When Pigs Fly

Audio: mp3

Is it possible to live a perfect holy life in this present world? I mentioned this when I was younger and the response was ‘when pigs fly’ you can live perfect in this life. It is a phrase that is used to imply it is just impossible; it’s never going to happen. It is the response of many that it is impossible to overcome sin in this life. I am very surprised how many people don’t believe that you can; that there is a way to live without sin in this present world, as in not sinning. Many people don’t believe it yet they call themselves believers and teach ‘just believe and you will be saved yet they don’t believe.

Do you believe that there is a way to overcome all the defects of your character? We will look at what the Bible has to say because the response of the majority is ‘when the pigs fly.’

It has also been said that the only time you will stop sinning is when Jesus comes in the clouds or when you physically die; when you are in the grave six feet under then you won’t be sinning any more. Therefore the idea can come that salvation is held in death, but is that true?

What Happens When We Die?

Is there the ability to live without sin and is it only when we die?

Ecclesiastes 11:3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty [themselves] upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.

The idea is that when a tree falls, in whatever direction it falls, and whenever it falls there it is. Does that make sense? In other words, when you have finished your life whatever you have achieved, wherever you are at, is where you are at and that is it. When we die, when probation has closed, we are what we are. We are where we are and there is no changing. He that is holy let him be holy, he that is filthy let him be filthy still. The idea that character change happens at death or at the coming of Jesus is very dangerous because if you are unholy you will be unholy, where the tree falleth, there it shall be. We must reach a standard if we desire to see God, the Bible is very clear on it.

1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

I have deep respect for a gospel preacher called Charles Fitch. He preached the everlasting gospel and he was put out of his church because he believed and taught that the gospel has the power to give you victory over all your sin.

I have, I can have, I ought to have no expectations of dwelling where God dwells of being an object of His love forever and a share of eternal blessedness which only He can give unless I have a character fully assimilated to His. Unless I love with a full and undivided heart what He loves and hate what He hates and all that He hates and a hatred full entire uniform, perpetual like His own. There must not be in me any approach to any thought or feeling which is not perfect full hearted and joyous agreement with everything that God is and with everything that God does. This must be my character or I will never see God’s face in peace. – Charles Fitch

Do you think that is unreasonable statement? It is quite logical because if you want to be where God is, wouldn’t you want to enjoy what God enjoys? If you don’t enjoy what God enjoys, then how could heaven be heaven? In fact, being in the presence of Jesus if we love sin, is actually very uncomfortable. Do you remember when Jesus came on the other side of the lake to where the demoniacs were? The demons inside of the man said ‘have you come to torment us before the time?’ Just the presence of Jesus to these evil beings was torture. That is what it says in Revelation that they will be tormented with fire and brimstone forever in the presence of the Lamb. Do you think it would be nice to be in heaven if you don’t like what heaven is all about?

What if you were up in heaven and you looked along the table that was spread out for miles and you think, ‘there is not a thing on here that I like. There is no MacDonald’s, there is no the meat products and all those things, there is none of them here.’ Would you enjoy it? It is important to learn to love what God loves and hate what God hates.

Could those whose lives have been spent in rebellion against God be suddenly transported to heaven and witness the high, the holy state of perfection that ever exists there—every soul filled with love, every countenance beaming with joy, enrapturing music in melodious strains rising in honor of God and the Lamb, and ceaseless streams of light flowing upon the redeemed from the face of Him who sits upon the throne—could those whose hearts are filled with hatred of God, of truth and holiness, mingle with the heavenly throng and join their songs of praise? Could they endure the glory of God and the Lamb? No, no; years of probation were granted them that they might form characters for heaven, but they have never trained the mind to love purity; they have never learned the language of heaven, and now it is too late. {2MCP 650.1}

There is the forming of a character and there is the training of the mind to love purity and holiness. Holiness must be perfected in the fear of God.

How Shall I Posses Such a Character?

