05 Reaching for Perfection

By John Thiel, Preparation for the Close of Probation Conference, Study 5, mp3

Probation is a period of time in which we are to be sanctified, rendered holy and without fault before God.  Jesus is at work to achieve that. We are to engage and participate with Him in that. That probation time is very, very close to coming to its completion. It is just like in the days of Noah, the people saw the animals coming into the ark; they could see that the door was about to close. For seven days those animals came. Then, after those seven days, if they would have listened and noticed the signs that probation was closing for them, they would have gone in the ark. But no, they were careless about it, they were scoffing. Read the rest of this entry

The Regenerating Power of the Word

By John Thiel, mp3

Scripture Reading: For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12

The creative power of the word; we want to be most passive in receiving, like when God created the world. The earth was a passive ball of water, and the word was spoken. We want to understand very clearly the meaning of a passive soul where that applies in regard to His word. Read the rest of this entry

02 Probation’s Imminent Conclusion and the King of the North

By John Thiel, Preparation for the Close of Probation Conference, Study 2, Audio: mp3

Probation is a time that is given us to gain a fitness for heaven. It is the period of time in which the gospel, through the work of justification, puts us in a position where, through the wonderful revelation of God’s character to us, we may pick up on the process and also receive the power to change our character, and to sanctify us. It is the period of the sowing and the growing of the crop according to the parable that Jesus gave us until the people like the grain are ready to be placed into the heavenly garner. 08 Nebuchadnezzar’s First Dream

By John Thiel, Lessons from the Life of Nebuchadnezzar Conference, mp3

God touched Nebuchadnezzar by displaying before him the faithfulness and intelligence and power of God in the lives of the four young princes. Nebuchadnezzar had a sensitivity by which he could recognise that these young men were special. Unconscious to him, he was actually recognising the image of God in them. He had trained them for those three years thinking that they were eating of the king’s meat, thinking that by giving them the names of his gods, they would be strategically influenced to lose their faith. But these young men were used of God to outwit this strategic man. God had conditioned Nebuchadnezzar’s mind and paved the way for the next step to impact his heart by using Daniel in a very meaningful manner. Read the rest of this entry

Restoration of the Marriage Institution

We are in need of understanding a question that has been tossed about in many minds and in ranks of Adventism. This question deals with the Words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, the mount of blessings and yet this verse has caused all sorts of complications and problems in the minds of people.

Matthew 5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Among the Jews a man was permitted to put away his wife for the most trivial offenses, and the woman was then at liberty to marry again. This practice led to great wretchedness and sin. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus declared plainly that there could be no dissolution of the marriage tie, except for unfaithfulness to the marriage vow. “Everyone,” He said, “that putteth away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.” R.V. {MB 63.1} Read the rest of this entry

06 Cruel Captivity

By John Thiel, Lessons from the Life of Nebuchadnezzar Conference, mp3

We are focusing upon the invasion of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar. We are often ignorant as to the details of this subject. Therefore we are now looking at the detail of this invasion for one important purpose, to learn the character of this king, so that in our continuing studies we may be able to see what sort of a character he had and what the Lord was doing to operate in his life. So that we may have an object lesson for dealing with our own character. Read the rest of this entry

02 God’s Outreach to Heathen Kings and Nations

By John Thiel, Lessons from the Life of Nebuchadnezzar Conference, mp3

We puzzle over the thought that God reaches out to heathen kings and heathen nations. The purpose that we have is to study the life of a heathen king. To learn of a heathen king? Read the rest of this entry

How to Cultivate the Christian Graces

By John Thiel, mp3

Scripture reading: Romans 12:9 [Let] love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 [Be] kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

…nourish the tender plant of love. Cultivate the graces of the spirit, cultivate tenderness, compassion for one another… {HM, January 1, 1892 par. 9} Read the rest of this entry

The Conviction of Sin and Our Effective Response

By John Thiel, mp3

We have a very wonderful God who provides us with such great hope. We are saved by hope. It is a hope in which although we feel condemned and the condemnation is upon us, there is hope through Jesus Christ. Secondly, it is the hope that is spoken of in Titus.

Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Here is another hope; looking for the appearing of Jesus Christ, the second coming of our Lord and Saviour. When these two hopes are both challenged in our mind, when Jesus is there searching His children through and through with as it were eyes of flame, there is a challenge that is expressed, a challenge that comes to all of us at some point or another; Who shall be able to stand?

No Railing Accusation

By John Thiel, mp3

Scripture Reading: Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

The messages that come from this pulpit are broadcast on the internet and it is my intention at this time to deliberately address the wider congregation together with those seated before me. Every sermon I have preached in the past has come from a deep reliance on God’s inspiration and a rendition of His written word, yet via an imperfect instrument of earthen clay. The Love Gospel

By John Thiel, mp3

Genuine Love

The love of God is not a watering down of God’s principles; it is an upholding of God’s principles when you carefully look at it. Sadly it is true that many fallen churches uphold the love gospel while they disregard absolute and correct law adherence. They say that the law is not as important as the love of God and because of this, every one who upholds the love gospel is identified with that kind of mentality of the fallen churches. Satan has painted a picture that true law keepers are not loving and loveable Christians; they teach judgment and law, legalism; they are void of God’s love. That is the picture that Satan draws.

Withhold Nothing

By John Thiel, mp3

As we live in this time of earth’s history, we are coming close to the moment when all that we possess will be lost, and according to the Scriptures, our wealth is worth nothing in the day of God’s wrath.

Houses and lands will be of no use to the saints in the time of trouble, for they will then have to flee before infuriated mobs, and at that time their possessions cannot be disposed of to advance the cause of present truth. I was shown that it is the will of God that the saints should cut loose from every encumbrance before the time of trouble comes, and make a covenant with God through sacrifice. If they have their property on the altar and earnestly inquire of God for duty, He will teach them when to dispose of these things. Then they will be free in the time of trouble and have no clogs to weigh them down. {EW 56.3} Read the rest of this entry

Pain with Hope or Hopeless Pain

By John Thiel, mp3

Pain with hope, or hopeless pain, which one will you choose? As sinners, you and I are destined for redemption. Every inhabitant on this planet must pass from death unto life and there is not one person who must not pass from death unto life.

For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And [that] he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15

From Defeat to Victory

By John Thiel

The night is dark and I am far from home. Is that true?  Is the night dark? We live according to the Word of God in a time of gross darkness. The danger for us is that we may not know it, but because we have living truth that has been given us through the three angels’ messages we become more conscious of it. So indeed, you and I, who dwell under the three angels’ messages are aware of the fact that we must be of the number that are recorded in Revelation.

Revelation 14:1  And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty [and] four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. 2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: 3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred [and] forty [and] four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. 4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, [being] the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

This speaks of the 144,000. As it states in verses 4 and 5, they are not defiled with women for they are virgins. This is speaking in reference to the churches that they are not defiled  by the false teachings of the different churches. We are either part of that company under this message or we are lost. As we know this, have you ever read verse 5 with a terrible foreboding wanting to go over you? I must be among this number and this number are without fault and there is no guile in their mouth. Have you discovered faults in your life and even guile? I must be among this number or be lost. Read the rest of this entry
