Why Ellen White said do not make dress and diet a test and what she really meant

Should Meat Eating Be a Test of Fellowship?

Many Seventh-day Adventists aren’t aware that Ellen White wrote a letter to A G Daniels urging him to circulate it for all to sign a pledge to dispense with meat eating.  He refused to circulate the letter so Ellen White then had to make the statement, we can’t make meat eating a test because the GC leadership were still eating it so we can’t enforce it on the people.  Isaiah 22:12-14 states clearly that eating clean meat in the day of atonement is a sin that God won’t purge;

The Characteristics of the 144,000 and the 144 Facets of a Diamond

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

As a young Christian walking in the light of truth finally, I look at the scriptures and I look at them continually and there are many scriptures I pass over with little understanding. There are many realities I do not see until I implore the Lord to guide me into all the truth. We all have this experience and the fact is there are certain phrases in the Bible that would seem not right. As we see from 2 Timothy all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is necessary for instruction. Luke 19 describes the scene a few days before the Passover. It describes the multitudes on the road. There would have been millions of people on the roads all going to one place, Jerusalem. There were at least two realities of which people were going there for and one was that some people want to crown their Lord and saviour Jesus and go from the Roman bondage they were under. It was expected that he was going to be crowned king. We look at some of the people that were on the road.

Luke 19:38 Saying, Blessed [be] the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. 40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

I don’t think i would be rebuked if I had said to you that I have looked at that verse many times and seen the stones would cry out? I thought it was funny to think that a stone would cry out. From 2 Timothy We see there are no fill in gaps, every word of every phrase of every paragraph is given for a specific reason. If the stones would cry out, what would they say? How would they say it? Would it be rattling’s and indistinct noises that you would expect from stones? Would it be an audible reality that we would hear? Maybe it wouldn’t be words or something else. Maybe a reflection of this stone that we would look at it and see something. What will the stones say? This is our study. In looking at the characteristics of the 144,000 I’m aware of my vocation in life. That was to know the reality of precious things, the amalgamation of metals, the use of stones and all things we would find in the jewellery area. In looking at that, I would find there is a stone there that would bring out this reality.

Introduction to Revelation

By John Thiel

We are looking at the book of Revelation from the perspective of Christ. There are many prophetic pictures.

Isaiah 29:11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which [men] deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it [is] sealed: 12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned. 13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near [me] with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: 14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, [even] a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise [men] shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent [men] shall be hid. 15 Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

Prophetic visions are sealed and no one can understand them. Those that are learned, say no they can’t. This is not something God has inspired. The book of Revelation has a lack of deep appreciation in today’s churches.

Revelation 6:7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. 8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. Read the rest of this entry

Modern Israel

By John Thiel

There is a constant debate among believers of the Seventh-day Adventist faith regarding the mainstream organisation. By some it is said that we must not call the Seventh-day Adventist church Babylon. They quote Spirit of Prophecy statements applicable to the organisation in the time of Ellen White’s membership in it. Yet others assert that the organisation today has fallen and therefore can be called Babylon. It is the purpose of this article to research God’s word and find God’s judgement on the matter. Does He ever inspire His penmen and women to coin the Seventh-day Adventist organisation by the term Babylon when He sends messages in regards to its moral condition? The term applied to the Seventh-day Adventist organisation in Sister White’s time can be found among many references. Read the rest of this entry

The Original Attitude Toward the Lord’s Supper

The Signs of the Times, August 6, 1885

It has been remarked that it is quite uniformly believed that baptism is an initiatory rite. It is therefore not a church ordinance in the same sense the Lord’s Supper is a church ordinance.  The supper is for those only who are fully church members, and it is to be celebrated repeatedly; of this it is said: “As often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come” (1 Corinthians 11:26).  Read the rest of this entry

The Sin Against the Holy Spirit

God will forgive all sin – even the most vile and gravest of sins – but there is one sin that God will not and cannot forgive, and that is the sin against the Holy Spirit – what is called the Unforgivable Sin. We need to know what that sin is, and whether we have yet committed that sin or not. Read the rest of this entry

Was Christ Tempted from Within?

