Satanic Christians

Audio: mp3

The great controversy is going on in this world more sharply today than in any period of this world’s history; the battle between the prince of life and the prince of darkness. We must overcome in this battle as Christ overcame. That is the direct message to the Laodicea period if we overcome as He overcame then we will get to sit on His throne with Him.

Is it possible to be a satanic Christian? Jesus Christ came and battled to take on the powers of darkness and break the hold of the evil one. Christ was tempted in three main points in the wilderness. The three great points in which temptation comes to us is recorded in Luke 4:8. There we see Jesus’ response to the evil one. The devil took Jesus up to a mountain and he showed Him all the kingdoms and glories of the world. In a visionary presentation of the glories of the world, Christ was there beholding these things and Satan saying if you worship me I will give you all these things. I am the prince of this world and I will deliver them to you if you worship me. From a look at that, we would have thought,, that is easy, who wants to worship the devil?’ The devil took Christ into his hands and took Him up to a high mountain. The power in which these things were displayed is more than what we realize as we read these words coldly. This was an incredible temptation to Christ.

Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

In this warfare Christ does not enter into a long discussion with the evil one. He simply says get behind me Satan and in this warfare we are to overcome as He overcame. How should we respond when the devil come to us? We can say get behind me for it is written and that is as far as it goes. We don’t have to go into any long cognitive function over the temptations of the evil one. If it is wrong, get behind me I don’t want it. I am not interested. It is written and move on. If we stop and palliate with temptation and play around with it and consider it and think yeah maybe and dwell upon it, then we’ll be taken in very quickly. We must overcome as Jesus overcame. Get thee behind me Satan. This is not a very complicated way of dealing with the enemy. It is very straightforward, very simple, very clean and very effective. But how many of us actually use it?

Get behind me Satan

The problem we have is that we don’t often front up to Satan and have Satan right in front of us. We will look at satanic Christians how Satan comes to Christians and assails them and how many Christians have taken hold of the suggestions of Satan and harbor them in their Christianity thus becoming satanic Christians. When we look at the temptations of Christ, we see Christ, Satan and the suggestion and answer and it is really simple. But when we are tempted, we don’t see it as simple as that. We don’t see Satan; it is not as clean cut as that for us. We read in Matthew about the enemy coming here and making the temptations.

Matthew 16:21
From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

Peter was expressing what was in his mind. How does Christ respond to this? Get thee behind me Satan. Is this experience as clean cut as the other one? Not from a human visual point of view. Here is Peter, he is following Jesus and sure he will eventually learn the truths, but Satan got in to Peter and Peter just expressed what he thought but it was actually the thought of Satan. How many thoughts do you have that are of Satan? Do you know the difference between your thoughts and Satan’s thoughts? Many people don’t and therefore, how can you say, get behind me Satan’ because we do not know whom we are dealing with.

Christ opens up the warfare into the realm of the thoughts. The fight has always been mind over mind. It’s always been Satan’s plan to put a suggestion a seed of doubt into a mind and once that seed of doubt is in there then we will travel a great distance from the truth once that first little suggestion happens in the mind. In saying,, get thee behind me Satan’ Jesus was not addressing Peter. He is not fighting against flesh and blood but again principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness in highest places.

How Does Satan Come To Us

Acts 5:1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back [part] of the price, his wife also being privy [to it], and brought a certain part, and laid [it] at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back [part] of the price of the land?

Here is the scenario; they made a pledge they would sell the land and give the amount of the land to the cause of God. What a lovely noble thing to do. As they go to sell it, they sell it and realise no one knows how much it sold for. If they give a different amount, no one else will know. Only he and his wife knew. Where did the thought of keeping a little back come from? The Bible says why has Satan filled thy heart? If you asked Ananias he would probably say it was his reasoning, that was just the way he saw it because no one knew and he needed a little bit of cash. He didn’t think he had to give it all because it was his anyway. Sure, they pledged it but they were not that serious about their pledges. Satan was the actual author of these thoughts.

Matthew 5:4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Who conceived it? Ananias. But who put it there? Satan put it there and Ananias took it and made it his own. How many times have you got a thought to your head and adopted that thought as yours when it was actually from Satan?