I have so many sins, is there a way that I can be freed from sin? I may want to obey and to see the goodness of God and when I try I end up doing the things I hate. What I love, I don’t do and what I hate, I do. I see a law in my members warring against the law in my mind and bringing me into the captivity to the law of sin and death in my members. Oh wretched man that I am who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Is there a way to be free from sin? Is there a plan that is going to release me from the bondage of impurity? This plan is called the gospel. Do you know it is actually the good news? It is good news that we can get rid of sin. Did you know not everyone likes the good news? This good news is not good news to everyone, because what if you did not want to get rid of sin but you wanted to go to heaven? Then the gospel isn’t really the good news so it needs to be altered, and so it is that there are so many variations of the gospel.

The gospel that I have to preach today is the one that teaches freedom from sin, not when you die, not in another life but in this present world. There is a way. If you have a nagging fault in your character that doesn’t want to go away, then there is good news for you. There is a way to purify the life. Many Christians change as many times as they can and they become moralists. There are certain morals and behaviors that should be done in the Christian life and so certain changes are made. They may give up drinking, smoking or pernicious habits that are socially unacceptable, but they can only go so far. You can only give up so much and many people give up these things in their own effort, they take a form of religion but they can’t go any further therefore they say there are some sins you can get rid of but not all of them.

Therefore, they teach that you will never overcome every sin, only some. The gospel can only get rid of some but not others. Is there salvation from sin entirely or is there only part salvation and the rest has to come later? Has God made provisions to save me from sin? And if there is such provision, can I avail myself of it in this life? In what way can I avail myself of this salvation from sin?

1 John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

Believe on the name of Jesus Christ. Does that equal salvation? Do you believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ?

Mathew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Here is the name; do you believe on the name that represents salvation from your sin that you will be saved from them? They attack you and hang on to you like cancerous tumors which you can’t get rid of. I need salvation from this and Jesus name is being given. Why? Because He will save His people from their sins. Do you believe that every single sin in your life can be overcome through Jesus name in this life?

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Here is the Lamb of God and what does He do? He takes away sins of the world.

Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Why did Jesus give Himself? What is the sole reason? It was to redeem you from all iniquity. But that is bad news if you don’t want to be redeemed from all iniquity; it is bad news if you don’t realise you have iniquity. If you realise that you are chief of sinners, if you realise you have habits that you struggle with and you desire to overcome but you can’t seem to get the victories over them, then this is good news. Jesus will redeem you from all iniquity.

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

Here is direct transgression of the Decalogue of the Ten Commandments and Jesus was manifest to take away the sins. I am surprised at how many Christians don’t believe the depths of it.

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Is God able; is Jesus Christ able to do this for you? A church is a collection of believers, and if God couldn’t do that on one level for an individual, could He do that for a church? Not at all. He that is faithful in that which is least, will be faithful in that which is much. If you can care for one, you can care for two and then you can care for three. But if you cannot care for one, can you care for a hundred? We see that He will wash us. I believe in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ that He can wash me, purify me, and make me holy without blemish. That is what He is promising to do. Is there a way out of sin? Is there an end to sinning? Is that what Christ came for?

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Here was this time prophecy of when Jesus Christ will come to the world, and what did He come to do? To make an end of sin. Can He apply this end of sin to your life today? Hail Jesus name because He is the way out of your sins. Do you believe that? The name of Jesus; that is what it represents. Believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved because He will take away your sins. What can Jesus do for sin sick soul?

Is It Possible To Be Perfect?

Most people say when the pigs fly. People who are conscious of their depravity who understand the power of habits, people who understand the power of sin need a powerful Savior.

Luke 8:27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in [any] house, but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, [thou] Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. 29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)

What condition was this man in? Absolute bondage. The extreme sense of the word bondage this man was in. Is it possible to be free from sin? Most people say ‘when pigs fly.’

Luke 8:30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. 32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. 33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. 34 When they that fed [them] saw what was done, they fled, and went and told [it] in the city and in the country. 35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

This man was clothed and in his right mind. The issue is in the heart. Keep your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life. The sin problem, is a mental problem. The Lord puts away the demons, He puts them into the pigs and the pigs go running and fly over the cliff and drown. That was the day when the pigs flew. This man was cured.

