11 The Lord Our Righteousness

Audio: mp3

We have been unfruitful and in the investigative judgement, God is looking for things we may not have yet. To the sincere heart this may cause some discouragement so it is my purpose that we look again at how God is looking for fruit and how we get fruit.

Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and [in] all judgment;

I pray your love or fruit will be heavily on your tree.

Philippians 1:10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

What was the offence in the garden? An unfruitful tree is an offence. Here the prayer is that your love will abound and there will be more and more of this love and that there will be no offence in the day of Christ.

Philippians 1:11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Sometimes we can be so worried that we can’t see any fruit on our tree but if you notice in an orchard, the trees with the most amount of fruit are the lowest ones to the ground. I have a little orchard and I have very young plants. One of them is one years old and it bore fruit. It was the only one that did and it pulled tiny little twigs right down to the ground and all the other trees stood tall.

Just because you cannot identify any goodness about yourself, it doesn’t mean we don’t have fruit. Repentance itself is fruit. When you don’t feel like you have any fruit and you repent before God over that fact, we have an experience of bearing fruit. But this fruit comes by Jesus Christ these fruits of righteousness. There will be a name given and we can liken righteousness to a fruitful tree. A fruitful tree comes by Jesus Christ and in Jeremiah 23 there is a name given.

Jeremiah 23:6, In his day Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

The Lord our Fruitful Tree. How do we get a fruitful tree? By Jesus Christ. Here His name, who is He? Isn’t it Christ? You’ll have His name. In His day Judah shall be saved and this is the name that he shall give, this righteous branch.

Jeremiah 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

A fruitful branch correct? In His day Judah shall be saved. This is nothing less than Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ’s name would be a fruitful tree, a fruitful branch; the Lord our Righteousness is His name.

A name is a noun, a naming word. A name describes something and I would like to establish this principal as we continue our study. In Genesis 2, God brought all the animals to Adam. What does Adam do to them? He gave them names. What he called them that’s what they were. When we have to name something today, we have to name it and according to its characteristic we give it its name. When Adam gave the name woman, what was the reasoning behind it? Was it just a nice sounding sort of expression that came from the lip or did it have a meaning? He named all the animals.

Genesis 2:21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

It was just an exercise.

Genesis 2:23 And Adam said, this is bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

The name wasn’t just the in the expression, it was a description of what just took place. The name shall be what it is a woman, she just came from man, ‘wo-man.’

Genesis 3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve,

Why; because she was the mother of all living. The name had a reason, it was to describe that Eve was the mother of all living and obviously that word was to describe that fact and that’s why the name was given.

In the story when Abigail came before King David and he was speaking of Nabal and he said as Nabal’s name is so is he, a fool because that’s the meaning of his name. In biblical times, often they didn’t even name the children until if they saw some characteristics that they could name the children. Unlike today when we name children it’s just nice sounding name, it’s got to roll off the tongue nicely.

There’s even times where God have to change the name because the name didn’t describe the characteristic and when Abram was his name and he entered into a covenant of with God and became a new person, he got a new name, Abraham.

The same with Jacob when he wrestled with the Angel and he became a new person and received a new characteristic, therefore he got a new name, Israel. Jesus Christ’s name was given the Lord of Righteousness. Why? Was it a nice sounding name? No it is the description of His characteristic, Jesus Christ is our fruitful tree. Our fruitful tree comes by Jesus Christ. A name is to describe a characteristic. When do we get name changes? When we get married? When you get married you get a different name. In Romans 7 there is a very clear description of what we are talking about.

Romans 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to [her] husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of [her] husband.

When someone gets married they are bound to their husband. The husband is the head and the name of the husband is transferred to the wife and she is bound to that name as they have become one flesh. He is the head and she is submissive. Her name gets resigned and she becomes part of him.

Romans 7:3 while [her] husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, [even] to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

How do you bring forth fruit? Be married to Christ because what is Christ’s name? The fruitful branch, the branch of David, the righteous branch, the Lord our Righteousness is His name. That’s His name, it describes Him.

Mrs Fleshy and Mr Righteous

When you’re married to Christ what happens? You get His name. Our name before we are married, the Bible says that the gentiles are called the un-circumcision, that’s their name. The foreskin of the flesh, that’s their name. Mrs Fleshly because we are married to the flesh and through repentance Mr Flesh dies and when Mr Flesh dies who can you marry? The righteous fruitful tree, Mr Righteous you can marry.