While Jesus was expounding the sufferings of the cross Peter said, no, no this is not it. Christ knew that suggestion was actually coming from Satan. Because He knew where it was coming from, how did He respond to it? He said get behind me Satan. If we understood what thoughts come from Satan, we could deal with them. If only we knew.

2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

The cosmic conflict it is not a physical warfare It is not carnal, it is not sword against sword and fist against fist but it is spiritual – mind against mind. The weapons of our warfare are mighty they are very strong. They can pull down strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

What is our duty as Christians? We are to take thoughts as prisoners and capture the thought if it is not of God. If any thought does not harmonise with God and His purpose then I need to take it captive and bind it up and deal with it and my weapons are mighty.

Can Satan Put Thoughts In Your Head?

If a thought comes into your head, do you often think that that is from Satan? Generally not. Generally we are so oblivious to this warfare that we accept that anything that comes into our head is just for us when it is not and then like Ananias we conceive it by taking hold of it and running with it.

We should preserve the strictest chastity in thought and word and deportment. Let us remember that God sets our secret sins in the light of His countenance. There are thoughts and feelings suggested and aroused by Satan that annoy even the best of men; but if they are not cherished, if they are repulsed as hateful, the soul is not contaminated with guilt, and no other is defiled by their influence. Oh, that we each might become a savor of life unto life to those around us! The Review and Herald, March 27, 1888. {2MCP 432.2}

There are thoughts and feelings that come from Satan and they annoy us. Have you ever been annoyed with thoughts that keep coming into your mind? Bang, bang, bang and they start annoying you? Do you know that you can deal with it? There is a way; the weapons of our warfare are mighty.

Satan is the author of these suggestions but it is up to us to conceive it. To hold it in the womb of our brain for these seeds to germinate into a child of sin. We as Christians have a warfare to fight and this fight is in the realm of the thoughts, this is where the victory is gained or the defeat is experienced – in the realm of the thoughts, what happens upstairs in the mind.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Feelings, emotions, the working of the flesh and the desires of the flesh present themselves as thoughts; Satan can generate them. When sin has conceived, it brings forth sin. The thought itself is not sin but the moment the sin is welcomed into the womb of our mind then it is sin. If these thoughts and feelings that annoy us are repulsed as hateful, if we deal with them saying, get thee behind me Satan, then we are not contaminated with it.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Is that a promise? Do you claim it? Resist the devil and he will flee from you. It is as simple as that.

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double minded.

God does not like it when we as Christians entertain satanic thoughts. When we entertain satanic thoughts while professing Christianity, we become satanic Christians. It was amongst Jesus’ twelve disciples. He said one of you is a devil. One was satanic and they were following Christ.

Matthew 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

If you have a thought, that thought as far as you are concerned is your thought. Can you deny it? Can you say, that is not my thought; I deny that it is mine. Whose is it? It is the devils. Get behind me Satan, this thought is not mine. Peter came up with the idea that Christ is not to suffer. There is not to be a cross in the plan of salvation; there needs to be no suffering in this experience only glory. This idea was from the devil. Jesus said unto Peter, if you want to come unto me you have to deny yourself. What you perceive as your own mind you have to deny. When something wants to come into your room deny the access, not allowed sorry. It does not belong here. This was the lesson that Christ was teaching His disciples; what does it mean to follow Christ and deny himself? There are thoughts and feelings aroused and suggested by Satan that annoy even the best of men and I need to deny them. Do we do this daily?

Satan is constantly at work, but few have any idea of his activity and subtlety. {5T 293.4}

Satan is running around in Christianity and in the church of God putting thoughts into brains and people don’t have any idea they are from Satan. They think, oh, a great idea. I’ve found a new doctrine from reading the Bible. I have been following the Lord like Peter was for three years and now I’ve got an idea there is a new way to heaven. We think surely it could not be Satan because I am a follower of Jesus. Why was Peter used to the devil? Becoming a Christian does not protect us from temptation, not at all. Satan is constantly at work but very few have any idea of his activity and subtlety.

I pray that we gain a realisation, an awareness that the source of many of our thoughts come from Satan.

