Hebrews 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Was Christ, in His humanity, tempted in every way, as we are? Should we study or even discuss this subject?

Matt 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

2 Tim.2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

RH, June 18, 1895 par. 4 The mystery of the incarnation of Christ, the account of his sufferings his crucifixion, his resurrection, and his ascension, open to all humanity the marvelous love of God. This imparts a power to the truth.

Is the following quotation sufficient reason to shun the study of the incarnation of Christ?

6BC 1082.6 The incarnation of Christ is the mystery of all mysteries.

Note the paragraph before this, paragraph 5:-

6BC 1082.5 To present to the world this mystery that God kept in silence for eternal ages before the world was created, before man was created, was the part that Christ was to act in the work He entered upon when He came to this earth. And this wonderful mystery, the incarnation of Christ and the atonement that He made, must be declared to every son and daughter of Adam

YI, October 13, 1898 par. 6 The humanity of the Son of God is everything to us. It is the golden chain that binds our souls to Christ, and through Christ to God. This is to be our study…….And the study of the incarnation of Christ is a fruitful field, which will repay the searcher who digs deep for hidden truth.

It is clear, this is to be our study. But we are given warnings.

YI, October 13, 1898 par. 6 When we approach this subject, we would do well to heed the words spoken by Christ to Moses at the burning bush, Put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

We should come to this study with the humility of a learner, with a contrite heart.

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

ST, January 16, 1896 par. 7 The humanity of Christ is called that holy thing.

5BC 1128.6 He was tempted in all points like as man is tempted, yet He is called that holy thing. It is a mystery that is left unexplained to mortals that Christ could be tempted in all points like as we are, and yet be without sin. The incarnation of Christ has ever been, and will ever remain a mystery. That which is revealed, is for us and for our children, but let every human being be warned from the ground of making Christ altogether human, such an one as ourselves; for it cannot be. The exact time when humanity blended with divinity, it is not necessary for us to know. We are to keep our feet on the Rock Christ Jesus, as God revealed in humanity.

Deut 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

8T 279.1 The revelation of Himself that God has given in His word is for our study. This we may seek to understand. But beyond this we are not to penetrate. The highest intellect may tax itself until it is wearied out in conjectures regarding the nature of God; but the effort will be fruitless. This problem has not been given us to solve. No human mind can comprehend God. Let not finite man attempt to interpret Him. Let none indulge in speculation regarding His nature. Here silence is eloquence. The Omniscient One is above discussion.

So, with the humility of a learner we will search for those things that are revealed. A Thus saith the Lord. Was Christ tempted from within? Before we try to answer this question we need to know, what is temptation? and we need to know, is Christ’s human nature any different to ours, and could He have yielded to temptation and sinned? Firstly, we will study this in relation to man. What is temptation?

James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

MB 116.2 Temptation is enticement to sin, and this does not proceed from God, but from Satan and from the evil of our own hearts.

We learn from this statement and the above verse that temptation is enticement, allurement or attraction to sin. It comes from the evil of our own hearts, and this evil comes from Satan.

OHC 87.5 Temptation is not sin; the sin lies in yielding.

YI,July20,1899 par10 Unless there is a possibility of yielding, temptation is no temptation.

What is temptation from within?

Rom. 7:19-25 For the good that I would, I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Some other translations call this flesh, sinful nature, in the Greek it is human nature with its frailties and passions.

Paul is showing us here that there is a struggle going on between the mind and the flesh, (sinful human nature).He wrote to the Galatians:-

Gal. 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like:…. Mark also wrote about these works of the flesh.

Mark 7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

8T 312.2 …….Through sin the whole human organism is deranged, the mind is perverted, the imagination corrupted. Sin has degraded the faculties of the soul.

DA 397.4 To the multitude, and afterward more fully to His disciples, Jesus explained that defilement comes not from without, but from within. Defilement comes only from within. The next statement explains:-

BEcho, December 1, 1892 par. 4 His [the Christian’s] strongest temptations will come from within; for he must battle against the inclinations of the natural heart.

These inclinations of the heart, or passions, are very strong feelings, emotions, and desires, which come in the form of anger, enthusiasm or fondness, strong love or affection, and lust. This is the flesh, or sinful nature.

DA 336.4 While self is unsubdued, we can find no rest. The masterful passions of the heart no human power can control. In our own strength we cannot control these passions.

YI, May 10, 1900 par.3 After he has made this great sacrifice for us, should we deem any sacrifice too great to keep our passions, our inherited and cultivated tendencies to wrong, under control?

