Light in the Darkness
By John Thiel, mp3
Scripture reading: Isaiah 9:2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. … 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
What is meant with these words? The people who were in great darkness saw a great light, which was Jesus. But that still needs to be practically illumined to our minds’ eye. If we want to comprehend light for our blinded, darkened minds, we need to understand the darkness. We must seek Scripture to identify what the darkness is, so that we can then identify more clearly what the light is. It is a little bit like you cannot appreciate the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour unless you first see yourself as sinful and totally broken; therefore we want to look at what is meant by darkness. How God’s People Will Give the Loud Cry
By John Thiel, mp3
Scripture reading: John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.
The loud cry is to be given by a very small people. We want to understand how the people of the loud cry will be exposed. The knowledge that the word of God imparts on this matter is very much misunderstood by a large number of Christians who believe in the loud cry. We have to remember that when we come to subjects of this nature, God’s communications to us will be misunderstood because God’s ways are not our ways and we need to open our hearts to the way God is trying to communicate it to us. 1. Meeting the Enemy’s Attacks
By John Thiel, Learning the Lessons of Unity in Christ Conference, Study 1, mp3
Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant [it is] for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2[It is] like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, [even] Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3As the dew of Hermon, [and as the dew] that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, [even] life for evermore.
The Sin of the World
“These clumsy feet, still in the mire,
Go crushing blossoms without end;
These hard, well-meaning hands we thrust
Among the heartstrings of a friend.” {MB 124.2}
How accurately do these words describe church relations?
Do not cut off any man’s hands. I once read of a drowning man who was making desperate efforts to get into a boat close beside him. But the boat was full, and as he grasped the side, those in the boat cut off his hand. Then he grasped the boat with the other hand, and that hand was cut off. Then he grasped it with his teeth, and those inside had mercy on him, and lifted him in. But how much better it would have been if they had taken him in before they had cut off his hands. {RH, April 14, 1903 par. 23}
My brethren, do not cut a man to pieces before you do anything to help him. God wants us to have hearts of pity. He wants us to have reason and judgment and the sanctification of his Spirit. He is in earnest with us. We are but his little children, and we should ever be learning of him. Do not stand in the way of others. Do not lose your first love. You may have much knowledge and much intelligence, but if the love of God is lacking, you are not prepared to enter heaven. {RH, April 14, 1903 par. 24} Read the rest of this entry
The Pharisees and Hypocrisy
Christ gave his disciples a warning:
Luke 12:1 Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
The leaven of the Pharisee’s. Leaven is like a yeast. You start with a small bit and as you add it to the bread it pervades and causes things to grow. Hypocrisy if it is not dealt with will leaven the entire being until we grow up full of air, full of pride, full of air like a puffy loaf of bread. In order to make a good loaf of bread you have to give it a good punch and knock the air out of it. However, no hypocrisy can be tolerated in heaven therefore He says beware of the leaven of hypocrisy. We often like to examine ourselves and say that was the leaven of the Pharisee and I’m not a Pharisee so therefore I don’t need to beware of the leaven of hypocrisy. Well the Pharisees didn’t realise they were hypocritical. Read the rest of this entry
Casting off the Combative Armour – A Christian Does Not Debate
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. – James 3:17-18
Isaiah 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: 14 I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
The Tests and Trials that Get Me There
By John Thiel, mp3
Every recent meditation we have had is encapsulated in the hymn ‘Weary of Earth’. ‘I look to heaven and long to enter in’. We are on the borders ‘but there no evil thing may find a home’. ‘While I fain would travel the heavenly way, evil is present in me day by day’ and yet the Lord isn’t leaving us. We keep hearing his invitation of come. We realise he has not given up on us. ‘Cease restless will, thy lonely strife resign, I know too well how little strength is mine, grant me dear Lord thy saving love to see, I strive no more, I give myself to thee.’ As we come to the conclusion of this series, to have a place in Canaan I realise that everything we have meditating on I need to change so I may have fitness there. That change seems to be beyond us. Of those who make it to that heavenly Canaan it is written in Revelation 14:12. Read the rest of this entry
The Arm of Flesh Versus the Arm of the Lord
By John Thiel, mp3
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
We desire to worship God in spirit and in truth is to seek and appreciate the arm of the Lord.
Isaiah 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 20. Understanding The Way of Judgement in the Sanctuary
By John Thiel, The Sanctuary Series, study 20, mp3
This particular study is very valuable just after we have studied the three segments of the dress reform, because once we get information as to what is right and what is wrong in regards to actions, we fall into a terrible danger of becoming judgmental, of judging by what we see and making certain conclusions which don’t help anyone. Our careful study into judgment, the way that we judge, must be revealed to us as it is from the sanctuary. Read the rest of this entry
4. Remnant Church Sketches from the Spirit of Prophecy
By John Thiel, Prophetic Sketches of the Remnant Church Seminar, Study 4, mp3
1 Corinthians 1:6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, [that ye may be] blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have examined the Old Testament and the New Testament to see Gods church from the time of Christ to the end. We will now examine the writings of Sr White to see the display of Gods remnant church. This is to experience the benefit of what 1 Corinthians has been saying to the people living just prior to the coming of Jesus. To the people who are to be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. To these people God has given the testimony of Christ which was to be confirmed in Gods people to come behind in no gift waiting for our Lord Jesus Christ. Read the rest of this entry
The Cross Versus the Hellish Shadow of Satan
By John Thiel
This planet has fallen and Satan has become the prince of this world. Ever since the fall of this planet at the hand of Adam and Eve, we are all dwelling on Satan’s enchanted ground. Satan holds the people captive on this planet;
Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, [and] consider thee, [saying, Is] this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17 [That] made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; [that] opened not the house of his prisoners?