The people of God must be prepared to withstand the wily foe. It is this resistance that Satan dreads. He knows better than we do the limit of his power and how easily he can be overcome if we resist and face him. Through divine strength the weakest saint is more than a match for him and all his angels, and if brought to the test he would be able to prove his superior power. Therefore Satan’s step is noiseless, his movements stealthy, and his batteries masked. He does not venture to show himself openly, lest he arouse the Christian’s dormant energies and send him to God in prayer. {5T 293.4}

Satan is scared because he knows the limits of his powers but he laughs at us because we do not know the limit of his power. The limit of his power is as soon as there is resistance, he must flee. Resist the devil he must flee. When Satan came to Christ in the wilderness, he tried how many times to tempt Jesus? Then what did he do? He backed off. He had to leave. Of course he came again at other stages but he had to leave Him for a season.

How many of us want a little bit of reprieve from the devil? Then we need to learn to resist him. We need to know the power that Christ has given us over the evil spirits. We need to understand the power we have to control our own thoughts in our brain; the ones that harass us and annoy us in our Christian walk.

Satan knows better than we do the limits of his powers and how easily he can be overcome if we resist and face him.
Through divine strength the weakest saint is more than a match for him and all his angels, and if brought to the test he would be able to prove his superior power. Therefore Satan’s step is noiseless, his movements stealthy, and his batteries masked. He does not venture to show himself openly, lest he arouse the Christian’s dormant energies and send him to God in prayer. {5T 293.4}

Satan fully understands and knows that if he comes to you and there is resistance then he has only a limited amount of pressure and he has to back off – he knows that. He has to come in a way that you don’t know it’s him and then you won’t resist. As long as you don’t resist, he’s got you. As long as you don’t know that he was the origin of the thought you will fall under sin every time if you don’t know that he is the one stealth fully working.

It is high time that we in these last days understand the power that Christ has given to us. We can overcome as Christ overcame. How did Christ overcome? He said get thee behind me Satan for it is written. That was it. He said it to his face. Resist the devil and he will flee. Satan knows that, he understands that he is limitless and he dreads anyone who would know that it is he.

A few hours ago I listened to the complaints of a distressed soul. Satan came to her in an unexpected way. She thought that she had blasphemed the Saviour because the tempter kept putting into her mind the thought that Christ was only a man, no more than a good man. She thought that Satan’s whisperings were the sentiments of her own heart, and this horrified her. She thought that she was denying Christ, and her soul was in an agony of distress. I assured her that these suggestions of the enemy were not her own thoughts, that Christ understood and accepted her; that she must treat these suggestions as wholly from Satan; and that her courage must rise with the strength of the temptation. She must say, I am a child of God. I commit myself, body and soul, to Jesus. I hate these vain thoughts. I told her not to admit for a moment that they originated with her; not to allow Satan to wound Christ by plunging her into unbelief and discouragement. {2MR 343.5}

How do you treat him? Get behind me. Dismiss the thought that thoughts came in saying, I don’t want them, they don’t belong here, go away. If you resist they have to go.

Satan can’t hurt God, he can’t hit Him and damage Him. Do you know how he gets at God? -Through His children. Think of a parent. Someone wants to get at a parent and they took their two year old and beat him in front of the parent. If you were the parent, would that hurt you more than yourself being beaten? Oh yes it would. The Bible says that we as Christ’s followers are the apple of His eye. If Satan can get to us, he is getting directly to the heart of God. If he can come and torment your mind with all sorts of thoughts, he will as long as you don’t realise it is actually him, he is very happy. But when you realise from the word of God these thoughts like Peter’s can originate from Satan, then we can deal with them. We will go, aha! Satan has been unmasked and we can fight this battle and not become satanic Christians.

“Do not fall into the temptation to harass your own life and make yourself miserable by your own reflections, which are frequently the direct insinuations of Satan.” You keep fresh in your mind your own grievances, and go over and over the same things, cutting and bruising your own soul…. {UL 314.5}

Have you experienced this; when your mind keeps on travelling over the same grievance again and again and you become bitter and more annoyed and it just occupies your mind? Where do these come from? These are frequently the direct insinuation of Satan. He knows what is happening in your life. He studied your life very closely and he can create thoughts. I can create thoughts in your mind if I wanted to. I can say a few words and I would know what would be popping up in your head. I could not read your thoughts but I can have a very good idea of what you are thinking. I can put a picture in front of you and I would know what you’d be thinking in a very accurate way.