Is it possible to live without sin? People say ‘when the pigs fly’ but do you know there is a man who can make the pigs fly straight over the cliff? That man is Jesus Christ who came to take away our sin. It is possible to be in the right mind; that means a right mind, not half right and half wrong, it means a right mind. This is the whole point of why Jesus came to those who were bound up in Satan’s fetters. He has come to release them from all their sins in all practical terms.

Luke 1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, 68 Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy [promised] to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

What was the promise that God made to Abraham, that He swore with an oath? What was it? We read it. It says:

Luke 1:74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

That is the promise that God gave to Abraham and He swore Himself with an oath that this will be done. Do you believe that when God says something that He will do it? Do you believe that when God make a promise to Abraham that his seed would be delivered out of the hands of his enemies and will serve Him in holiness and righteousness all the days of their lives, it is possible to be done?

1 John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

Do you believe God? Do you believe that God can accomplish His promise all the days of your life currently? That you can live before Him in holiness? Do you believe that? If we don’t believe that we are just simply saying this, ‘God, you are a liar.’ That is what we are saying. It is not about believing that God can eventually get rid of sin, miraculously with magic or just burning everything and then it all starts again, but that He can deliver us from our enemies all the days of our lives. That is a different issue and if we teach something else, we are simply saying that God is lying and we are true, but what does the Bible say? It is impossible that God lies. Many followers of the Lord are guilty of calling Him a liar.

Romans 3:3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

Because some people have made a profession of the Lord and they have not found salvation from sin, they conclude the faith of God is without effect, but because some people don’t believe in the promises of God and claim them does that make the faith of God of none effect.

Just because some Christians have come to the conclusion – ‘I will live with my sins for the rest of my life. I cannot do anything about it, there is no way out of it, I am just going to live in sin,’ and alter the gospel according to their belief, does that make it impossible then?

Romans 3:3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? 4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar;

Who is true? God is true and we are not. Many people don’t believe but we read in the Bible that according to your faith it will be done unto you. Jesus was healing the cripple man who was cripple from birth, he never walked, and Jesus told him arise and walk. The man could have said ‘you are kidding, it is impossible, yes at the resurrection I will be able to walk but not now.’ Would he have been able to walk? If he had unbelief, should that unbelief then make the faith in God non-effect? Not at all. According to your faith be it unto you. We need to have believe, strong belief that God has made provision and made it available to me in this life to gain victory over my sin, all of them.

None need fail of attaining, in his sphere, to perfection of Christian character. By the sacrifice of Christ, provision has been made for the believer to receive all things that pertain to life and godliness. God calls upon us to reach the standard of perfection and places before us the example of Christ’s character. In His humanity, perfected by a life of constant resistance of evil, the Saviour showed that through co-operation with Divinity, human beings may in this life attain to perfection of character. This is God’s assurance to us that we, too, may obtain complete victory. {AA 531.2}

Before the believer is held out the wonderful possibility of being like Christ, obedient to all the principles of the law. But of himself man is utterly unable to reach this condition. The holiness that God’s word declares he must have before he can be saved is the result of the working of divine grace as he bows in submission to the discipline and restraining influences of the Spirit of truth. Man’s obedience can be made perfect only by the incense of Christ’s righteousness, which fills with divine fragrance every act of obedience. The part of the Christian is to persevere in overcoming every fault. Constantly he is to pray to the Saviour to heal the disorders of his sin-sick soul. He has not the wisdom or the strength to overcome; these belong to the Lord, and He bestows them on those who in humiliation and contrition seek Him for help. {AA 532.1}

Do we pray that the Lord will heal our sin sick-souls on every point? God has made a provision that every fault of ours can be overcome.

How can I obtain this provision?

