9. The Exercise of Repentance
By John Thiel, Seeking to Please God Series, mp3, pdf
Scripture reading: Psalm 51:16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give [it]: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
We have been occupied in contemplation of the solemn, serious time in which we dwell, the day of judgement, a day of serious heart searching, a time in which God has commissioned us to do just that, to search our hearts, to examine closely, to afflict our souls when we see where we are not in tune with the Lord. As we have been researching this and searching our hearts in the light of God’s word, we have covered some overwhelming things where we could see, This is where I have not been perfect. The Faith of Jesus under Condemnation
By John Thiel, mp3
Scripture reading: Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. 4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
This hymn carries with it a certain trembling note:
I watch to shun the miry way,
And staunch the springs of guilty thought;
But, watch and struggle as I may,
Pure I am not, pure I am not.
5. The Delusion of “The Church Will Go Through”
By John Thiel, Removing Delusions and Fallacies Series, mp3
Scripture reading: Zephaniah 3:12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. 13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make [them] afraid.
When errors come into our ranks, we are not to enter into controversy over them. We are to present the message of reproof and then lead the minds of the people away from fanciful, erroneous ideas, presenting the truth in contrast with error. {20MR 307.3}
Let those who have been deluded give up all their fallacies. The love of Jesus will not endure such rivals. {20MR 307.5} Read the rest of this entry
12. Basking in Godly Affections
By John Thiel, Godly Affections That Motivate Series, mp3
Scripture reading: Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
We want to appreciate the releases that come to us when we take time out and bask and keep that beautiful sense that is gained by resting in the affections of the Lord with us when we have to meet the stresses and responsibilities of Christianity and life. The lot of the true Christian in following Christ carries an interesting burden, which needs to be released all the time.
1 Peter 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Read the rest of this entry
The Power of Compassion
By John Thiel, mp3
Scripture reading: 1 Peter 3:8 Finally, [be ye] all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, [be] pitiful, [be] courteous: 9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
We are called upon to be a light where we are, in the corner where we are, even in the church. There is a harmony that exists between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and He has created intelligent beings who are to be infused with that same harmony. We realise that, as earthlings, we are to be prepared to enter into that harmony that the Godhead and the angels have; but to enter there we need to come into the harmony that exists there. We are part of the three angels’ messages. What does this mean in regards to harmony? Read the rest of this entry
Healing of the Mind
By John Thiel, mp3
Scripture reading: Psalm 147:1 Praise ye the LORD: for [it is] good to sing praises unto our God; for [it is] pleasant; [and] praise is comely. 2 The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. 3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
There is a call for praising God. It is good to sing praises unto our God. Why? Because He gathers the outcasts of Israel. Don’t we feel that way? He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. We want to understand what God is prepared to do for the outcasts of Israel. Small in number that we may find ourselves in as outcasts, we may still have precious answers from the Lord to bind up our wounds and heal our minds. The description of the time in which we live is often not taken note of. Jesus describes it: Read the rest of this entry
Contrition Without Anxiety
By John Thiel, mp3
Scripture reading: Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Do we know the reality of the end of fear and doubt? Are we resting? Do we trust God?
Do you suffer anxiety? What is anxiety? What is the source of anxiety? It is a feeling that comes over us and wants to predominate within us:
1. When we are found out that we have done wrong; we feel anxious. It is a feeling. It is something that constricts your sense of freedom; it crowds you inwardly. Another source of anxiety is
2. When I am unable to satisfy the expectations that are laid upon me; I start to feel anxious because I can’t meet up with what is expected of me. Yet another source of anxiety is
3. Fear of the unknown. If I see something in front of me and I don’t know where this is going to end up, I am afraid of the unknown consequences maybe of some of the things that I have done. I feel anxious. There is another source of anxiety which is
4. When those whom I dearly love have turned away and there is a break-down of relationships. There is anxiety that comes from that as well. Read the rest of this entry
A Diligent Walk with God
By John Thiel
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
I cannot, dare not walk alone. Read the rest of this entry
9. Climbing Jacob’s Ladder
By John Thiel, The Power of the Cross Conference, Study 9, mp3
We have been contemplating the power of the cross.
Nathaniel was contemplating what he had experienced at the baptism of Jesus and by all the baptisms of John the Baptist.
John 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
2. The Weakness of Christ the Man
By John Thiel, The Power of the Cross Conference, Study 2, mp3
The power of God can actually operate through Jesus Christ. You cannot appreciate the power of God unless you realise your weakness and your smallness. In our weakness and depravity which is the law of sin in my members, the moment that we want to do what is right because our mind has been affected by the purity of God and His truth and His law, we immediately discover there is a law in our members that fights against the law and the expectations of God.
According to the words of Apostle Paul, he says there is a law in my members that works contrary to the law of my mind. O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death, from this power? We read that there is a way by which we can actually conquer the weakness of our sinful flesh.
The body is the only medium through which the mind and the soul are developed for the upbuilding of character. Hence it is that the adversary of souls directs his temptations to the enfeebling and degrading of the physical powers. His success here means the surrender to evil of the whole being. The tendencies of our physical nature, unless under the dominion of a higher power, will surely work ruin and death. {MH 130.1}