If humans can do it to humans, how much can Satan do it? This direct insinuation of Satan for the mind to repeatedly travel over our pain and grievances. It is what Satan delights in. But if we resist these thoughts coming from Satan saying get behind me Satan and we resist, they will go away. If they come back again, resist again and they will go. As we keep on going, we will get reprieve.

The Rest

We must labor to enter into rest. That is the deep meaning of the Sabbath, laboring to enter into rest. Peter came up with this idea that Christ was not going to suffer and this idea came from Satan yet it was on a religious matter. Is it possible for Satan to come in the realm of religion and give you scriptural thoughts that go contrary to the plain teachings of the Bible? He can and that is where we get a different form of doctrine but it is actually coming from Satan.

The enemy is preparing for his last campaign against the church. He has so concealed himself from view that many can hardly believe that he exists, much less can they be convinced of his amazing activity and power. They have to a great extent forgotten his past record; and when he makes another advance move, they will not recognize him as their enemy, that old serpent, but they will consider him a friend, one who is doing a good work. Boasting of their independence they will, under his specious, bewitching influence, obey the worst impulses of the human heart and yet believe that God is leading them. {5T 294.1}

This is a form of religion yet it actually houses the worst set of thoughts. This is not going to the pub, drinking bear, smoking and doing those very crass things that the society does. It is a form of religion in following Christ; the worst thoughts come at that time.

Could their eyes be opened to distinguish their captain, they would see that they are not serving God, but the enemy of all righteousness. They would see that their boasted independence is one of the heaviest fetters Satan can rivet on unbalanced minds. {5T 294.1}

When the truth has been presented for a long time young people start saying, we are tired of this, we’ve got to come up with something new. It is a great temptation for young people especially young preachers to try and come up with some new independent idea that is wow, I haven’t seen that spin on it before. Wow, that’s really interesting. In this newness, people boast of their independence. I am not stuck to the old Adventist messages; I’ve come up with these new ideas. If our eyes were open we would see that their boasted independence is one of the heaviest fetters Satan can rivet on unbalanced minds. If you read the context of the quote, it talks about coming up with new doctrines.

To get the overall context I will read the following paragraph you will see it is talking of new ideas and doctrines. There are a thousand temptations in disguise prepared for those who have the light of truth; and the only safety for any of us is in receiving no new doctrine, no new interpretation of the Scriptures, without first submitting it to brethren of experience. Lay it before them in a humble, teachable spirit, with earnest prayer; and if they see no light in it, yield to their judgment; for “in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” {5T 293.1}

This is the context; if I come up with a new idea in my head I boast of my independence thinking that I am not bound to the old ways of doing things and because of that I boast in that. That boasting of the independent thinking is the heaviest fetter that Satan can bind people with. It is dangerous because one cannot be convinced of any other way. They are so locked into their own mind activity because there are thousands of temptations in disguise prepared for those who have the light of truth. What testimony is saying is that we shouldn’t come up with new doctrine or interpretation of the scriptures? We have to first submit it to the people with experience. Therefore, if I get a new idea on a text I will go to those of long experience in the advent faith namely the pioneers of our movement and I will see what their teaching was on various scriptures. I will go to the Spirit of Prophecy and I will go to people who have already died. They don’t live now but their record is preserved and I can gain what they have thought on what I think. If it conflicts, then what will happen? I need to submit and in that way, I won’t have independent thinking that Satan will want me to have.

That is the context of this chapter in Testimony volume 5. This is Satan’s work. He would like to do his marvelous work and bring in with these new ideas and as he coming in as a friend there is no resistance. And if there is no resistance, there is no foe. Everyone is happy, Satan is happy, people are happy and life goes on sweetly.