PC 412.1 The change which must come to the natural, inherited, and cultivated tendencies of the human heart, is that change of which Jesus spoke when he said to Nicodemus, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

In His strength we must control these passions. We will come to this later in our study. How are we tempted?

Satan tempts us through these passions of the flesh.

RH, March 26, 1889 par. 8 It is Satan that puts these desponding thoughts into your mind.

YI, July 26, 1900 par. 3 Satan puts into the mind thoughts that the Christian should never utter.

Even the temptations from without become temptations from within. Satans purpose is to trigger that answering chord within, those inclinations of the natural heart. Satan entices us through the mind, so logically it is only through the mind that we can overcome Satans temptations.

RH, April 29, 1884 par. 6 Every one of us needs to have a deep insight into the teachings of the word of God. Our minds must be prepared to stand every test, and to resist every temptation, whether from without or from within.

Romans 8:6 For to be carnally [fleshly]minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Galatians 5:16,17 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit,[the Spirit of Christ] and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

When we have the Spirit of Christ we will have the mind of Christ.

1 Cor.2:14,16 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

GCDB, March 6, 1899 par. 11 All who will study and obey the directions of God, will have the mind of Christ. Then all passions, all dissensions, will be put away.

2MCP 802.1 Real religion has its seat in the heart; and as it is an abiding principle there, it works outwardly, molding the external conduct, until the entire being is conformed to the image of Christ; even the thoughts are brought into subjection to the mind of Christ.

4T 354. Those who will walk closely in the footsteps of their self-sacrificing, self-denying Redeemer will have the mind of Christ reflected in their minds. Purity and the love of Christ will shine forth in their daily lives and characters,….

OHC 108.2 The science of holiness, the ethics that the gospel inculcates, acknowledge no standard but the perfection of God’s mind, God’s will. It is the character and mind of Christ which, by conversion and transformation, men are to receive.

5T 310.1 If the thoughts are wrong the feelings will be wrong, and the thoughts and feelings combined make up the moral character.

RH, February 16, 1897 par. 12 All who have the mind of Christ will turn away from everything tending to deformity of character. If Christ is taken as our pattern in all things, if he is formed within, the hope of glory, our minds will be filled with thoughts that are pure and lovely.

So, now we can see that when we have the mind of Christ we will reflect His image in our pure and undefiled character. We still have the same human flesh, but if we were to again fall into temptation, and sin, our mind and our character would again be defiled. In His humanity, did Christ differ from us?

Rom.8:3,4 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and [(margin) by a sacrifice] for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Christ condemned sin in the flesh.

Heb.2:17 Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

The dictionary meaning of all, is, in every way, the Greek gives the same meaning.

RH, December 15, 1896 par. 7 Clad in the vestments of humanity, the Son of God came down to the level of those he wished to save. In him was no guile or sinfulness; he was ever pure and undefiled; yet he took upon him our sinful nature.

MM 181.3 He took upon His sinless nature our sinful nature, that He might know how to succor [help] those that are tempted.

4BC 1147.4 He took upon Himself fallen, suffering human nature, degraded and defiled by sin.

3SM 134.2 Though He had no taint of sin upon His character, yet He condescended to connect our fallen human nature with His divinity.

ST, October 17, 1900 par. 10 Adam was tempted by the enemy, and he fell. It was not indwelling sin which caused him to yield; for God made him pure and upright, in His own image. He was as faultless as the angels before the throne. There were in him no corrupt principles, no tendencies to evil. But when Christ came to meet the temptations of Satan, He bore the likeness of sinful flesh.

DA 48.5 It would have been an almost infinite humiliation for the Son of God to take man’s nature, even when Adam stood in his innocence in Eden. But Jesus accepted humanity when the race had been weakened by four thousand years of sin. Like every child of Adam He accepted the results of the working of the great law of heredity. What these results were is shown in the history of His earthly ancestors. He came with such a heredity to share our sorrows and temptations, and to give us the example of a sinless life.

He did not take the nature of Adam before the fall, He took the nature of the children of Adam four thousand years after the fall! He was tempted through heredity the same as we are.

5BC 1130.7 Christ did not make-believe take human nature; He did verily take it. He did in reality possess human nature. As the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same.Heb.2:14. He was the Son of Mary; He was of the seed of David according to human descent.

