Crossing the Anti-Typical Jordan
By John Thiel, Hebrew Wilderness Wanderings Conference, Epilogue, mp3
As we were travelling with the children of Israel in this series we were most startled when we realised what it really meant to cross the river Jordan and who was it that crosses the river Jordan in reality. Who makes it thorough the terrible surging floods of the destructive forces about us? When we went into the type there were a few questions. What we are studying in the story of the Hebrews is not just for the sake of a story it is specifically identified.
1 Corinthians 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
As you go through the story of the children of Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land it was written for a specific reason. We tell our children the bible stories and the children grow up and it has been reported by those who have had children’s bible stories all the way along that they are just stories and the people haven’t learnt that they are actually moral issues revealed in a story. These things really did happen but God conducted them for the purpose of the church upon whom the ends of the world have come. If we are going to take that seriously we will therefore do what we have done during this series and go carefully into every little lesson that can be learnt so that we may be aware. It’s exactly as the Hebrew temple and the Hebrew story gives us the complete description of the gospel and the gospel church. Read the rest of this entry
4. On the Borders, But Still Unready
By John Thiel, Hebrew Wilderness Wanderings Conference, Study 4, mp3
Are you a weary pilgrim? Have you been harassed by severe negativities in your life? Are you weary? You want Jesus to come and you are trudging along, how far is it yet to go? This is something to cheer us along the way.
How sweet are the tidings that greet the pilgrim’s ear, As he wanders in exile from home! Soon, soon will the Savior in glory appear, And soon will the kingdom come.
We are on the borders already. It must have been what the Hebrews felt as they travelled and when they stayed for a year at Mount Sinai. They got close to the border. The Lord was intending that they should go in. It was not God’s idea that they should send ten spies in there, it was their idea. They thought they had better go and check the land out. The twelve spies came back and gave a report. We are to take an account on the Hebrew wilderness wanderings and reflect on these experiences that have affected our lives. Think back on the previous studies.
2. True Sabbath Keeping
By John Thiel, Hebrew Wilderness Wanderings Conference, Study 2, mp3
Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it [is] a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that [ye] may know that I [am] the LORD that doth sanctify you. 14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it [is] holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth [any] work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
The children of Israel left Egypt a place where they were captives. It says they were there for 430 odd years. How many years were they in captivity? It wasn’t 400 years of captivity, it was when the next Pharoah came along and inflicted them. Maybe 350 years? Before that time where were the Israelites living? In Egypt. They were free but they were living in Egypt. What was the consequence of Abraham’s seed? The man of Gods offspring living in Egypt. What happened to the children of Israel while they were there in Egypt? Ezekiel was to speak to the Hebrews;
Ezekiel 20:5 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I [am] the LORD your God; 6 In the day [that] I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the glory of all lands: 7 Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God. 3. The Rock That Followed Them
By John Thiel, Hebrew Wilderness Wanderings Conference, Study 3, mp3
1 Corinthians 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5. Apostasy on the Borders
By John Thiel, Hebrew Wilderness Wanderings Conference, Study 5, mp3
We have travelled with the children of Israel from Egypt in this series ‘Hebrew Wilderness Wanderings,. We have learnt many lessons as they came through the Red Sea to Mount Sinai and then through to the borders of the Promised Land and while God wanted them to move straight in there, their unbelief prevented them. So they had to return to the wilderness for forty years wandering back and forth aimlessly. Now at last after the forty years and all those who came out of Egypt except for Joshua and Caleb, they were at least commanded to go forwarded.
They travelled on the east side of the Jordan and there was a beautiful green valley there but before they even got there, they had to travel through country which was inhabited. In Numbers 21:21-35 there is a record of how God had directed them to send a message to the king of the Amorites – ‘Let us come through your country but we will not touch your property, we will only stay on the king’s highway.’ The king came back with an army to destroy them. As they came the Israelites smote them with the edge of the sword and slaughtered the whole army of the Amorites. They killed the king and gained all of the cities of the Amorites. Many of the Israelites conquered these places and found homes and cities of the Amorites. Then they continued and another king, the king of Bashan came against them. Again the Lord said to them don’t be afraid of him, you will conquer him. Again victory, powerful victory. They were slaughtered and were completely annihilated and again another territory for the Israelites to dwell in. There they were flushed with victories and were confident, hooray we are coming into the Promised Land. They were so encouraged by this victorious experience. Read the rest of this entry
6. Crossing the Jordan
By John Thiel, Hebrew Wilderness Wanderings Conference, Study 6, mp3
We in the Laodicean period are to suffer as Jesus suffered and to follow through what he followed through. We wish to explore something that is ahead which we see in this time.
Amos 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end [is] it for you? the day of the LORD [is] darkness, and not light. 19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20 [Shall] not the day of the LORD [be] darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
We want to learn something that is ahead which we see in the type. We have followed the Hebrew wilderness wanderings from Egypt right through to the borders. Many of the types, figures and analogies that we have gained have thrilled our mind as we have covered multitudes of these figures, symbols and types. As we take these for our journey to the Promised Land, we have not mentioned and explored all the lessons yet but our mind has been triggered to go home and appreciate that this needs to be our study and to learn every lesson to be gained from the Hebrew wilderness wanderings. It is fitting to conclude with the very last item of their journey. They were at the borders.
Some already had found their homes in the homes of the Amorites which they had conquered but the last leg of their journey was still there at the river Jordan. This is a type for us that is yet in the future. As we launch out from this conference into the New Year 2010. What do we expect in the future? The heavenly type, crossing into the heavenly Canaan. 1. The Ends of the World
By John Thiel, Hebrew Wilderness Wanderings Conference, Study 1, mp3
1 Corinthians 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
Welcome ye upon whom the end of the world has come. Is this the end of the world? Today the church is crying as it has cried for centuries. The cry of Gods church for centuries has been the words of John.
Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Read the rest of this entry