We are in warfare. Is the devil dead? Is he looking for people who he may devour? If we are not dealing with our thoughts if we like going along in our own head dealing with people around us, we are in great danger. Satan is not going to attack me with obvious temptations; he will come in so that I don’t know. The best way is to come in through the avenues of my own mind. Jesus said, if any man will come after me let him deny himself. It is talking of the internal reality of denying the selfish ego that keeps on running itself that Satan is so apt at tuning in and bringing in thoughts and feelings that annoy us.

In Revelation it says the church has always had this problem with people coming in trying to shift the old gospel message.

Revelation 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

The apostles had to deal with the false apostles in their day; people professing to follow Christ and coming up with new doctrine, new teachings. The apostles tried them and found they were liars. This was not the only time it has happened in the church’s history.

Revelation 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and [I know] the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but [are] the synagogue of Satan.

People say they are God’s people. The Jews have always been known as God’s people and in the New Testament era, the Jew is the description of the Christian church. They say they are Christians yet they are of the church of Satan. It doesn’t mean that every week they are going down to the satanic church and worshipping, they are coming to the church of God yet they esteem their own mind above the word of God. If it is above God’s word then where did it come from? It came from the devil, isn’t that what he had said in the beginning? I will be like the most High; I will exalt myself above the stars of heaven and sit in His high place. My mind is greater than the mind of God.

If I come to the scriptures and do not respect it by laying down my opinion but rather read it as it reads, I exalt my own interpretation or my own mind activity above the written word. I am only doing what the devil did and so I am bound in heavy fetters.

Most Christians are taught that you are the Bible interpreter. You’ve got to take it for when it was written and be the judge of what is applicable and what is not applicable. You need to be the discerner of what is true and what just the prophet’s words were. For they might have messed up and you’ve got to be the discerner of truth and error.

Oh no! The Bible, God’s word is the discerner of the truth and error. How do we know that? In Hebrew 4:12 it says it is a sharp sword and it divides and cuts to pieces and is the discerner of the thoughts and intents of the hearts. The word of God is the discerner, not me.

The Early Period of the Christian Church

There have been people that have said they are Christians but they are of the synagogue of Satan. They exalt their minds above the scriptures.

Revelation 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

In the days of the Apostles there were people who said they were apostles but weren’t. They said they were Christians but they were actually satanic and coming to the latter part of the church’s history these people still exist. They say they are Jews but they are not. The Bible says that he that is a Jew is not a Jew unless he is a Jew inwardly. Circumcision is not the circumcision of flesh but of the heart.

Many people call themselves Seventh Day Adventist but aren’t Seventh Day Adventists internally, but are of the synagogue of Satan. We need to examine ourselves how do we deal with our thoughts. Do we register that they are actually of Satan and that I can dismiss them if the new light they have contradicts the old. I’ve got nothing wrong with new light as long as it does not contradict the old. Nothing should contradict the old. If there is something that has not been seen in its splendor before, it is okay as long as it fits with the old. We never go to university or to higher education to learn that one plus one isn’t really two. You have to build on plain education and facts are facts. The worst types of satanic influences come from those who have had an experience with Christ. This is challenging.

Luke 11:24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. 25 And when he cometh, he findeth [it] swept and garnished. 26 Then goeth he, and taketh [to him] seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last [state] of that man is worse than the first.

Who casts out the demon? A demon divided of itself cannot stand or cast out Satan. For the devil to leave this house, for me to be freed from the evil one, I have to have an experience with Christ. But now I have had an experience with Christ, can I have an empty house, can I not have Christ in me? Can Christ be at the door knocking for entrance but my house still is empty? Yes. That is the condition of the Laodicean church. Behold I am standing at the door and knocking to the church, to the angels of the Laodicea’s write, behold I stand at the door. Laodicea is an empty house. If any man will hear my voice, open up and if not seven other demons worse than the original one will come in making Laodicea more satanic than every other generation before. This is challenging. If we have had an experience with Christ and yet He is not in my life personally, then I will be taken over by a more satanic power than I had to begin with and the last state is worse than the first.

Peter had true authority to write this seeing Christ rebuked him for allowing Satan to speak through him.

2 Peter 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

So many Christians speak of freedom in Christ that Christ has set us free from the law yet they are bound in sin.