God’s ideal for His children is higher than the highest human thought can reach. “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” This command is a promise. The plan of redemption contemplates our complete recovery from the power of Satan. Christ always separates the contrite soul from sin. He came to destroy the works of the devil, and He has made provision that the Holy Spirit shall be imparted to every repentant soul, to keep him from sinning. {DA 311.2}

Has God got that power to keep you from sinning? Can He give it to you? Is that possible? Does He give it to everybody? Not everybody receives it. Many people don’t want it, many people don’t know how to get it, and many people don’t care too much in getting it.

The tempter’s agency is not to be accounted an excuse for one wrong act. Satan is jubilant when he hears the professed followers of Christ making excuses for their deformity of character. It is these excuses that lead to sin. {DA 311.3}

‘Well Christ overcame because He’s God, I am not God therefore I can’t do it’ and then we make an excuse for it. That excuse leads into sin itself.

There is no excuse for sinning. A holy temper, a Christlike life, is accessible to every repenting, believing child of God. {DA 311.3}

This is good news to me, I don’t know about you but to me it is good news because there are things in my life that I think I don’t want any more. I try within my own strength to get rid of it, I can get rid of some but not all and the root problem can’t be dealt with. I am at a lost end, I can just improve my life in external moral habits but I can only go so far. Should I calculate that is my religious life and that’s it? Or is there a higher ground to reach? I want to inspire you to be energetic with this message because this can be in many people’s mind a discouraging message. I have got to overcome everything, that means I am hopeless, yes we are. But if we contemplate the power and promise of God to us as hopeless sinners, then we can rejoice at what God is offering to us. If we are too proud to acknowledge that we have moral defects, then the Gospel will be very meaningless to us. But if you can identify the plague spots in your life, if you can see it in the way you live in your home and the way you communicate and treat people or deal with situations, or deal with the children if you can see that and you think ‘Ah! I need to improve’ then Jesus has the answers. Jesus has the power. We just need to get it, to attain to it.

God Has Made a Provision

2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Who called us? God called us. As He is perfect He calls us, be holy even as I am holy. That is the calling. He calls us but He does not just call us, He has all things that pertains to that life and godliness to give us – everything that is needed. Not one thing is missing in the plan of salvation; it is a complete entire package to gain a victory over sin. What is it?

2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Is there corruption in this world because people lust? Yes. Where does the violence in this world come from? Where do the wars come from? Where does rape and the hideous actions that everyone hates come from? It comes from the lust of the flesh. Here the Bible is saying that we can escape it. How? By the great and exceeding precious promises. By these we can escape the corruption that is in this world through lust and be partakers of the divine nature through these promises.

Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

All the promises that are recorded in the Bible are made to whom? To Christ.

Galatians 3:29 And if ye [be] Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

What is an heir? It is someone who inherits something. Do you have to work to gain an inheritance? What is the requirement to gain an inheritance? You have to be a son. If you are not a son, it does not matter what you do, you are not entitled to the inheritance. But if you are a son then you are entitled to the inheritance. Is the receiving of the promise something that needs to be worked towards or does it require something that needs to be born towards? We have to be born again because that which is born to the flesh is flesh but that which is born to the spirit is spirit. We must be born again. So many people have been baptized into the church but not into the faith. We need to be born into the faith of Jesus Christ, not into a church. Those who are Christ’s are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise. If you are born to a father and that father is a just person, is it hard to get your inheritance from him? No. Do you get it the moment you are born? No, but there comes a time when the inheritance is actually delivered.

The Promises

These promises are the ability, the power to overcome all the lusts of the flesh, the lusts of the world and the pride of life; the promises of God are given for that. But for me to get the promise, I must be born into the family and then when I am born into the family it’s simply just waiting for a reception of my inheritance.

Galatians 4:1 Now I say, [That] the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

If you love Jesus Christ and are a true follower of His, then don’t despair when you can’t overcome everything at once. You have to be placed under tutors and governors because as a child you differ nothing compared to a servant although you are heir of everything, you haven’t got it yet. You are under tutors and governors until a time appointed. What does a child of a king have to learn? He must learn humility otherwise what will a child do if he’s heir to the throne and he comes and sits on the throne when he’s fifteen years old? He will wreck it. So he has to be put out in the army, treated like any other servant and really be put into his place so that he can be a humble contrite person, then when he comes to the throne, he is responsible.

