The Sabbath of the Lord Thy God

 Audio: mp3

I have something very, very important to share with you today. It is very important because your whole life hangs upon this and our time together is not for entertainment; it is not exciting but is very important and so I pray that we can be awake.

We can read what the Lord says for us in order to inherit eternal life. What does the Lord require of you? What is the requirement?

Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Last week’s message was in regards to being balanced. It wasn’t about a bit of sin and a bit of righteousness. It was about having justice and mercy in its correct proportions. Having the right thing but having a correct outlook towards other people. This week’s subject is about what God requires of us; to walk humbly with Him. That’s what God wants. It is as simple as that. We can finish our sermon right now. To walk with Him is what He wants; nothing short of it.

There is a false doctrine going around that there is a God of the Old Testament and a God of the New Testament. That the requirement of the New Testament salvation is one thing and the requirement of the Old Testament salvation was another thing. Stated as such, it is error. God hasn’t changed between the Old and New Testament. He is still requiring the same thing.

Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

Is that the same as the New Testament requirement? People say the commandment to love is a new one; that is opposed to the old one. It is the old law set in a new framework of the heart, not on the stone, and so we have seen in Deuteronomy 6;

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

If you do not love God with all your being, you will not be saved. You will be lost if you do not love God. What is the greatest commandment?

Matthew 22:36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law? 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 22:38 This is the first and great commandment. 22:39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. 22:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

We are required to love God and to love man

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

This is the commandment that God wants us to observe; to love Him with everything that we have. Every bit of energy we have is to be devoted to the service of God. Now to illustrate this love, God has given an institution that is to run from the creation of the world to the redemption of the saints, but this institution we read about will not be in heaven. This institution is the institution of marriage. God gave it to us while we are on this earth. We can read in Ephesians 5 that this institution is the example or the illustration of the love that we are to have toward God.

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Do you see the illustration?

Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in every thing. 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife [see] that she reverence [her] husband.

Because Christ has such a relationship with him and His church, for this reason, man and woman should get married.

Do you see this relationship? Man and woman were to love each other to the same degree that Christ loved the church and because Christ loves the church and has beautifully displayed His love that is the reason that we can engage in marriage so we can display and partake of that love in practice. The only reason for marriage is so we can learn about the love of God.

On the sixth day of creation, God made man and woman. He introduced Eve to Adam and they were married. Do you know what the next day after their marriage was? It was the Sabbath. Let us read about this day because this relationship between man and woman was to display the love between Christ and His church and Christ wanted to sanctify His church. That’s what He was trying to do in Genesis chapter 2:1-3.

Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Here we have a particular day of creation that He didn’t create anything except to rest. He had finished making everything. He made man, he made marriage, he made a relationship and then he said, let us enjoy time together.

Love to God is what will get us into heaven. Have any of you seen a successful marriage in which the couple have no time together? Could a marriage work if there was no time spent together? You saw each other, maybe call each other, you briefly say hello and that’s it, could the marriage work? No, so does love involve time? Are you sure? Jesus says that the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul, and everything that you have and love and on these two commandments hang all the law. Is there any day in the Decalogue that mentions time? This day is a day of undivided attention to a person. It is not a day of do’s and don’ts. It is a day of undivided attention towards somebody. That is the only way love can work. You know today when people get married, they spend time together, they sit down on the couch and watch TV together and they don’t say a word to each other. Do many marriages last today? No, they don’t last at all today. Because you don’t need undivided attention to watch your television, you need undivided attention to one another and that is the only way love, the new commandment of love, can ever work.

Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

What is Christ going to do with His bride? He loves His bride so much that He is going to do what? He is going to sanctify the bride of the New Testament as well as of the old because it is the same bride. Here is a day that is a sign of this love relationship that can sanctify the bride.

Exodus 31:14 To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit. 31:15 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. 31:16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth. 31:17 They also went down into hell with him unto [them that be] slain with the sword; and [they that were] his arm, [that] dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.

God loves us very much. At creation He is busy at work and then He makes His beings that He wants a relationship with. Does He keep working and never stop? No, He says, okay, now I have finished my work, I am going to spend a whole day of undivided attention with my creatures.