2 Peter 2:19 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

2 Peter 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog [is] turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

It is better you did not even know Christ than to get to know Him. Getting into a spiritual experience where you think now I am saved or now I am in the church of God and start relaxing thinking the devil has been beaten yet harbour the most satanic thought you could ever imagine. What are they? Self-righteousness and pride.

The garnished house represents the self-righteous soul. Satan is driven out by Christ. But he returns, in the hope of finding entrance. He finds the house empty, swept, and garnished. Only self-righteousness is abiding there. “Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” Self-righteousness is a curse, a human embellishment, which Satan uses for his glory. Those who garnish the soul with self-praise and flattery, prepare the way for the seven other spirits more wicked than the first. In their very reception of the truth these souls deceive themselves. They are building upon a foundation of self-righteousness. {RH December 12, 1899, Art. A, par. 6}

In reception of the truth, they are actually deceiving themselves. If I accept the doctrine all laid out in a nice fundamental book and think I am right, I have the truth, but if Christ isn’t in me then that reception of the truth has deceived me. Not that the truth is deception but that I think that now I am okay because I hold the true doctrine when I am actually in grave dangerous because now I have an extra temptation to think now I am right and everyone else is wrong. I allow self-righteousness to well up, look down at others and become this amazing Pharisee. Satan laughs. He doesn’t mind, he will let the work prosper if it needs to as long as he can stay in the house.

The prayers of congregations may be offered to God with a round of ceremonies; but if they are offered in self-righteousness, God is not honored by them. The Lord declares, “I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.” In spite of all their display, Satan comes in with a troop of evil angels, and takes possession of the garnished habitation. {RH December 12, 1899, Art. A, par. 7}

Thus becoming satanic Christians. From where does this stem? What is the result of this? It comes from not governing your thoughts, not allowing the prideful thought to be dealt with. Church discipline can’t discipline prideful thought. There may be a poor soul suffering in the church and he does something wrong and the next minute he is disfellowshiped yet the head elder who is the most proud man in the world can go un-rebuked.

There is more danger in that than in the struggling soul who falls under sin, who knows full well that it was Satan. He is not deceived that he utterly failed but the religious leaders pat themselves on the back over their accomplishments in the last few years in office and what they have accomplished. We are duty bound as Christians to deal with our thoughts which includes thoughts of self-praise and flattery. Where does the thought that I am pretty good come from? Get behind me Satan, I don’t want that thought. Deal with it; it is coming from the devil.

The Armor of God

We need the armor of God, the sword of the spirit, our weapons; the shield of faith taking God at His word, the scriptures, girding the mind with helmet of salvation having the gospel on your feet so that when we go to people we can show the love of God. One important thing that will stop a lot of thoughts is keeping employed. If you are struggling with your thoughts, keeping the mind on the task, find it hard to gird up the loins of the mind and to pull in the thoughts and to direct them, then employment is the best remedy. When you are doing a job, you should put your mind to it. If you are daydreaming on your job you will be slow, you will upset your boss and you will not do a good job. But if you put your mind to the task, you are pulling in your mind to doing something. That is a remedy.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

The apostle says there are some people that are not working but they are busy bodies. Satan loves the gossip circles because he can use people to put thoughts in someone else’s head. He gets one person to think it and all he has to do is get them to tell everyone and when they get on the phone and start telling everyone, he’s got them all with his evil thoughts. They become busybodies desiring for social activities when actually they should be working. If you do not work, you do not eat and to be orderly and work is part of our faith.

1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Not everyone can get a paying job but there is something to do. There is always something to do and we can make ourselves busy in some sort of providing whether it is tilling our own ground because we’ve got nothing else to do or in actual employment, it does not matter. We are busy working doing something productive to harness the brain. When Christ was young, he did this. All through His mental development, He worked. He worked at the carpenter shop and He paid attention. He came to redeem the world from their sin but He had time to bang some nails. He had time for that. He had time to plain the wood. He had time to cut the wood. He had time for that because through that He was developing His human brain. He was human which means the brain He had was human. The divine dwelt there through being born by the spirit but the organ itself had to be developed and harnessed by hard work.

Proverbs 14:23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to penury (destruction).

