Confirmed in the Testimony of Jesus

By John Thiel, mp3

The beautiful appeals of Jesus’ voice calling us and the deep emotional comfort that is found in the meditation of these words. We can hear His voice calling us; and as we come to Him, He draws us closer and answers us according to our inward need.

144,000 – Translated Without Seeing Death

Question: If the sealing of the 144,000 commenced in 1848, and some of that number have died and will be resurrected in the “special resurrection”, how can it be said that the 144,000 are translated without seeing death? If order to find the answer to this question, we must be willing to read the Word of God and the Spirit of Prophecy very, very, carefully, and to take it exactly as it reads. We open the consideration with the following statements:

Revelation 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty [and] four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. 14:2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: 14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred [and] forty [and] four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

Revelation 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, [and] over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous [are] thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true [are] thy ways, thou King of saints. Preparation for Heaven Via the Spirit of Prophecy

By John Thiel

Scripture Reading: Hosea 12:13 And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

Holy Jesus day by day, lead us in the narrow way.

All through my life I have been exposed to Adventism and sung these hymns and it used to puzzle me in my early youth and even later if Jesus is going to lead me in the narrow way. Jesus himself leading me in the narrow way, how is he going to do that? I was brought up with the Bible and yes the Bible would be the one who would lead me but being brought up in the conflicts of these last days with so called Bible religion it came to my understanding what I read was different to what others read in regard to interpretation. Should we quote the Spirit of Prohecy from the pulpit?

“But God will have a people upon the earth to maintain the Bible, and the Bible only, as the standard of all doctrines and the basis of all reforms.” (The Great Controversy, p. 595)
“The words of the Bible, and the Bible alone, should be heard from the pulpit.” (Prophets and Kings, p. 626)
If the words of the Bible only are to be heard from the pulpit, then does a preacher read from text to text?
When Ellen White preached, she used her own words. Is she saying that we can only read from text to text when preaching? Absolutely not. When we preach, we use words to connect the verses, or to summarize or to fill in with information which the verses otherwise would convey themselves. Each of her writings themselves are a sermon. She is just stating that which the Bible and the Bible only is conveying.
Sr. White is not a hypocrite. Her writings are no different to a sermon preaching exactly that which the Bible says and the very truths which the Bible conveys. It is in essence the Bible and the Bible only. There need be no confusion of the matter.
Ellen White means that the pulpit should be used only for the presentation of God’s word and not tradition, human theories or maxims.  Ellen White does not do this.  Her writings are only God’s word without those maxims and they can be used in the pulpit.
When Ellen White spoke from the pulpit, she was quoting the Spirit of Prophecy because she was the Spirit of Prophecy.

The Comfort of the Shepherd

By John Thiel

Under the reformation message and the time in which we are living there tends to develop a mentality of duty instead of joy and pleasure. I see this frequently in the leadership thrusts upon the church. We must do this we should be doing the other thing. There is a tendency to place upon the shoulders of the congregation a sense of responsibility instead of a sense of joyful service. Read the rest of this entry

How Inspired Was Ellen White?

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

The Bible is for the entire world since it has been codified. Ellen white is for the very end of time for that generation that will be alive when Jesus comes. The Bible was written to direct all men to Jesus Christ, Ellen White’s Spirit of Prophecy was written and her writings came to direct us to what his final work of atonement is in the most holy place. Her message was focused on a different aspect of the work of God in the great controversy.
