Dealing With Church Difficulties

0809134

By John Thiel

We are going to be shepherds of the flock, we will meet with church difficulties inadvertently. You can’t run away from it and they come because of two reasons. From what source do church difficulties arise?

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.

If you are born again, do you still have a natural man? That’s the battle between the spirit and the flesh. In the church we have people who have the natural man and it is from this source that church difficulties can come. The danger exists because of our natural man may momentarily turn away from our focus on Jesus.

The sanctification of the soul is accomplished through steadfastly beholding Him [Christ] by faith as the only-begotten Son of God, full of grace and truth. The power of truth is to transform heart and character. Its effect is not like a dash of color here and there upon the canvas; the whole character is to be transformed, the image of Christ is to be revealed in words and actions. A new nature is imparted. Man is renewed after the image of Christ in righteousness and true holiness. . . . The grace of Christ is essential every day, every hour. Unless it is with us continually, the inconsistencies of the natural heart will appear and the life will present a divided service. {6BC 1117.15} Read the rest of this entry

Administering Church Stewardship

Money is always one of those subjects which is looked upon with a business mind where people think the church is just making money of us but it is something much loftier than that. When the early church was established, where did their financial situations come into consideration? Apostle Peter was preaching under the power of the Holy Spirit and the impact of that took place. Pastoring the Flock

By John Thiel

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 52:8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion. Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. 10The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Many times I have sung this hymn and it caused me a few challenges of thought:

“I am trusting Thee Lord Jesus, trusting only thee” Read the rest of this entry

Administering Church Membership

“Christ for the world we sing,
The world to Christ we bring, with joyful song;
The newborn souls, whose days, reclaimed from error’s ways,
Inspired with hope and praise, to Christ belong.”

By John Thiel

Once we have brought souls in, they have been found, they have been won and now we want to keep them. They have been reclaimed from errors ways and we are now looking at the subject of administering church membership. We study with them to bring them to conversion and new birth and then they become church members. We are to now administer church membership. What is church membership? Is it not becoming part of the body of Christ? In our labour of souls we have brought them to the point if they have really been baptised, if self has died and they have risen as new born people, through the studies we have brought them through, they now should have found a living experience through Jesus. The question is now, how to go on from here? They have been brought to an understanding and process of Bible studies, is there anything more to gain? Read the rest of this entry

Methods to Find Interested Souls

20130924-074627.jpg

By John Thiel

There are four main points of our study. We must have something in order to gain souls and now we are going to consider how to find souls, how to win souls and how to keep them. We must understand the time in which we are living in. It is the time of the closing of the world’s history. The work of finding interested souls has been taking place over a long period of time. Now the most pressing work is to glean. We’ve been living in the time of the harvest for a long time. The harvest has been reaped but at the end of the harvest they were to glean the last grains of wheat. Not a grain was lost. We have the work of gleaning the last few people that will respond to God’s message. When we discover how sinful we are, we will have compassion on others. Read the rest of this entry

Developing Interested Souls for Baptism

By John Thiel

This aspect of is now to develop the interested souls for baptism. We have learnt how to arouse their interest and that is to do with how to find them. Now that you found them, once you have captivated an interest, you then want to win them to a final decision. If you have captivated an interest they will say to you, I want more information, I want Bible study. When you have them at that position, now you have a prospective candidate for baptism. When a person asks for Bible studies, you have a positive candidate. Why do I say this? Bible study produces something.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. Read the rest of this entry

Addressing the Balance of Truth

By John Thiel

As God’s servants in positions of trust we are responsible for keeping the balance of truth within the body of Christ. Jesus announced the characteristics of His disciples in reference to truth.

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

He’s talking to His followers and He said do you want to be my disciples? Then you must continue in the word. If you will continue in the word then you shall know the truth and then you will be set free. The skill of a minister in the word is most essential otherwise he will present his own thoughts. The skill is simply conveyed in the Bible. Read the rest of this entry

In the School of Christ

By John Thiel

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.

Those who do not learn every day in the school of Christ, who do not spend much time in earnest prayer, are not fit to handle the work of God in any of its branches; for if they do, human depravity will surely overcome them and they will lift up their souls unto vanity. Those who become co-workers with Jesus Christ, and who have spirituality to discern spiritual things, will feel their need of virtue and of wisdom from Heaven in handling His work. There are some who neither burn nor shine, yet are contented. They are in a wretchedly cold and indifferent condition, and a large number who know the truth manifestly neglect duty, for which the Lord will hold them accountable. {TM 169.1}

Why are those who do not learn every day in the school of Christ, who do not spend much time in earnest prayer are not fit to handle the work of God in any of its branches? If they do not do this, human depravity will surely overcome them. That is the testimony of Jesus. They will lift their souls up to vanity. What is vanity? To say we are the true servants of God. This will surely happen. That is what the testimony of God is saying to us. We are focusing on the school of Christ. There are seminaries and schools of ministry in the lands that produce degrees. That is vanity. To receive a degree, masters, a doctorate, is vanity. We are living in a time spoken of in 2 Timothy.  Read the rest of this entry

Personal Heart Preparation

Something to Give
There are people out there who are seeking to find true meaning and understanding from God but they don’t know it. God’s church must have it. Missionaries must have that which every soul out in the world is lacking. The world cannot supply it. We cannot give if we don’t have.

You must receive light before you can give light. {TM 155.1} Read the rest of this entry

A Missionary Life

image

By John Thiel

When I was called on into the fulltime Bible work my family and I were called a missionary family and this is the way its termed, that you are not a missionary until you are called into the work. Frequently missionary work is laid down to going out and spreading out literature door to door witnessing to the people and then going home and having a different lifestyle. This kind of missionary mentality falls short of what true missionary work is. Jesus was called as a missionary. Jesus was sent on a mission. When did the missionary work of Jesus begin? Are we happy to think that his life was totally a missionary life? Every moment. Some people think he went into his mission when he was baptised and he did his work. He was a child and a carpenter. Children are missionaries. The home is a missionary centre because Jesus was a missionary in his home as a child. As Jesus was sent as a missionary to this planet, who is sent as a missionary as Jesus is sent? Do we have an understanding as who is sent as a missionary? Read the rest of this entry

Missionary Work In this Day and Age

0810102

By John Thiel

How do we do missionary work today? Is missionary work today different to the past? People are studying constantly church growth styles to increase numbers in the churches. They are training the people to do missionary work to a completely different order to what we do. What Sr White wrote back in her time if we were come along to the homes of people today to pray to them what would they tell you? Are people spiritually in tune nowadays compared to Ellen Whites time? The market has become flooded and people have grown wise to it. It’s a psychology exercise from the world. The real way to help people come to the real Jesus, the real Jesus is hardly known today. We are nearly at the end.

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find [it]. The Most Important Missionary Activity

By John Thiel

What is our mission? What is our duty? Even just to be church members? This church and message we represent is heading us in this direction.

Except the Lord Build the House

What was the object of Nehemiah and Ezra? To restore and build the house of the Lord. Is our work the same? It’s no different. They built a literal city and we are to build a spiritual city but it is a building nevertheless.

Psalm 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh [but] in vain. Read the rest of this entry

Rightly Dividing the Word

God has given us scripture to prevent us being confounded.

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

4:14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Read the rest of this entry