Likewise we come to the Lord and He needs to humble us. When did the disciples really receive the power from on high? When they first met Christ? No, they walked with Him and Christ was teaching them all about the kingdom of heaven, they had to see themselves, they had to meet themselves and say ‘wow, we are failures.’ Christ said to them when you have denied me go to Judea. Christ knew full well that they would deny Him. He is not surprised when we fail Him, but He wants us to learn a lesson and that is we are full of sin and we can’t fix ourselves. Peter was full of confidence, ‘Yes I can follow the Lord and I can do this. Everyone has forsaken you, I will not do that.’ He falls flat on his face, sits in an upper room for ten days, and he searches his soul and sees the ugliness of sin and roots that go down into the soul. He sees how much he is trapped by sin in his life and after ten days of confession, repentance and contrition, what happened? They received power. It was now the appointed time; they would receive the promises that were made to Abraham.

Do not get discouraged when you think you are failing. See yourself as you really are. In humility come before the Lord and say Lord, I am a wretch, who can save me from this body of death? I have tried, I can’t, I am in desperate need. Now is the time appointed, the acceptable time. You will receive the promises of God if you still believe Him.

The Time Appointed

We are to be heirs of promises. These promises are promises such as; I will put your law in my heart, I will cause you to walk after my ways. I will clean you from all your filthiness, these are the promises that we are heir to if we are Christ’s.

Ephesians 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

What is the calling? Be ye holy even as I am holy. There is a hope in that calling. Sometimes when people say ‘be ye therefore perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect’, it is the most hopeless statement you can ever hear.

Ephesians 1:19 And what [is] the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places],

The power that raised Christ out of the dead that He broke the bones of the tomb, is the power we are to inherit if we would know the greatness of this power. If we understand the power of God to us, we would be rejoicing all the days of our lives. We would be before Him in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives.

2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

From whom does God receive glory? Us. That is the angel having the everlasting gospel to preach to all them that dwells in the earth saying with a loud voice fear God and give glory to Him for the hour of His judgment is come.

If we don’t believe that we can gain victory in this life over sin and have perfect holiness before God in this life, we can never ever preach the three angels messages. We cannot do it. To preach the three angels messages you need to preach them in their order, which means one, two three, three. That is the order, number one comes first. What is the first thing that the three angel’s messages is all about? It is about giving God glory. Is He glorified when His people are sinning and living in sin and being hypocrites? Does God get glory for that? What do others think when religious people are so hypocritical? Do they like God for that? Or do they hate Him? They hate Him. God is glorified by the way we live; in all manner of our conduct waiting to give Him glory. All the promises are in Him yea, and in Him amen. In other words, are you in Christ and if you are in Christ you have the right to every promise that is given, if you are in Christ. If I am out of Christ, then can I? If I am out of Christ and try to claim a promise, will it work? No because the promises were given to Christ. If I am His then I am an heir according to the promise. If I am not then I am not. We are to abide in Him, dwell in Him and that means that the life which I now live, I have to live by the faith of the Son of God who died for me and gave Himself for me because I am crucified with Christ. Although we live, we are not to live according to the flesh. This is what it means to be in Christ.

1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not. That is present tense, not past tense or future tense, it is present tense. If anyone is abiding in Christ, he is presently not sinning. If anyone is presently sinning, then he does not know Christ. If I need to sin, I need to be out of Christ and that is what Christ said to the disciples. He washed their feet, He made them clean. He says you are all clean now, abide in me. As a branch abides in the vine, so abide in me. Abide, stay in Christ and remain in Christ. How do I do that?

Are you in Christ? Not if you do not see yourself weak, weary, sinful mortal. {FLB 94.4}

Having a consciousness of our weakness tends to drive us to someone who is strong. A consciousness that I am chief of sinners and I need Christ and as it drives me in my weakness to Christ. I am made strong. The key of abiding in Christ is staying humble. How can you stay humble unless you are conscious of your weakness? The Holy Spirit wants to convict the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment that we would stay in Christ, that we would stay close to Him in our mental exercise realising I need the Lord because I have full potential to be out of Him.

