1 Corinthians 16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2 Upon the first [day] of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as [God] hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
What happens here? On the first day of the week, what should you do? It’s not an offering collection. On the first day of the week lay by HIM in store. It doesn’t say take it to church. On the first day of the week you need to separate some funds that you are going to give so when Paul comes there is no gathering as all the money is gathered.
This says lay by HIM in store. It was kept at home. This is why the Jewish people when they received their wages at the end of the week, they didn’t have time to work out what they were going to give on Sabbath. Instead of figuring it out during the Sabbath hours they left it to the next opportune time which was Sunday.
This is why when it comes to proper Sabbath keeping, we do not write out cheques out on Sabbath, we do not decide how much offerings we are going to give on Sabbath. It must be done on Sunday as it was the very next work day and that was the day that decided to disperse all their offerings. This is another statement in favour of Sabbath keeping and more stricter observance than we had imagined.
It is not a problem though, to pay tithe on Sabbath.
