9. The Exercise of Repentance
By John Thiel, Seeking to Please God Series, mp3, pdf
Scripture reading: Psalm 51:16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give [it]: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
We have been occupied in contemplation of the solemn, serious time in which we dwell, the day of judgement, a day of serious heart searching, a time in which God has commissioned us to do just that, to search our hearts, to examine closely, to afflict our souls when we see where we are not in tune with the Lord. As we have been researching this and searching our hearts in the light of God’s word, we have covered some overwhelming things where we could see, This is where I have not been perfect. Salvation Unto Obedience
Scripture reading: Psalm 119:1 Blessed [are] the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. 2 Blessed [are] they that keep his testimonies, [and that] seek him with the whole heart. 3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
Jesus says, Come to Me, and I will give you rest. Week by week we gather together to drink from the fountain the water of life. This is the invitation of the Bible to us. This is why we gather, so that we might not only drink at home, but drink from where the Lord has said we should be – we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. We are to drink of His word together, and He will be there to bless in His presence with us. Read the rest of this entry
10. Affectionate Sabbath Keeping
By John Thiel, Godly Affections That Motivate Series, mp3
Scripture reading: Isaiah 63:7 I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, [and] the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses. … 9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
The Sabbath is part of the Ten Commandments and becaus it is, it is often looked upon as a legal expectation and people fall into the danger of coming to the Sabbath as to something which is expected of them and they see it as a bit of a burden. So many Seventh-day Adventists people who have grown up in Adventism, look forward to the end of the Sabbath so that they can do what they want and what they like.
This has been a burden in my heart over the years because I was myself brought up in the Seventh-day Adventist church. I grew up with Sabbath keeping and I saw this sad experience among Adventists as I grew up among them. When the Sabbath came to its end and Saturday night came, it was just about a celebration that Sabbath was over; they could now go out and enjoy themselves. But for me Sabbath became an ever-developing and deeper joy and I wondered what the problem was. Read the rest of this entry
God’s Name: I AM
By John Thiel, mp3
Scripture reading: John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am, ye shall die in your sins.
If we believe not that Jesus is I AM, we will die in our sins.
We cannot by searching find out God. But He has revealed Himself in the character of Christ, who is the brightness of the Father’s glory, and the express image of His person. If we desire a knowledge of God, we must be Christlike. . . . {TDG 272.2} Read the rest of this entry
A Personal Refuge for the Meek
By Victor Bireaud, mp3
Scripture Reading: Psalm 46:1 God [is] our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Welcome all loved and blessed, welcome sweet scenes of rest, welcome my Saviour’s breast. Jesus is mine!
“Welcome o loved and blessed, welcome sweet scenes of rest, welcome my saviours breast, Jesus is mine!”
Isn’t this a beautiful introduction to our message as we are facing the difficulties of the last days and preparing to enter into the sweet scenes of rest of the eternal abode? It really makes my heart abound with joy to think of this statement; Jesus is mine. Read the rest of this entry
Christ and the Sin in His Body
Man was created in the image of God. He was given powers of intellect which was just below the angels. They were beautiful; they were perfect in their symmetry. Everywhere they looked, they thought of God and saw God’s words and as they thought of God, they grew like God. Hence they reflected His image. We know they were clothed in garments of light. However there came one day a serpent. We all know the story well. We read of the consequence and we find the condition of man. There are many that deny such realities but it is all here in black and white:
A Fallen Condition
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; Read the rest of this entry
The Faith Once Delivered to the Saints
By John Thiel
Malachi 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard [it], and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
3:17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
3:18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not. Read the rest of this entry
9. Was the Atonement Completed at the Cross?
By John Thiel, The Sanctuary Series, study 9
The sanctuary relates to our salvation. We have studied the meaning of the different furniture. The courtyard of the sanctuary had the altar of sacrifice which was where the animal was slain and represented the sacrifice of Jesus when He died on the cross as our sins slew Him. He was the lamb that was sacrificed. Read the rest of this entry