5BC 1124.1,2 It was not a make-believe humanity that Christ took upon Himself. He took human nature and lived human nature……Christ’s life represents a perfect manhood. Just that which you may be, He was in human nature. He took our infirmities. He was not only made flesh, but He was made in the likeness of sinful flesh.

3SM 129.4 A human body and a human mind were His. He was bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh. He took the same flesh and blood, a human body and a human mind.

Heb.2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, made like unto His brethren(Heb.2:17)

To redeem man He had to be a close relative of man. See in Lev.25:25,47-49, only a near kinsman could redeem his own.

Gal.4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

Phil.2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

1 Tim.2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

He was a man. Unholy sinful flesh.

But the unholy was connected with the Holy:-

1 Tim.3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Matt 1:20,23 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Luke 1:23 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The connection of the human and the Divine. God manifest in the flesh.

John 1:51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

Jesus, like Jacobs ladder, reached down to our level that we might be lifted up.

3SM 134.2 Though He had no taint of sin upon His character, yet He condescended to connect our fallen human nature with His divinity.

He had our human nature, not our character.

Did Satan tempt (entice) Christ by inspiring thoughts in the mind as he does us?

Heb.4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. In all points, in every way.

RH, November 8,1887 par.8 He met the arch-apostate face to face, and single-handed withstood the foe of His throne. Not even by a thought could Christ be brought to yield to the power of temptation. A thought, inspired by Satan, in the mind.

Do we have to bear these temptations, these evil thoughts inspired by Satan, yet Christ be exempt?

3SM 136.2 The Son of God placed Himself in the sinner’s stead, and passed over the ground where Adam fell, and endured the temptation in the wilderness, which was a hundredfold stronger than was or ever will be brought to bear upon the human race.

ST, December 3, 1902 par. 8 Every device that the enemy could suggest was brought against Him. It was when Christ was in a weakened condition, after His long fast of forty days, that the wisest of the fallen angels used the most enticing words at his command in an effort to compel the mind of Christ to yield to his mind.

In the wilderness Christ was tempted (enticed) from within, on the point of appetite. Satan placed the thought in His mind. He was tempted in the same way that we are. He Placed Himself in the sinner’s stead. He put Himself in our place.

DA 71.1 The life of Jesus was a life in harmony with God. While He was a child, He thought and spoke as a child; but no trace of sin marred the image of God within Him. Yet He was not exempt from temptation….. Jesus was placed where His character would be tested. It was necessary for Him to be constantly on guard in order to preserve His purity. He was subject to all the conflicts which we have to meet, that He might be an example to us in childhood, youth, and manhood.

Remember that we learnt earlier that our strongest temptations come from within. He had to strive constantly to preserve His purity of character. Note this next paragraph clearly:-

DA 24.2 If we had to bear anything which Jesus did not endure, then upon this point Satan would represent the power of God as insufficient for us. Therefore Jesus was in all points tempted like as we are. Heb. 4:15. He endured every trial to which we are subject.

Becho, November 1, 1892 par.7 Christ was actually tempted, not only in the wilderness, but all through his life. In all points He was tempted as we are, and because He successfully resisted temptation in every form, He gave us a perfect example.

RH, October 29, 1895 par. 5 The life of Christ was a perpetual warfare against Satanic agencies. Satan rallied the whole energies of apostasy against the Son of God.

The conflict increased in fierceness and malignity, as again and again the prey was taken out of his hands. Satan assailed Christ through every conceivable form of temptation. Christ had to resist temptation through every conceivable form. Conceivable means;- any way that one can think of or imagine, so it is not hard to believe that He was tempted in all points as we are, i.e. Tempted (enticed) from without and from within, otherwise He could not have given us a perfect example.

GC 623.1 But Christ declared Himself: The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in Me. John 14:30. Satan could find nothing in the Son of God that would enable him to gain the victory.

Could Christ have sinned?

1SM 408.1 If it were not possible for Him to yield to temptation, He could not be our helper.

YI, July 20, 1899 par. 10 Unless there is a possibility of yielding, temptation is no temptation. Temptation is resisted when man is powerfully influenced to do a wrong action; and, knowing that he can do it, resists, by faith, with a firm hold upon divine power. This was the ordeal through which

Christ passed. He could not have been tempted in all points as man is tempted, had there been no possibility of his failing. He was a free agent, placed on probation, as was Adam, and as is every man.

5BC 1131.3 In taking upon Himself man’s nature in its fallen condition, Christ did not in the least participate in its sin.