Who do you become? What is your name once you’ve married Mr Righteous is it Mrs Flesh? It’s Mrs Righteous. But all your peers would say and isn’t it true when someone gets married you often call them their old name. You’re still associated with Mrs Flesh. Sometimes as Christians we engage into Christ and everyone around us still sees us as sinful as ever. They still associate us with whoever we were or whatever our name was. They don’t comprehend the name change and only people that meet us for the first time with our new name, that’s all they know.

So it is in real life that when we get married to Mr Righteous, people would still call us Mrs Flesh. But are we if we are married to Christ? No, we are Mrs Righteous. We are righteous. But what if you do something wrong? What if you’re not righteous? Well you are because you’re Mrs Righteous, that’s your name. You may not always act in an apparently righteous way, but you’re still righteous.

Jesus Christ being married to him, this fruitful branch.

Jeremiah 33:16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this [is the name] wherewith she shall be called THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

What name is that? Same as who? Same as Jesus? Here the Bible is saying that whoever marries Jesus will get His last name. So if you have that name, is it not a descriptive word? Isn’t it to describe your characteristics? If you feel that you’re not fruitful, well marry Christ. Be submissive to Christ, repent and your name will be Mrs Fruitful and God will never name a name that isn’t a description. He doesn’t just make names up because they sound nice, God is into describing things. He is into giving a name according to what it really is. That’s what God is into.

If He has given us a name the Lord our Righteousness, can anyone dispute that name? Can you dispute it? Can you say, God, that’s not a description? Forget the description. If God has said it, so it is. This is justification by faith. When are we justified? When do we receive the name Righteous? When we marry Him.

To be married

What is marriage between a man and a woman? Ephesians 5:22 says very clearly to be justified isn’t just a blanket that is thrown over irrespective of your actions; if you engage in a marriage, it’s just not walking down the aisle and kissing the bride. It’s got nothing to do with it. It’s exchanging vows of submission. That’s what it is.

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands,

Isn’t that the vow? Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands If we want to marry Christ as wives, what do we have to do? Submit to Christ. Do we just want His name?

There were seven women that came to Christ and said, we want to wear our own things and eat our own food, but just to be called by thy name and that is Christianity today. They liked the idea of justification but they still want to do their own thing. Is that submission? No. To marry Christ is to submit to Christ.

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in every thing.

5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.

This relationship of marriage and Christ and His Church’s marriage, God’s Church has His same name. She shall be called THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. He shall be called THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. They have the same last name and this name can only come by submission.

2 Timothy 2:9 He that nameth the name of Christ shall be part from iniquity.

Submission is there but also full obedience as well which is very much intertwined together. We cannot be married to two. We cannot be married to Mr Flesh and Mr Righteous. It’s adultery. We have to come in repentance and repentance will kill Mr Flesh and not to be like the seven women that still loved Mr Flesh and loved Mr Righteous at the same time. What name did they have? They only had the name harlot but this is the name that they have because it describes them. Friendship with the world has nothing to do with the love of the Father.

This is when we feel very unfruitful. We need to marry someone with a fruitful name and that is Jesus Christ. His tree is loaded with all the fruits of the spirit and if we marry Him, that name, the good reputation that He has in heaven, gets placed behind our name as our name. When God comes, this is Mr Righteous, Mrs Righteous. The name as we established, isn’t just a name, it’s a description.

Justification starts as soon as you marry. Although people will still associate you as Mr Flesh, you’ll even associate yourself as Mrs Flesh. I remember when I got married to my wife and she wrote her old name a number of times and so it is with the Christian. We still think, ah, I’ve still got the flesh on me. I am still Mrs Flesh. Well so it feels like that. But God see’s that it is not Mrs Flesh anymore. God sees this is Mrs Righteous.

It’s not so much a name change, but when we get a name. When do you get your name? At birth. A father can have a son and that son gets what last name? His father’s last name. As soon as the son is born, he becomes Mr Righteous. He might not act like Mr Righteous, he might not look like Mr Righteous, he might be crying and Mr Righteous doesn’t cry, but is that little baby Mr Righteous legally? He is and some might argue, well he is definitely not righteous, he’s an active little boy that keeps falling over all the time, he is not righteous. But he is, he is Mr Righteous.