While I am in Christ, I don’t sin. If anyone abides in Him, he is presently not sinning. What is the promise that you like? Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness and they will be filled with righteousness. If you thirst and hunger after righteousness, you will be filled with righteousness and if you are full of righteousness, can you be sinful? No, all the promises are an inheritance for us to receive. But at the appointed time what does the son do when he wants the inheritance? Does he ask His father for it? It is now the time appointed; I now need to inherit something. What did the prodigal son say? He went up to his father and he said ‘well, I want my inheritance now.’ He asked his father of his inheritance, he gave it to him, and off he went. Do you think we need to ask God to inherit promises? We need to ask.

Luke 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; 6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? 7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. 8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. 9 ¶ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if [he ask] a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Have you asked lately? Have you given up on trying to overcome your sins and said ‘well I will live with this for the rest days of my life?’ Or have you been down on your knees saying Lord I need to have an inheritance here, you have said thus and thus. You never lie, for your own sake give me the power please. Have you done that? Not once, not twice, many times. Why did the friend give the bread; because he was a friend? No because of his importunity. He did not give up, he said I better give this guys some things otherwise he will keep me up all night.

Have you kept God up all night? This is an example by comparison. God is so keen to give us what we need we read that. He is very keen to give it to us but He wants us to be very keen to receive it. The Lord is saying, at the appointed time when we have become utterly humbled before Him and conscious of all our sins then we need to go to Him and say ‘I need bread, I need righteousness, I have nothing and I will keep you up all night until you give to me this gift you want to give me. You can say ‘I know you want to give it to me, just give it to me please.’ If we ask God, our joy will be full. We don’t have enough strength in God’s promises to plead like this, we need to understand and believe that the power of God’s word when we trust His word then we can put all our weight upon it in pleading before Him.

John 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Are you a sad Christian? We need to open up our needs and ask Him. The disciples had been walking with the Lord for three and half years and Jesus said ‘you haven’t asked anything from me yet, three and half years you have spent time with me, walking with me, talking with me but you have not actually requested a direct thing from me yet. Ask and you shall receive and your joy will be full, if you ask anything in my name. What does the name of Jesus mean? He shall save you from your sin if you ask anything in the name of being saved from your sin, you will get it. Don’t try the red Ferrari, don’t try the million dollar cheque because that is not what Christ’s name is all about. His name is ‘He shall save His people from their sin.’ If you ask anything in that name of being freed from sin, you will get it. Have the perseverance and trust in God’s word that it will come because it is by these promises we can escape from our problems that we have today. Ask that your joy may be full. It is all about joyful living in Christ, joyful, victorious living in Jesus Christ in this present world.

1 John 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

What things is he writing?

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

I am writing this that your joy may be full, that the blood of Jesus can cleanse you from all sin. What is in Christ? Is it His blood? And what else is in Him? All the promises of God are in Him and so as His blood is in Him, so the promises are in Him and as He shed His blood for you and me, He has shed abroad His promises for you and me. By these promises that are in Him as His blood is in Him we cleanse ourselves from the filthiness of the flesh and of the spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Have you confessed the sin that you want to get rid of? Have you actually laid it before the Lord and said ‘Lord this and this and this are the actual issues that I am battling with. I do not like it anymore. I want to receive true repentance for it, I want to hate this with a perfect hatred, I want you to take this from me. I can’t do it, this is the heart of the matter, I have these thoughts that I’ve been cherishing.’ If we confess it and say it is wrong and claim the promise saying ‘I need some inheritance at this point’ and He is faithful and just to forgive, give for that sin, give His righteousness for that sin and cleanse you from all unrighteousness.

He that is holy will be holy still is the announcement at the close of probation. Do we believe that God has the power to cleanse us from all our sins? Do we believe that? Then we are believers. May the Lord bless us, as we believe in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ because we shall be saved as we continue in His believe.