The Christian world thinks that this commandment does not have any weight today; that we should just love and yet it is the only occasion that time is mentioned. Therefore, the Christian world today says that you can have a relationship without spending time together and t that is a stupid mentality because this is the sign that you love God with all your heart. Imagine if he said. “Yes wife, I love you, but I don’t want to spend a single day with you as that will be hard, that will be tedious, t hat’s works.” But if your spouse said, “I love you, we can chat at the end of the day but that’s about it.” Would your wife or husband think that you love them? If you said to God, “I don’t want to spend time with you.” Do you love Him?

Who blessed the day? Who blessed this period? Who set it out? God did. If God blesses something, then is it cursed? It is not cursed, and when He blessed it, was it only for the Jews? When man was created, He blessed the time. In this time, He wants your undivided attention. If you don’t want to give Him your undivided attention, do not love Him? Actions speak louder than words. Can you say, “I will spend time with you but on another day”? Imagine if you celebrated your anniversary on a day that wasn’t your anniversary, would it mean anything? It wouldn’t.

Actually, we are not even wise when it comes to marriage. People can make sure that there is an anniversary, we will acknowledge that and we do our love gestures during that time but when God, our Husband, the Husband of the Church says at this time I want your undivided attention, we say no, showing we don’t love Him. We can say we love Him but when God gets the impression that you don’t want to spend time with Him, undivided time, He knows that you don’t love Him.

Deuteronomy says if any soul pollutes this time they will be put to death. Do you know why? Because if you don’t love God, you are going to lose your whole life. Only those that love God will go to heaven and if you don’t want to spend time with Him, you can say whatever you like, but you do not love Him. Notice in Isaiah 56, contrary to what is being taught today, not just Jews have the Sabbath rest. It is simply a day of relationship.

Isaiah 56:6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;

Is He just talking about the Jews? He is talking about the Gentiles. When the Gentiles will join themselves for the Lord, when they become Christians, what does it say? “To serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant.” Does this covenant of love for the Lord, which cherishes time with Him, sound like a marriage?

Isaiah 56:7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

Does it say it’s just for the Jews? What does it say? It says for all people. So if you come to the Lord paying your tithes and offerings and devote some time to the Lord while negating the Sabbath day, that offering you give to the Lord is an abomination. It is not accepted because keeping the Sabbath must be a part of the covenant of love as we sacrifice our energies and do missionary service for Him. When we come into the house of the Lord and pray to Him then it is accepted unto Him because He knows you love Him because you have time for Him.

In Exodus 20 there is a commandment that begins with ‘remember’ because it is an anniversary. Remember don’t forget. Wives don’t like their husbands to forget their anniversary. God doesn’t either.

Exodus 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

If this is the first time the Sabbath day was ever mentioned, it wouldn’t have the word remember, but it existed before Sinai. It existed from the creation of the world. Remember it. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Keep it sacred, keep it free so we can have undivided attention.

Exodus 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

It is not the Sabbath of the Jews but it is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. Praise the Lord. It is special and what we are actually saying here is that God has made a holy day. He has made a holiday. Do you like holidays? Some Christians just don’t like them, they like their temporal holidays. They like Christmas and Easter holidays but what about God’s holiday? “Oh no,” they say, “We don’t want that. That is works.” How many people like working seven days a week? God doesn’t want you to work seven days a week. He wants you to stop. He wants you to have a holiday. Praise the Lord! Is that love? What we see is the Father in heaven, the head of the household saying, “Okay family, we are going to have a heavenly family day. I’m going to stop working, you are going to stop working, the children will stop working, we are all going to stop work and talk to each other.” Isn’t that a great idea! Yet, it is the most despised commandment. People accept that you shouldn’t commit adultery and that you shouldn’t bow down to images and that you shouldn’t kill but this one, the one that manifests all the love, people reject. Not just Sunday keepers reject it but many Seventh Day Adventists do not keep the day either. We want to understand what God the head of the household has done and how to make it a lovely holy day.

If you and your family take this principle and employ it to have a family holiday in the same criteria as the Sabbath, you will find the blessing just within in your own little family. Do you want to know how to have a holiday? We need a bit of education on this to understand how it is that we can have this time together to show that we love God. It could be the sign of our relationship towards one another.