In more ways than one. You can get paid, you can get money, but there is actual profit, spiritual, mental profit from labor. This verse is comparing working with talking. Those who don’t work tend to have a great desire to talk to people and Satan uses that as an avenue to destroy other people’s experience and their own. Most of the time is spent going around seeing what other people are doing, saying and getting thoughts. All Satan has to do is to get someone write a certain thing or to say a certain thing and he knows that will generate some thoughts in your mind and you will walk away having the thoughts of the devil in your head and you don’t even know it all because we weren’t busy working.

It is immoral not to work; six days thou shall labor and do all thy work. Then should we overwork? Should we be so busy that we don’t have time at all for meditation on Christ’s words? No. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days you will labor but the seventh is a different day. The forth commandment is a commandment against indolence and against overwork. The fourth commandment is against intemperance. This is a sacred commandment and I pray that we can appreciate the Sabbath more than we do.

It was God’s purpose to alleviate by toil the evil brought into the world by man’s disobedience. By toil the temptations of Satan might be made ineffectual, and the tide of evil stayed. And though attended with anxiety, weariness, and pain, labor is still a source of happiness and development, and a safeguard against temptation. Its discipline places a check on self-indulgence, and promotes industry, purity, and firmness. Thus it becomes a part of God’s great plan for our recovery from the fall. {MYP 213.1}

There is more temptations in idleness. Do you know what Sodom and Gomorra were condemned for? They had pride, fullness of bread and abundance of idleness. What sort of activity did they get up to? Their mind wandered in some very dark places all because they were not busy.

Diligent labor keeps them from many of the snares of him who “finds some mischief still for idle hands to do.” {MYP 214.1}

Judicious labor is a healthful tonic for the human race. It makes the feeble strong, the poor rich, the wretched happy. Satan lies in ambush, ready to destroy those whose leisure gives him opportunity to approach them under some attractive disguise. He is never more successful than when he comes to men in their idle hours. {MYP 215.1}

He is the most successful then. Yes, he can be successful at work. There are temptations at work, there are hardships anywhere you go but you will save yourself so much difficulty by getting the mind occupied by work.

Let us not say that work is our salvation. It is not but when we work with Jesus and walk with Jesus in everything, we can resist the devil and draw near to God and He will draw near to us. This communion is what Jesus enjoyed in His developing years.

I pray that we can also do the same and as it is written, bring every thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God into captivity. It is my prayer that we do not become satanic Christians.

Amen.

  1. Please: It is VERY Important to note up-front & with forthrightness that “satan” is only a FINITE Being.

    He cannot put thoughts into our heads on an individual basis. He is only a single person under the laws & constraints of what that means in verity: he is NOT Omnipotent. He cannot be everywhere at the same time & he must deal with people….all 6-7 BILLION of them on a very limited basis.

    This is important to settle into realising since it is NOT the enemy without that is the “danger”. Blaming the devil is merely a liberal mind-set of victomology that subtly excuses the human agent for their own dastardly thoughts & actions (ergo: “Character”) by the subtle assertion that “The devil made me do it” type of mind-set.

    That keeps us off our guard to deal with the REAL ENEMY: That of Selfishness within.

    The physical sciences, like all modern religion & denominations [remembering that even the SDA “Church” was NEVER meant to be a denomination, religion or like-type of an organisation according to the clearly expressed will of G*D] themselves portend to be the source of all knowledge while postulating that everything else is mere speculation. My problem with this quasi Kant critique, is that these postulations and assertions are the worst examples of the very thing that they are in essence complaining about—making, as they do, faith-based (Albeit secular in nature but nevertheless “faith-based”) grandiose excessively-general statements about the nature of reality that are considered smugly quite immune from empirical or logical examination, the most extravagant metaphysical conceit of them all.

