Are You Narrow-Minded?

By John Thiel

What does it mean to totally give over to God and His way?We have touched on this in the past but we need to be reminded of it frequently. The question is – what really is Gods way when we completely surrender ourselves to Him? Read the rest of this entry

Walking In the Light

By John Thiel

It is a great comfort to the soul in darkness and fear that there is given intelligent and comforting light. There is a statement that shows us where light is found when we travel along.

2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost. Are You Overwhelmed with Sin?

By John Thiel

Many times when we reflect on a thus saith the Lord, we associate it with a command or direction in life we are to follow and we infrequently see it as follows in this study.

Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].

Self is Always Contorted by Sin

Self is totally contorted by sin. We always find reasons to criticise other people. Sin has destroyed the perfect balance. As we look at some of these realities, we become reactive. Self is always reactive to being slighted and self-justification and defaming others noting their shorting comings. Even in the religious world, we fall into this as Paul described it that he was a great religious man. As we look at those ugly things, it leaves an unpleasant sense. Self is totally contorted by sin. Read the rest of this entry

The Longing of Your Heart

Jesus tells us of things that receive blessings. One of those things is recorded in Matthew 5.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed [are] they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Do we hunger and thirst after righteousness? To be hungry you have to be empty. What do children do when they are hungry? Cry. Blessed are they which do hunger. It’s a good position to be in, to be in need; hungering and thirsting after righteousness. David longed and was hungry and thirsted after righteousness.

Psalm 107:3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. 4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. 5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses. 7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 8 Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. Did Jesus Need to Study the Bible?

We need to look to Jesus in order to know how to exercise faith.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

For us to be Christians we need to live by the faith of Jesus.  That requires us looking at him in order to see how it is that he went through his life.  Jesus made a statement as his mission. His whole purpose of living was this.

John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.  Read the rest of this entry

The Exhaustless Word of God

You can’t exhaust the word of God. There’s a temptation for us to not to meditate on things long enough, because we think that the Bible is exhaustible. Do you find fresh thoughts on texts?

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Read the rest of this entry

Make No Provision for the Flesh

The only way we can be like Jesus is if we behold him.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the Spirit of the Lord.

By looking and letting our minds eye absorb Jesus Christ, we would be changed from glory to glory. We can’t look at Jesus unless we walk with Him. Does Jesus stand still? The rich young ruler had an opportunity presented before him. Read the rest of this entry

How Does the Fourth Angel Lighten the World?

Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

This is the fourth angel the angel to lighten the world. How does this angel light the world? By the loud cry of the three angels’ messages. Adventists have been waiting for the loud cry to happen. We want to consider this lightening of the earth with its glory. Moses asked God to show him His glory. He expressed character traits to Moses. When the earth is lightened with His glory, it’s not the dazzling brightness like that of Hollywood, it’s the glory which is character. The character of God’s people is to lighten up the world. Hearing God’s Voice

By John Thiel

We are to recognise God’s voice speaking to us.

Isaiah 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This [is] the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

We have a very distinct enunciation of the possibility of God’s children to be guided by hearing something, someone speaking to us so that we are in a position of relationship beyond merely being with the Word of God in our personal research but to actually go into something deeper than what the Bible is saying. Many Christians are reading the Bible as a guide book which what we should do, but they still hold the book and themselves in a position of guiding their own lives by reading what they choose to read. Many read the Bible but they are not in the truth so something more is needed. God will personally walk and communicate with us so we can find our way. We are to find an assurance within ourselves that I’m communicating and how to discern that. We are to remind ourselves how the Lord has led us. Read the rest of this entry

Where Angels Fear to Tread

By John Thiel

Jesus leads us individually. He gives us heavenly comfort in that appreciation. We may walk with him in a precious intimacy that is unique to our personal self.

The Head of Every Woman

1 Corinthians 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover [his] head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on [her] head because of the angels.

As the margin reads, a covering signifying that she is under the power of her husband because of the angels. What have the angels to do with that? It is so the ministering angels will have evidence.

…so that the ministering angels will have evidence that the truth has wrought a change in the life, purifying the soul and refining the tastes. Those who, after receiving the truth, make no change in word or deportment, in dress or surroundings, are living to themselves, not to Christ. They have not been created anew in Christ Jesus, unto purification and holiness. . . . {AH 21.4} Read the rest of this entry

Refuge for the Sinner Unawares

By John Thiel

What is the difference between unwitting or deliberate sinfulness relative to our salvation? We are focusing on an element of the city of refuge. The church is the city of refuge for God’s people and we as members in the church are to understand that souls that come into the church find a refuge there indeed, a refuge from condemnation.

Numbers 35:15 These six cities shall be a refuge, [both] for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither. Read the rest of this entry

When God Doesn’t Answer Prayer

By John Thiel

Have you ever prayed for something earnestly and it doesn’t happen? How do you feel? Perhaps you have prayed for someone who is sick and you prayed in the name of Jesus and you really pleaded but instead of getting better they get worse and then they died. How did you feel? Apostle Paul had an experience like this. He had a thorn in his flesh that God did not take away.

2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Read the rest of this entry

Waiting and Watching

By John Thiel

Matthew 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite [his] fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;  50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for [him], and in an hour that he is not aware of,  51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint [him] his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Am I going to be alive when Jesus comes?

The day is at hand. For the lessons to be learned, the work to be done, the transformation of character to be effected, the time remaining is but too brief a span. {Ed 184.2}

God’s Workshop

By John Thiel

We have a wonderful comfort that although we are rough stones of the quarry, we have been taken inside God’s workshop. The beauty that is deep inside of every single one us is something worthy of Jesus to use for his glory. The rough stones look rough on the outside but inside there is a gem. That particular reality is expressed that there is something worthy put there that God wants to polish and purify. Read the rest of this entry