Isaiah 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

Notice how these words start. Those that shall be of the Lord, it is future tense. What will these people be like? They shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, the repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in. How old is the Sabbath? It is about six thousand years only. You are not older than the Sabbath so those that shall be of Him will build up these old principles, the old ways to live, the paths to walk in. What else was in that foundation? Was marriage there? Yes and so what we have here is a two-fold lesson: first, how to keep the Sabbath day of the Lord and have a relationship with him: secondly, how to have a good marriage. If you apply this principle with the Lord and with your spouse, you will find the blessing because the relationship with the spouse was only to display the relationship with God.

Isaiah 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words: 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it].

How was the bride in the New Testament to be cleansed? She was to be sanctified by washing of water and by what; by the Word which proceeds out of the mouth of God, for the mouth of the Lord have spoken it. On this day we are to totally forget everything else but Him. Only Him we should honour. As we give Him our full attention, He will give us His full attention. As we engage in this for the whole day, we can’t do our own thing because the carnal mind is enmity against God and it is not subject to the Lord God neither indeed can be. This day is the day that the carnal nature is starved to death but the spiritual nature, the path that is born again to love God with all your heart is built up.

Does this process of starving the carnal nature and building up the spiritual sound like sanctification? This is what it is. This is the day which is the sign that the Lord will purify us if we will give Him all our attention. For who sanctifies us? Do we sanctify ourselves? God sanctifies us and we need to give Him everything. The word of God says we are to honor Him and not do our own ways nor find our own pleasures. Sometimes on Sabbath day, we wonder, what do we do? Let us find something to do. We are not to find our own pleasure. What does this mean not to speak our own words? That is a bit burdensome to the carnal nature. Do you know why people don’t like the Sabbath? It is because they are carnally minded. If you don’t like the Sabbath, you are carnally minded. It is as simple as that. But if you love the Sabbath, then the Lord is sanctifying you. Now we want to understand in through the Spirit of Prophecy what it is that makes this day so special.

God requires not only that we refrain from physical labor upon the Sabbath, but that the mind be disciplined to dwell upon sacred themes. {2T 702.1}

What is the Sabbath for? It is for putting your mind on sacred themes on the Lord a And does that take discipline? It does. That’s what the Sabbath is for. This discipline of focusing on the Lord will give us the victories over our battles that we have like nothing else will. If we can discipline our mind to think of God, then when we are in the battle during the week, we have practiced disciplining our minds on the Lord and He has become real to us. What things does God require that we must stop doing on the Sabbath day?

Those who are not fully converted to the truth frequently let their minds run freely upon worldly business, and, although they may rest from physical toil upon the Sabbath, their tongues speak out what is in their minds; hence these words concerning cattle, crops, losses, and gains. All this is Sabbath breaking. If the mind is running upon worldly matters, the tongue will reveal it, for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. {2T 703.2}

If you were in a relationship with somebody, and after a period of time you were spending time together and the husband was on the phone saying yes, I’m spending time on the phone but I’m just dealing with business matters, is that nice? No because the person wants your attention. “I don’t want you to do anything, I just want your attention to me.” Is that selfish to ask for someone’s attention? Not if you are in a relationship it’s not. God I saying, I want your attention. I want your brainpower here please. All week you have been doing your work, which is great. Six days thou shalt labour. Do your work but in a marriage, time is needed for the husband and wife to stop what they are doing and think about each other. Focus totally. Turn the mobile off. Turn everything off and be one with each other on a regular basis. This is what God wants with you and me. God wants our time. Don’t think about your business. Don’t think about your crops. Don’t think about the losses, gains, or what you are going to do. Just don’t think about it. It sounds like a tough commandment. It’s not if you love.

