided that Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, should give Himself an offering for sin. What line can measure the depth of this love? God would make it impossible for man to say that He could have done more. {CH 222.2}

The most complete proof of His being another person of the Godhead is told of in Hebrews 7 but including the last verse in chapter 6:

Hebrews 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. 7:1. For this Melchisedec king of Salem, priest of the most high god who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of kings and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness King of Salem which is, King of peace; 3 Without father, without mother without descent neither beginning of days, nor end of lifelike unto the son of god abideth a priest continually.

We can see by these verses Melchisedec has to be one of the Godhead as it is written that He has no beginning of days nor end of life just as is written about the other two persons. Ellen White stated Melchisedec was not Christ.

Melchizedek was not Christ, but he was the voice of God in the world, the representative of the Father. {1SM 409.3}

That same statement also shows He’s not the Father either but IS the voice of God. Ellen White statements show he is a divine being not having end of life. Melchisedec proves to be none other than Holy Spirit himself. When Mrs White was in Australia, there was a meeting held at the Avondale College on the subject of Melchizedek;

“When Mrs White was in Australia, there was a meeting held at the Avondale College – on the subject of Melchizedek. At the Council, the Editor of the Australian Signs of the Times had requested the privilege of presenting his views as to whom he supposed Melchizedek was. He read from a series of articles he had prepared for publishing in the Signs. Present at the meeting were Elder S. N. Haskell, Elder W. L. Baker, Professor Hughs, Mrs. White, and Elder G. B. Starr.

As the Editor of the Signs read through his articles, Mrs. White interrupted him, saying, Brother, I would not publish those articles if I were you. He enquired, Why not? She replied, Because they are not correct. The question was then asked, Who was Melchizedek then? Mrs. White answered:- “I will tell you who Melchizedek was. He was the Holy Spirit of God assuming human form. He represented Christ to the people of that generation.That brought the meeting to a close.

We know Jesus Himself is called in Scripture the Prince of Peace, but there in Hebrews 7 we saw Melchisedec called the King of Peace first. We refer everyone to read all of Hebrews chapters 5-10 to get the full picture. As it is written that Jesus Christ is High Priest after the order of Melchisedec so that means Christ priesthood follows the order of the Holy Ghost as is written. Those chapters including all following in Hebrews tell what ministry sanctuary is after the order of Melchisedec. That is what his ministry was like before Jesus started otherwise it could not be called after the order of Melchisedec. It says it is not after the order of Levitical priesthood where they were all born men and also died and stayed dead and others kept taking their places down through generations.

Jesus was the sacrificial lamb, and then He arose from the grave and became a high priest in heaven. That person, the Holy Spirit, was sent to be with us while Jesus is up there so there is always a representative of the Godhead with us. Truth is recorded in those chapters about both types of the priesthood. This all shows that the Holy Ghost is the first High Priest of that order. If Christ is made after the order of and like unto Him, Melchisedec, the Holy Ghost order, then the Holy Ghost is very humble. Some people just don’t realize the danger they are placing themselves in or what they are really doing and saying when they speak so boldly and flippantly about the Holy Ghost as if He were just a thing or an it. That is why the sin against Him is unpardonable because He can’t get through to those people when they reject Him as being One of the Godhead, the very One who is with us here and seeking to teach and guide us into all truth. He cannot do anything when He is rejected as not even being anybody by those people who do not even believe He is a “He”, let alone one of the Godhead and the first High Priest of that order. Let us all give Him the proper and due respect. Honor and reverence should be unto all the three persons of the Godhead as we are baptized through the name of all of them as it is written.

And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30.

Be blessed and have His peace and righteousness always with you.