Sometimes as a child we may not feel any different to any of the other little Mr Fleshes that are in the same vicinity.

Galatians 4:1 Now I say, that the heir, and then heir is a son, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;

2 but is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

What is the scripture saying? The child doesn’t appear to be Mr Righteous. He doesn’t appear to be any different from any of the other children around him. As long as he is a child, he differs nothing from the servant. Is the servant the child of the King? No, he is only of the servant, he is not the child and so you have the servant and the child and they both get disciplined, they both have a hard time, they both have to sometimes go to their room without dinner, they both go through the same external things except one of them is Mr Righteous.

When we become Christians and receive Jesus Christ to marry Him or to receive Him, we have the power to become His children. When we become His children, what is our name? Our name describes what? Our character although to all parents, the child is the same as any other.

Justification works exactly like this. When we have done wrong and we pray to God, His name covers us although we do not feel that we have changed, although people will still look at us as though we haven’t changed, God in heaven sees the name Righteous as a child is when He is born. There is discipline involved and all sorts of engagement but the child will become like the father.

Although we may not feel like we are a fruitful tree, if we come in repentance before God and marry Him, submit to Him as a wife, as a child, we shall receive this name and this is the name she shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. This is beautiful instruction on our prayer life.

Daniel 9:19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive

What is happening? Forgive is repentance.

Daniel 19:9 hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

When we go to heaven in prayer, what do we have to bring before God? The name we have been given because the whole family in heaven and in earth is named after the Father. When we engage in prayer we have nothing to offer but helplessness but we have a name and that is our surname, Righteous, the Lord our Righteous, Jesus Christ is our name.

As we pray we feel like we are a barren tree, help me Lord for by name, you have given me this name and if you have given me this name, you need to give me the fruit, and this is powerful prayer. Didn’t God love Daniel? He prayed this. Didn’t all heaven love Daniel? Would you like heaven to love your prayers when they come up? We should pray in the power of the name of Jesus Christ. This powerful name is given as our surname.

Ephesians 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.

When you’re in a family, are all not your brothers’ and sisters’ named with the same? How dare you call one of your brothers or sisters Mr Flesh? Is that their name? No it’s calling each other names. Should we call each other names? No, we should call each other by the right name; Mr Righteous.

Whole heaven and earth is named by the same name. A name is a descriptive word and when God comes, what He is looking for upon our foreheads? The Father’s name written on our foreheads. It has become our character, not just in name but in all reality and the white garments is the righteousness of Christ of the saints. Because this righteous garment that came over in justification has produced a righteous garment of your own.

The relationship between sanctification and justification is held in the name. When you leave the country and so it is when you leave earth, there are two documents you need. The marriage certificate and your birth certificate. One if you’re a male to prove your name and another if you’re a female to prove your name change.

God will require each one of our hands, not what we have done in our lives, have you been preaching, have you been healing the sick, that’s not what you need to bring to heaven, you need to bring the documents of your name change. You need to bring your Marriage Certificate.

Here is the name that she shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. It’s His name; not mine. I have nothing to do with it. I didn’t make the name. God made the name and here it is God. You promised this is the name, you described it. Nothing that I have done. We can’t boast. Here is my Birth Certificate, it proves my name. This is what you call me. You gave it to me Father. You picked the name. I didn’t name myself. Then you get married, you picked your surname and you take the name that’s given. When you’re born you take the name that’s given.

I pray that our faith can grasp that we can take the name that is given to us and not argue and not go by feeling that I feel like an fruitful tree. If we come in repentance and get rid of Mr Flesh and kill him, we can marry. We can change our name and when you have that name change that’s what you need to leave the earth.

There has been many a child of God that has died and it is accounted to them for righteousness’ sake that they believed and they were righteous and received Christ. They had the name change and they can be in the kingdom of heaven.

I pray that we cannot be discouraged but we can take a hold of this by faith its strength and it can assist our prayer life that we can pray with power before the throne of heaven in the name of Jesus Christ and it can have meaning. Not just the name of Jesus, so many people say the name of Jesus. Don’t say it. Get it on the certificate. That’s what you need. When God’s people are praying in His name they will be heard.

Amen.
