The Godhead and the Holy Spirit Part 1

By Tony Rykers

Today there is a tremendous amount of discussion and conjecture about who or what the Holy Spirit is. As Seventh-day Adventists we believe in the three persons of the Godhead, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit or as Ellen White says:

Three living persons of the heavenly trio; {Ev 615.1}

In Heavenly Places in Christ Jesus

The Creation of the World

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Who created the heaven and the earth? God created the heavens and the earth.

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

In the beginning we read that God created the heavens and the earth and all that was there in and here we read that it was the Spirit of God that made man: Read the rest of this entry

The Third Person of the Godhead

By Peter D. Lausevic, Audio: mp3

In our last few studies we have looked at the Godhead, the Father and especially at Jesus and how he is the eternal God and the sacrifice he made for mankind. In this study we want to look at the Holy Spirit and about him being the third person of the Godhead and what he is.

I am instructed to say, The sentiments of those who are searching for advanced scientific ideas are not to be trusted. Such representations as the following are made: “The Father is as the light invisible: the Son is as the light embodied; the Spirit is the light shed abroad.” “The Father is like the dew, invisible vapor; the Son is like the dew gathered in beauteous form; the Spirit is like the dew fallen to the seat of life.” Another representation: “The Father is like the invisible vapor; the Son is like the leaden cloud; the Spirit is rain fallen and working in refreshing power.”  {Ev 614.1} Read the rest of this entry

6. The Priesthood of the Three Sanctuaries

We have been studying the three sanctuaries – the Hebrew sanctuary which was the tent that was set up, the temple that Solomon built, the heavenly sanctuary and the body temple sanctuary. Read the rest of this entry

7. The Holy Spirit

By John Thiel, Audio: The Holy Spirit

There are three dignitaries of heaven. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit who have pledged themselves to offer every facility in our recovery of spiritual salvation.  The first person of the Godhead pledged himself as a ‘Father’ that we might be his sons and daughters.  The second person of the Godhead the Word became ‘begotten’ of the Father as a Son that we might be coheirs with him. The third person of the Godhead the Holy Spirit, pledged himself the facility of ‘Another Comforter’.  In the following study we will identify why Jesus said that it was expedient for him to go away and for the Holy Spirit to come in his place as another comforter.  To enlarge in our minds that the Holy Spirit is the third intelligent, creative person of the Godhead, we will study his qualities relevant to our human needs as they are revealed through the scriptures. The Holy Spirit our comforter is bestowed with the unique and intimate ability of imparting the deep knowledge of God and of Jesus into the very core of man.  He has pledged himself the facility of a comforter for our benefit that through this imparted knowledge we might have eternal life. 6. God the Son

By John Thiel, Audio: God the Son

The first person of the Godhead became the facility of a Father to us in His effort to reach and save humanity. We now look at the facility that the second person of the Godhead provided for us when He took on the role of the Son. The Word of God laid aside all His glory and divinity and made Himself of no reputation to become begotten as a babe in Bethlehem.  This is God’s grace and mercy toward us and the wonderful facility that the Word of God pledged Himself for humanity.  We will come to realise that it was at an infinite cost and painful process that the Word of God became restricted to a seed in a woman’s womb, to grow up experiencing childhood, adolescence and manhood in the embodiment of sinful flesh.

During His life here on earth Jesus the Son was tempted in every respect that we are tempted but He overcame that He might be our example, the author and finisher of our salvation.  Through obedience He demonstrated his unwavering love to God, even to the death of the cross.  Through His sufferings He became perfected not only to be our sin bearer, but to demonstrate that sin in sinful human flesh can be overcome through our continual combined effort with the Godhead and the facilities promised to us IF we will come out from among them, be ye separate, and touch not the unclean thing. The life and death of Jesus Christ is the preaching of the everlasting gospel and God’s abounding grace toward us. 3. God the Father

By John Thiel, Audio: God the Father

The angels are the messengers of God that communicate to humanity.  Humanity then takes the role of these messengers and proclaims the word of God to us in the three angel’s messages. Our second study was the revelation of the God whom the first angel’s message proclaims to us that we should worship.

Revelation 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Read the rest of this entry