    I would humbly submit that the SDA Oganisation is indeed a “Cult” due & owing to the self-evident disobedience against the expressed will of G*D that the “Church” was never to be constituted as a Church yet persisted to assert that persona & seek incorporation as a Church & denomination thus severing themselves off willingly & stiff-neckedly from the hand of G*D as the authoritative head of the, at that time, movement as it was intended to be in veracity, along with all the other various cults (like the Catholic Church & her Daughters the Protestant ones), would actually recognise their depraved predicament which is blinded by their narcissistic hubris that causes them to seek to up-hold “doctrine” (even the Holy Sabbath one) as preeminent truth when in fact it is merely a subtle satanic quoting of scripture & thus truth taken or asserted out of context while obfuscating the actual truth: The teaching of the sanctuary message. A Truth which would embark the wretched sinner onto a course of discourse and discovery with & led only by a personal involved G*D as the head of that interpersonal involvement with his people.

    This genre really should be called metanarcissisticmetareligousphysics as it installs itself as the last arbiter on truth and preemptively disqualifies, tout court, anything that could even possibly offer an alternative to its, the metanarcissisticmetareligousphysics that is, dogmatically positivistic understanding of reality….including that of the stance of SDA Churches, Organisations including the supposed reformed & fundamentalist versions.

    Good scholarship, good philosophy, common sense requires that each claim to structure reality, and there are many,including the positivistic and various religious traditions be examined on its own merits to make sure it does what it says on the tin. It is unlikely that only one perspective is coherent and useful—we should expect to find more than one, but it is truly pointless to expect to be able to assess one of these philosophies using the framework of another and find anything useful. That will just lead to the predictable conclusion that the best way of seeking the kind of knowledge that system A is intended to deliver is to use system A.

    All things duly considered are in actuality purely speculative, actually. If “some belief” does not translate into the little ennobling ‘things’ that takes the savage over to the civilised, it is of no worthy pursuit….especially if it cloaks the head of that inspiration & enlightenment as being with a personal involved & very real relationship with the one & only Creator.

    It is my experience that the positivists (religious as well as secular) are so locked into their way of understanding reality that they, quite literally, can’t comprehend any other way of thinking, or often conceive it is possible that any other way could provide access to knowledge (that couldn’t be acquired more directly with their system). Such is the narrow world of the, and actually if not essentially, all fundamentalists from Islam to Taoist including denominated SDA organisations…reformed or not.

    Micah 6:8 should be quietly & carefully well considered in this day and age as “real” religion.

    When ones conscience is clear of condemnation (I like the definition of Noah Webster on this issue where he defined conscience as “The voice of G*D upon the Human Mind”) within the constraints, constructs, & confines of G*D’s expressed word & outline for living life……THEN is one truely if not literally “raptured”….without need to be taken out of any conflaguration or circumstance as those things are no longer within the sullying reach of such an experiential experience and person thus involved in the same.

    I like the story of Enoch who, it is said by the Spirit of Prophecy, did not walk with “G*D” until after he had his son Methuselah [“his death shall bring judgement”], for then he began to understand & know G*D intimately and walked not with him to gain reward [“heaven”] nor to avoid punishment [“Hell”] but walked with him because he simply delighted and enjoyed doing so…nothwithstanding the surrounding evil & corruption upon the earth at that time.

    Spirit of Prophecy even goes onto state that Enoch did not even believe in an after-life as somehting to strive for or towards (Which necessarily would be a quite self-evidential “Selfish Pursuit”).

    THAT like-wise quiet pursuit should be the silent endeavour of each of us, myself most vehemently….

    To strive to avoid hell or to gain heaven is a pursuit sullied with the noxious aroma of self and selfishness….to wit the fruit of sin springs from.

    The new earth will not be populated with any such individuals….even those clinging to the sacred observance of any minutia of consecrated 7th day sabbath observance….because however true the truth is that is externally clung to…it is of no saving value unless & until it is [By G*D’s Hand alone] entirely brought IN TO, & thus fully consumes, burns away & desecrates any vestiges of self in the human agent.

    THIS is saving grace and salvation as personally taught in minute details by elevating NOT the sabbath message, but the Sanctuary message.

    Almost everyone & every group of people want an earthly “King Saul” leader…..& that is the fatal flaw of any & all cults.

    proposing to elevate the one true Creator, they still eclipse him in verity, in truth & with hubris resolve because of the sophistry of not “satan” as much & more-so due to self.

    For thus saith the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel: In returning and rest shall ye be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be your strength; but ye would not.