Hebrews 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. The Blue Commandments

By Pastor Morris – The Sanctuary

“The Bible tells us the spiritual meaning of the colour blue:

Numbers 15:38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: 40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. God Has a Secondary Will

God has a perfect will, but there is a secondary will. It is a will that comes to deal with the apprentice who thinks he’s smarter than his master. God’s perfect will was that there was no divorce. God’s secondary will was that they could divorce because of the hardness of their heart. Read the rest of this entry

The Ark of the Covenant

The Ark

The disappointment of 1844 was a bitter experience. The error led them back to study to ascertain the truth of the matter. See Great Controversy page 432.

The passing of the time in 1844 was followed by a period of great trial to those who still held the advent faith. Their only relief, so far as ascertaining their true position was concerned, was the light which directed their minds to the sanctuary above. Some renounced their faith in their former reckoning of the prophetic periods and ascribed to human or satanic agencies the powerful influence of the Holy Spirit which had attended the advent movement. Another class firmly held that the Lord had led them in their past experience; and as they waited and watched and prayed to know the will of God they saw that their great High Priest had entered upon another work of ministration, and, following Him by faith, they were led to see also the closing work of the church. They had a clearer understanding of the first and second angels’ messages, and were prepared to receive and give to the world the solemn warning of the third angel of Revelation 14. {GC 431.3} Read the rest of this entry

Another Angel and 1888

In the Adventist realm we are always futurising everything, “when the latter rain shall come” is often said, but it is already come. It is also said “when the world will be lit with the glory”. But it began and has been shining since 1888. Are you taking advantage of the light that streams from 1888 in the proclamation of the nature of Christ? Do we take advantage to become stable Christians? If we reject these warnings, the warnings that we will get will be too late. When they saw their loved ones, their family and friends all slain and the blood rushing then they saw that the glory is departed and it was too late.

The Sabbath in the New Testament

What day did Jesus rise from the dead? The first day of the week, which is on Sunday.

Mark 16:9 Now when [Jesus] was risen early the first [day] of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

What reason do Christians give for keeping Sunday holy? They say they keep Sunday holy because it is the day of the resurrection of Jesus.

“Jews dedicate the seventh, or Sabbath, day to recalling the divine basis of life. Christians follow a similar seven-day cycle but give special prestige to Sunday honouring the day of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which, according to the Christian scriptures, occurred on the first day of the week.” Microsoft Encarta Encyclopaedia 2000

The Catholic church says;

“We celebrate Sunday because of the venerable resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and we do so not only at Easter but also at each turning of the week”. Read the rest of this entry

God and the Imagination

By John Thiel

We want to know how to walk with God. It’s lovely to hear people talking about God. It raises a note of romance in some people’s minds. You go through experiences and you think that it can’t be the Lord if it wasn’t romantic. Whether happy or unhappy experiences, it doesn’t need to be devastating if not happy. We want to know how this is to take place. Why did God want the Hebrews to build him a sanctuary? To dwell among them. What a thought that God wants to dwell with us.

Exodus 25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. Read the rest of this entry

The Path of the Cross

By John Thiel

Jesus made a point of contact with us at our deep sense of our unworthiness of our sin. When sin has become clear to us and we feel full of loathsomeness about ourselves, there Jesus met us at the cross. From the point in time where that has made its impact on our consciousness and life, we read that Apostle Paul was in that position as well.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

He is now in a position where the death of Jesus has been his in his own life. Now that has happened, the resurrection of Jesus has taken place. It is no longer I that lives, but Christ lives in me. Life continues. It is the life of Jesus in me although I am living in the flesh I am living by the faith of the son of God. Read the rest of this entry

How to Do Missionary Work

By John Thiel

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