RH, December 15, 1896 par. 7 In him was no guile or sinfulness; he was ever pure and undefiled; yet he took upon him our sinful nature

5BC 1128.4 But Jesus Christ was the only begotten Son of God. He took upon Himself human nature, and was tempted in all points as human nature is tempted. He could have sinned; He could have fallen, but not for one moment was there in Him an evil propensity. He was assailed with temptations in the wilderness, as Adam was assailed with temptations in Eden.

Yes, Christ could have sinned but He did not once yield to Satan’s temptations. But let us have another look at that last statement:….but not for one moment was there in Him an evil propensity. Propensity means to have a natural inclination, tendency, a bent or bias toward. Do we have these evil propensities? We do, remember we learned about these earlier, Inclinations of the natural heart, natural passions of the heart. In our human strength we can not control these passions.

MYP 67.1 He [Christ] knows how strong are the inclinations of the natural heart,

How does He know? He knows because He had the same human nature, the same flesh, and the same human mind that we have. These inclinations were in His human nature (flesh) (heredity), but His mind and character was not defiled by them. How do we know that?:-

HP 155.7 Though He had all the strength of passion of humanity, never did He yield to temptation to do one single act which was not pure and elevating and ennobling..

4BC1147.4 He took upon Himself fallen, suffering human nature, degraded and defiled by sin.

1SM 408.1 If He did not have man’s nature, He could not be our example. If He was not a partaker of our nature, He could not have been tempted as man has been…….

RH October 29, 1895 par.5 Satan assailed Christ through every conceivable form of temptation.

DA 24.2 He endured every trial to which we are subject.

5BC 1124.1,2 It was not a make-believe humanity that Christ took upon Himself. He took human nature and lived human nature….. He took our infirmities, He was not only made flesh, but He was made in the likeness of sinful flesh. (Infirmities means, our physical and moral weakness’s and defects.) It is very interesting to note that in the Greek the word flesh means human nature (with its frailties [phys. or mor.] and passions).

When he took our human nature (flesh), He took it with four thousand years of fallen, degraded, defilement. His human nature (flesh) was just like yours and mine. But in mind and character He was perfect.

Jesus, His Mind and His Character

3SM 129.4 A human body and a human mind were His. He was bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh, and Though He had all the strength of passion of humanity. His mind and character remained pure and undefiled.

DA 71.1 Jesus was placed where His character would be tested. It was necessary for Him to be constantly on guard in order to preserve His purity.

3SM 134.2 ….. He had no taint of sin upon His character.

He had the nature of man but not the character of man.

2T 201.2 He is our example in all things. He is a brother in our infirmities, but not in possessing like passions.

5BC 1128.4 ….but not for one moment was there in Him an evil propensity.

3SM 131.1 Christ did not possess the same sinful, corrupt, fallen disloyalty we possess, for then He could not be a perfect offering.–Manuscript 94, 1893.

In His human flesh, with its natural passions of the heart constantly drawing upon Him, Christ, in character, remained pure and undefiled because His mind did not yield to the temptations, the evil thoughts inspired by Satan.

2T 201.2 As the sinless One, His nature recoiled from evil.

RH, May 23, 1893 par. 6 He had a deep abhorrence of sin, while exercising the tenderest compassion toward the sinner.

5BC 1128.6 Never, in any way, leave the slightest impression upon human minds that a taint of, or inclination to corruption, rested upon Christ, or that He in any way yielded to corruption.

DA 397.4 Purity and impurity pertain to the soul. This is mind and character. Our human characters are defiled. Christ in His mind and character, is pure and undefiled. Christ had our human nature (flesh), so He inherited all that is in our flesh.

4BC1147.4 He took upon Himself fallen,suffering human nature,degraded and defiled by sin.

So all the tendencies, or leanings to sin, in our flesh, were in His flesh. But His mind and character were not defiled by them.

2T 201.2 He endured struggles and torture of soul in a world of sin. The same struggle that Paul experienced, the flesh warring against the mind.

His mind and character remained pure and undefiled, without corruption. When Satan tempts us by inspiring thoughts in our minds, he is aiming his temptations directly at these masterful passions of the heart, seeking to trigger that answering chord within, temptations from without become temptations from within, and through our minds we choose . This choice determines our character, and whom we serve. Christ did not have these evil propensities in His character because He never ever allowed His mind to submit to temptation, He did not possess the same sinful, corrupt, fallen disloyalty [this is character] we possess, so the thoughts inspired by Satan, did not tempt Him, instead He recoiled from the evil, He had a deep abhorrence of sin, within. Satan could find nothing in the Son of God that would enable him to gain the victory. Christ was tempted, (enticed), from without and within, but there were no evil propensities, no defilement, in His mind or character, there was no answering chord within. Satan was defeated. Jesus could have sinned, the same as you and me, and I praise God He did not. He chose not to. If he had sinned all would be lost. Christ is our example that we may overcome as He overcame.