It is a sad failing with many that they are always behind time on Sabbath morning. They are very particular about their own time, they cannot afford to lose an hour of that; but the Lord’s time, the only day out of the seven that the Lord claims as his, and requires us to devote to him, quite a portion of this is squandered away by sleeping late in the morning. In this they are robbing God. It causes them to be behind in everything; it makes confusion in the family; and finally results in the tardiness of the entire family at Sabbath-school, and perhaps at meeting. Now why can we not rise early with the birds, and offer praise and thanksgiving to God? Try it, brethren and sisters. Have your preparations all made the day before, and come promptly to the Sabbath-school and meeting, and you will thereby not only benefit others, but you will reap rich blessings for yourselves. {YI March 19, 1879, par. 1}

I am just going to keep referring back to the family because we would like this to happen to us and God is no different, He wants a relationship. What does God require? That we walk with Him; that we love Him; that we be His friend; that we be His partner; that’s what God wants; that’s all. Now if we have a family day and that day was going to be spent enjoying one another’s and you will never get up till midday, h how do you feel? Do you feel like the day was wasted a bit? This is a special day. We have all just been sleeping. God is no different; He wants us to be awake for Him. The Sabbath rest isn’t to rest your carnal nature and just say wow, I love to just snooze away and stop working and chill out. We are to rest in God’s character so it takes energy against the carnal nature to be able to keep the Sabbath; to be able to devote time for Him and not to be late for fellowship.

Parents should search the Scriptures with their children. They should become familiar with the lessons themselves; then they can assist their children in learning them. Every day some portion of time should be appropriated to the study of the lessons, not merely in learning to mechanically repeat the words, while the mind does not comprehend the meaning; but to go to the very foundation, and become familiar with what is brought out in the lesson. The indifference of the children, in very many cases, is chargeable to the parents. They are indifferent, and the children catch the same spirit. If parents show that they attach importance to the Sabbath school, by giving it respect and prominence, the children will generally copy their example. {CSW 53.1}

It’s not just about being on time for the Sabbath school, but it is actually having prepared so you can enjoy the lesson because Sabbath can become tedious if it’s just more spiritual information you listen to. We need to become involved in it because this information is about God, the one we love.

Why not honor the Creator of the heavens and the earth in obeying the fourth commandment? Why not, as the Sabbath is approaching, Friday, have our businesses over before the sun goes down? And from the beginning of every week we shall be preparing our lessons for the Sabbath school. {2SAT 107.2}

What does it say about the Sabbath school? From the beginning of the week, we are to start engaging and preparing for this day.

We should not provide for the Sabbath a more liberal supply or a greater variety of food than for other days. Instead of this the food should be more simple, and less should be eaten in order that the mind may be clear and vigorous to comprehend spiritual things. {CCh 226.1}

We don’t want to eat so much that when it comes to an afternoon meeting we just drop off to sleep, because that’s not engaging with the entire mind. If you love God with the all your heart, will you give it to your food or will you give it to God?

Cooking on the Sabbath should be avoided; but it is not therefore necessary to eat cold food. In cold weather the food prepared the day before should be heated. And let the meals, however simple, be palatable and attractive. Especially in families where there are children, it is well, on the Sabbath, to provide something that will be regarded as a treat, something the family do not have every day.{CCh 226.2}

Here is something special to eat but is not indulgent.

Then search the Scriptures, parents. Be not only hearers, be doers of the word. Meet God’s standard in the education of your children. Let them see that you are preparing for the Sabbath on the working days of the week. {BEcho February 13, 1899, par. 6}

What do we tell our children during the week; not just Friday, but every day of the week? We are preparing for the Sabbath. We are preparing for a little holiday. The holy day of the Lord, a special time when we can come together and have church. We can sing and we can pray and as the children realize that your whole week is based around that day, then they realize that your whole life is based around God if all your time revolves around His time, then all your life revolves around His life.

Explain your work and its purpose to your children, and let them help themselves and their parents in their preparation to keep the Sabbath according to the commandment. {BEcho February 13, 1899, par. 7}

All the preparations should be made, every stitch taken in the six working days. All cooking for the Sabbath should be done on the preparation day. It is possible to do this and if you make it a rule, you can do it. All the food is prepared on Friday so we can devote our minds to God. Mothers, how many hours do you spend in the kitchen? Do you think the Sabbath should be the same spending time in the kitchen again? Is this Sabbath only for men? It is for women also so all the cooking should be done so they can rest too.

On Friday let the preparation for the Sabbath be completed.
{6T 355.3}

Is it the day to start everything? So many people make Friday the beginning of preparation and by the end, they are so stressed out that they don’t appreciate the Sabbath day. They just see it as a big burden because of a big stressful day beforehand.

