Trusting God Entirely

By John Thiel, mp3

Psalm 46:1 God [is] our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 [Though] the waters thereof roar [and] be troubled, [though] the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I [am] God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11 The LORD of hosts [is] with us; the God of Jacob [is] our refuge.

I have experienced over the years that fear, stress, anxiety is even in the ranks of people who are Christians. They shouldn’t have that. We should have such an appreciation of the God who loves us that there is nothing that spoils our peace.

Leaning on the Arm of Flesh

By John Thiel, mp3

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 52:8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion. Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. 10The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Mothers and Fathers in Israel

By John Thiel, mp3

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where [is] the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein].

Deuteronomy 32:7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will show thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.

We are to enquire about the old paths and to walk in them. Who are we to ask? Our fathers and the elders to understand from them what those old paths are.

Leviticus 19:32 Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I [am] the LORD.

The Lord desires His servants today to preach the old gospel doctrine, sorrow for sin, repentance, and confession. We want old-fashioned sermons, old-fashioned customs, old-fashioned fathers and mothers in Israel. The sinner must be labored for, perseveringly, earnestly, wisely, until he shall see that he is a transgressor of God’s law, and shall exercise repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. –Undated Manuscript 111. {Ev 179.5} Read the rest of this entry

The Arm of Flesh Versus the Arm of the Lord

By John Thiel, mp3

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

We desire to worship God in spirit and in truth is to seek and appreciate the arm of the Lord.

Isaiah 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.  Read the rest of this entry

Our Security in Trust

By John Thiel

I will trust in God but never in any man or human counsel. These words have often come to me bandied about and applied and I often wondered where these thoughts have come from. I will trust in God but I will never trust any man or any decisions arising from human counsel. Where do they come from?

Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

Cursed is the man that trusteth in man. I will trust no man!

Micah 7:5 Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.

In His mercy and faithfulness God often permits those in whom we place confidence to fail us, in order that we may learn the folly of trusting in man and making flesh our arm. Let us trust fully, humbly, unselfishly in God. He knows the sorrows that we feel to the depths of our being, but which we cannot express. When all things seem dark and unexplainable, remember the words of Christ, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. John 13:7. {MH 486.7} Read the rest of this entry

I Have Set Thee A Watchman

By John Thiel, mp3

Psalm 95:6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. 7 For he [is] our God; and we [are] the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, [and] as [in] the day of temptation in the wilderness:

These are a strange combination of words. It is God that made us, not we ourselves. Bow down and kneel for he is our God. Do you like that? Do you like this humbling principle portrayed here? Is it not like the thought that they are sheep?  Dumb sheep? Followers? There are some people would rather be a goat. They are far more intelligent. Goats have character a frisky fun loving character. They are very self reliant and people like that thought. God knows the dependant condition of his created beings and especially sinful as they are.t Read the rest of this entry