Rom.8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and [(margin) by a sacrifice]for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

17 MR 337.4 He exercised in His own behalf no power which man cannot exercise.

3SM 139.4 When we give to His human nature a power that it is not possible for man to have in his conflicts with Satan, we destroy the completeness of His humanity.

DA 664.4 Jesus revealed no qualities, and exercised no powers, that men may not have through faith in Him. His perfect humanity is that which all His followers may possess, if they will be in subjection to God as He was.

He became a man to save us, He had nothing that we can not have through faith in Him. He wants us to be as he was. Our hearts pure, undefiled and without sin.

5BC 1124.2 Christ’s life represents a perfect manhood.

Just that which you may be, He was, in human nature.

GC 623.1 Satan could find nothing in the Son of God that would enable him to gain the victory. He had kept His Father’s commandments, and there was no sin in Him that Satan could use to his advantage. This is the condition in which those must be found who shall stand in the time of trouble.

In other words, Christ in His human nature was, just what we must be, or lose eternal life.

BEcho, November 1, 1892 par. 7,8 Through the ample provisions made in our behalf, we may become partakers of the divine nature, and escape the corruption that is in the world through lust. Jesus says, To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. This, the beginning of our confidence, we must hold steadfastly unto the end. Jesus can enable us to resist Satan’s temptations; for He came to bring divine power to combine with human effort.

Jesus said, I and my Father are one. He speaks of Himself as well as the Father when He speaks of omnipotent power, and claims for Himself perfect righteousness. In Christ dwelt the fullness of the Godhead bodily. This is why, although tempted in all points like as we are, He stood before the world untainted by the corruptions that surrounded Him. We also are to become partakers of that fullness, and only in this way shall we be enabled to overcome as Christ overcame.

3SM 136.2 Jesus resisted the temptations of Satan in the same manner that every tempted soul may resist, by referring him to the inspired record and saying, It is written.

COL 311.4 By His perfect obedience He has made it possible for every human being to obey God’s commandments. When we submit ourselves to Christ, the heart is united with His heart, the will is merged in His will, the mind becomes one with His mind, the thoughts are brought into captivity to Him; we live His life. This is what Paul meant when he said:-

1 Cor. 9:27 But I keep under my body [flesh], and bring it into subjection:….

In other words, when we submit to Christ, we unite our character with His character.

17MR 337.4 His life testified that by the aid of the same divine power which Christ received, it is possible for man to obey God’s law.

OHC 87.5 Christ was tempted that He might know how to help every soul that should afterward be tempted. Temptation is not sin; the sin lies in yielding. To the soul who trusts in Jesus, temptation means victory and greater strength.

In Summary the study of the incarnation of Christ is Holy Ground. To study the incarnation of Christ is our duty. We are forbidden however to enter into conjectures and speculation regarding those things concerning His human nature that are not given us. Christ was tempted from within. Satan assailed Christ through every conceivable form of temptation. Christ took upon His sinless nature our sinful nature, He took upon Himself fallen, suffering human nature, degraded and defiled by sin. He took our infirmities, our physical and moral weaknesses and defects, He took our human nature with its frailties and passions. He knows how strong are the inclinations of the natural heart, because He had all the strength of passion of humanity.  Jesus revealed no qualities, and exercised no powers, that men may not have through faith in Him. Satan assailed [tempted–enticed] Christ through every conceivable form of temptation. There was no answering chord within, He preserved His mind and character from defilement, He did not yield, instead He had a deep abhorrence of sin. As the sinless One, His nature recoiled from evil. He successfully resisted temptation in every form, Satan could find nothing in the Son of God that would enable him to gain the victory. Christ endured every trial to which we are subject. Christ in His humanity, endured the temptation in the wilderness, which was a hundredfold stronger than was or ever will be brought to bear upon the human race In His closing hours, while hanging on the cross, He experienced to the fullest extent what man must experience when striving against sin. Therefore Jesus was in all points tempted like as we are. In His humanity, weakened by four thousand years of sin, Christ could have sinned, but He resisted every temptation of Satan. He sacrificed all for you and me. He gave us a perfect example.

1 John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