See that all the clothing is in readiness and that all the cooking is done. Let the boots be blacked and the baths be taken. It is possible to do this. If you make it a rule you can do it. The Sabbath is not to be given to the repairing of garments, to the cooking of food, to pleasure seeking, or to any other worldly employment. Before the setting of the sun let all secular work be laid aside and all secular papers be put out of sight. Parents, explain your work and its purpose to your children, and let them share in your preparation to keep the Sabbath according to the commandment. {6T 355.3}

We should jealously guard the edges of the Sabbath. Remember that every moment is consecrated, holy time. Whenever it is possible, employers should give their workers the hours from Friday noon until the beginning of the Sabbath. Give them time for preparation, that they may welcome the Lord’s day with quietness of mind. By such a course you will suffer no loss even in temporal things. {6T 356.1}

Are we to be stressed to the max when Sabbath comes? No, we need to have a quiet mind. This takes a lot of force, a lot of planning to make it happen.

There is another work that should receive attention on the preparation day. {6T 356.2}

Before the Sabbath day, we need to have all our clothes ready. We need to have all our food cooked and baths taken. We don’t bathe on the Sabbath day. We need to have our shave or whatever we do completed by Friday afternoon.

The Edges of the Sabbath

The edges of the Sabbath need to be guarded. This part of Sabbath keeping is what makes the day beautiful in the external but some who for the sake of the external give up the internal part of Sabbath keeping because Sabbath keeping is the day of joy and gladness. There is another work that should receive attention on the preparation day.

On this day all differences between brethren, whether in the family or in the church, should be put away. {6T 356.2}

All Differences

Do you have an uncomfortable feeling caused by a difference with someone? That needs to go because that atmosphere is Sabbath breaking. If you have a rift between your brother, that needs to be made right before the Sabbath.

On this day all differences between brethren, whether in the family or in the church, should be put away. Let all bitterness and wrath and malice be expelled from the soul. In a humble spirit, “confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” James 5:16. {6T 356.2}

As the Sabbath approaches we need to seek for that unity in the house of the Lord that everyone is in harmony with one another.

If we do represent Christ, we shall make His service appear attractive, as it really is. Christians who gather up gloom and sadness to their souls, and murmur and complain, are giving to others a false representation of God and the Christian life. They give the impression that God is not pleased to have His children happy, and in this they bear false witness against our heavenly Father. {SC 116.1}

How does God want us to be on the Sabbath? Happy! He wants us to have no atmosphere of sadness around us. That is Sabbath breaking. We can have all the externals correct yet have a negative atmosphere and that is breaking the Sabbath. In the book “Faith I Live By”, it says that it is not a time to debate. We think that the Sabbath is the time to dwell on spiritual themes so we bring up our themes and others bring up theirs and we see who can convince each other. Sabbath isn’t for debating. In fact, it says that if we continue in the spirit of debating, we will not enter heaven.

A Holiday

This is a family day. This is how you make a holiday. If you want to have a family holiday for your family, this is what will you do. You don’t cook during your holiday. You have everything precooked for your holiday. You have to freeze it or make your little picnic bags, or whatever you are going to do, you have it all done, mark out everything that you are going to wear for your little family holiday, make sure that the relationship between each other is wonderful because we don’t want to spoil the holiday. We are to be happy on our holiday. Don’t be sad, make sure that all the businesses is dealt with, the husband turns the mobile phone off, so there is no thought of the work anymore. Don’t do anything that you normally do during the week, you can’t do that. The wife isn’t allowed to cook during the holiday but just rest the whole time. Would you like that?

That’s what the Sabbath is b but we can look at it and think oh we are not allowed to do this, we are not allowed to do that, the reason why we are not allowed to do it is because doing these things doesn’t make it a holiday. God knows how to make a holiday. He wants us to follow His rules strictly so we have everything done, that we are very happy and can enjoy ourselves. That’s what God is doing and if we don’t want to do that, if we want to work and work and work, we are going to die. If we rest and never work we will die. It’s nothing arbitrary. God is not saying, “If you don’t spend time with me, you are just going to be burnt.” He is saying, “If you don’t rest in my holy time, you will die.’ People die from over work. There is another class that actually do not even work. They live on the dole and they die because they do not labour to enter into the rest.

We are to prepare everything so when we have rest we are not thinking of things left undone. Do you know what it is like leave your house un-cleaned? The whole time you are conscious that you have to come back to a dirty house. But if you have everything prepared, it just takes it out of the mind. That’s what God is trying to establish. He is trying to get you to do things but not to do them just to do them, but to do them so your mind is free. That’s all He is doing. If we doing these things make us stressed, we are not doing them right, we are not seeing the Sabbath as it really is. We must know why we are doing these things and that’s why we have to explain them to our children so when they grow up they know how to keep the Sabbath. God is so wonderful and if we base this principle on relationship in the family or marriage, we will succeed in these relationships. Give each other your full attention.

Hebrews 4:4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

If it is good enough for God then it is good enough for me. Sundays is no good for me because it wasn’t good enough for God. God rested on the Sabbath day.

Hebrews 4:5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief.

The Jews were the first people to receive this holy time. Did they keep the Sabbath? They observed the day but they did not have a relationship with God. Therefore, they did not enter into that rest. They didn’t keep the Sabbath. Let us get it out of our heads that the Jews keep the Sabbath, they don’t. They keep Saturday. That’s all they do a and because it was first preached to them and they didn’t enter it then He brings it to the Gentiles, to the Christians and did they enter into it? They would rather have the papal Sunday Sabbath. To have a papal Sabbath is just to have a relationship with the carnal nature, the number of a man. What would you like, have a relationship with the pope or God? The whole Christian world is involved in its time with the beast but God is calling for people to worship Him and this worship takes time. Now what time is that? It is the Sabbath, holy unto the Lord.

Hebrews 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

If you want to have a religion that is not works-based, keep the Sabbath. If you enter into the relationship with God in His time, total dependence and total mind attention on God, then you have ceased from your works as God did for His.

Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Does it take effort to have a nice holiday? Is the effort worth it? God is saying you have to make an effort from the beginning of the week to Friday, make an effort to make the Sabbath beautiful every week. There remains therefore a rest to the people of God, a keeping of the Sabbath. According to the natural reading, there remains a Sabbath rest for God’s people to follow.

Isaiah 30:15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved;

Can you be saved without God’s rest? You can’t because if you don’t have rest with Him, you don’t love Him. I’m not talking about having Saturday or having the Sabbath as the day going to church. This is a whole day from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday of total devotion of not doing your own pleasure; not going to shops to buy stuff; not doing all this work and fiddling around. Give your attention to God and notice what the Jew said, in returning and in rest you will be saved and here was his reaction.

Isaiah 30:15 In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

We read that in the last days perilous times will come. Men shall be lovers of their own souls, boasters and proud, high minded.

2 Timothy 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Can you give yourself time? We have got time for ourselves, but what about God? If we don’t have time for God, it is because we love ourselves.

If it sounds like the family is falling apart, the family should work on the same principle that the heavenly family has worked upon. If we cannot give up our temporal things, if we cannot give up our carnal way for a bit of time for God, then we love pleasure more than God. There is the test. Don’t talk about how much you love God; show Him by giving Him time.

2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Turn away from such a condition because if you give God your time, you will dwell upon His power and His power is nothing short of creative power; taking darkness and making light out of it. That’s our God and all the problems that we have in our life, if we give Him our time, He will turn our darkness into light.

When Jesus comes, He will come with the voice of the archangel and all the dead in Christ will rise. Do you know what it says after that and talking about those that are living?

1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

The saints that are living just before Jesus comes will be caught up to meet Him and they will ever be with the Lord, no longer having the carnal nature’s distractions. They will ever be with the Lord. If you don’t want to spend one day with someone, how would you like to spend eternity with Him? It will drive you insane. But to the saints that respect God’s holiday, His holy day, the Sabbath of the Lord our God, if we respect it by keeping it carefully in the practical as well as in the heart, our relationship to one another if we safeguard them, we will love to be with Him forever.

It is my prayer that all the families can be blessed by implementing such a holiday as the Sabbath is.

Amen.
