2. Daniel 11 – The All Comprehensive Vision of Daniel

In our introduction we learnt that the intent of studying the prophecies is to make an experience with Jesus.
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Jesus points to the fact that in the research of Scripture, prophecy being included in that, we will discover Jesus Christ. He also said in that scripture, “in them ye think ye have eternal life.”
John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
As we read the prophecies and study them closely we will discover Jesus Christ, we will discover eternal life, because by knowing Jesus we will have eternal life. And the prophecies reveal to us what Jesus is like. The apostle Peter said, We have a more sure word of testimony than merely my own personal experience in meeting Jesus Christ. He speaks in reference to prophecy in verse 19:
2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
The day is to dawn, the day star is to arise in our hearts. But notice that he makes a very important proviso:
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.
As we come to this study of Daniel 11, we are to bear this in mind. There are many different interpretations that do not necessarily come from the Holy Spirit. Prophecy was inspired by the Holy Spirit, and holy men of God did not project their own opinion. They were moved by the Holy Ghost. And being moved by the Holy Ghost, they portrayed the intent and the understanding that God expressed. As we come to the study of the prophecy we are as much in need of the Holy Spirit to be able to correctly read what is meant. The important ingredient is that Jesus is to arise through that prophecy.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
It is the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that is needed if we are going to come to a correct appreciation of Daniel 11. In our introduction we experienced that there was something profound in this prophecy that revealed to us the ministry of angels in the process of the unveiling of the world’s history. In Hebrews 1 we read that the angels are instrumental as ministers:
Angels Are Ministers
Hebrews 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
What are they? Ministers.
Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
In our study of this prophecy we were introduced to Gabriel, an angel, but also to Michael, who was called the archangel, and whom we identified very clearly as being part of the ministering to the situations of earth’s history in regards to the deliverance of His saints. The world affairs are directly interconnected with ministering to His saints. We want to re-establish in our minds that Michael, in His interaction with Gabriel, was definitely Jesus Christ. Many people stumble over the concept and ask, Why was Michael called an angel? How can it be that he was Christ? We turn to Exodus where we have Jesus identified as an angel:
Exodus 23:20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
He is referring here to the Israelites as they were travelling through the wilderness. An angel would be sent to lead them along the way.
Exodus 23:21 Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name [is] in him. 22 But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.
We see very vividly that this angel who was to go with the children of Israel was the one whom they had to obey.
Exodus 23:23 For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.
“Mine Angel shall go before thee.” Who was this angel that was leading them and going before them? Who was this angel? We can read of him in 1 Corinthians:
1 Corinthians 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
It’s interesting to notice how the margin reads, “that went with them.” They drank of that spiritual Rock that went with them: and that Rock was Christ. Here, in our comparing of scripture with scripture, we see that Michael the archangel is indeed Jesus Christ. He is called an angel as He went with the children of Israel. Again it is reiterated that He was Christ. Christ, Michael the archangel – an angel indeed. The word angel simply means “messenger.” Wasn’t Jesus a messenger from the throne of God? While we engage in our study of Daniel 11 we have these important principles to retain in our mind as we look into this prophetic subject.
As Gabriel and Michael are engaged in administering to, and demoting, the kings of the empires, they are simultaneously ministering to the saints. It is an inseparable ministry. The ministering, coordinating and orchestrating of the nations of course have to be in relation to the people of God that are dwelling among these nations. It cannot be separated. The well-being of the saints is dependent upon the angels and Michael administering and controlling the nations. At this time in our study we are to behold the unfolding of the world events as they are administered and orchestrated by Christ so that the believers who study this subject can understand how Jesus is actually governing in their lives through the interaction of the nations in which they live. In our previous study we highlighted two observations in the story of Daniel 11. The vision started in Daniel 10 and continued to Daniel 12. We understood, first of all, that it was an all-comprehensive vision, and secondly, that it was the activity of Michael and the angels. That is what we explored in the introduction.
Observe Daniel 11
We now want to explore the all-comprehensive dimension of this vision. Our purpose at this very moment is to examine the comprehensiveness, the vast field of application of Daniel 11. The angel is explaining:
Daniel 11:2 And now will I show thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than [they] all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia. 3 And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. 4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those. 5 And the king of the south shall be strong, and [one] of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion [shall be] a great dominion.
Three Kings in Persia
These first few verses describe the commencement of the political events of that time. What do we read in verse 2? The king of the Persian Empire at that time would be succeeded. “There shall stand up yet three kings in Persia,” and then there would be a fourth. “The fourth shall be far richer than they all.” The angel is explaining to Daniel the unfolding of the kings and their dominion over the Persian Empire.
Daniel 10:1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel,
Here is the development from one king to the next. In Daniel 10:1 it was Cyrus, king of Persia. Then he said, in Daniel 11:2, that there would be three more to come, and then a fourth. As we look at the actual history of this in historical documentation, the son of Cyrus that took his place, the first one of the three kings, was Cambyses. Then, after Cambyses came Smerdis, who was an imposter. Then the third was Darius Hystaspes. According to what we read in Daniel 11:2, we have that as historic fact.
In Daniel 11:2 it says that the fourth shall be far richer than they all. In the Persian Empire the fourth one after Cyrus was Xerxes. Xerxes indeed, as we know from history, was conspicuous. He was so wealthy that he could raise up a very large army. Herodotus, who was a historian who lived in that very age, wrote of the army that Xerxes had financial ability to raise. It says that “by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.” By this time Grecia was coming into the scene, and Xerxes by his great wealth raised this huge army. Herodotus said they numbered 5,283,220. With this army was also included another army from the Carthaginians of the West. The Carthaginians added their army of 300,000 to that 5,283,000. That amounted to about 5,5 million soldiers. This is the wording of Herodotus. Xerxes was the last Persian king that invaded Greece, as the Scriptures say – he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia. That huge invasion, that conquering and invading of Greece, remained in the Grecian memory. It stirred them. After Xerxes there were nine successors in the Persian Empire, but the Greeks never forgot the wound that Xerxes had applied to them. In verse 3 we see the development that happens after these nine successors in the Persian Empire.
Alexander the Great
Daniel 11:3 And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.
In that one text lies the rising up of Alexander the Great. Alexander’s conquests were detailed in the prophetic study of Daniel 8:8-22. There is the symbolic picture of that leopard-like beast which had four heads. Alexander was that great king that launched out the Grecian Empire in conquering the Persian Empire. As it says, he was a mighty king and he stood up, and ruled with great dominion, and did according to his will. Notice how I referred to Daniel 8. Near the end of this study we will see how Daniel 11 links up perfectly with all the previous symbolic prophecies.
Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire. Alexander achieved his ends, he did as he pleased; and then we continue in verse 4:
Daniel 11:4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.
Alexander the Great came to the height of his power, and then he died in the drunken stupor of a high fever, and now the kingdom was divided into four sections under his four generals – toward the four winds of heaven. To the north, the south, the west, and the east. That fulfilment is found in history. In the conflict among these generals, Cassander finally took the west, which was Grecia and Macedonia. Lysimachus took the north – Thrace and Asia Minor. Seleucus took the east, which was Syria and Babylon. Finally, Ptolemy took the south, which was Egypt. This detail in that simple text reveals that the prophecy had identified the rise of the Grecian Empire over the Persian Empire, and that the generals of the split empire would take control over the Grecian Empire. However, we notice that something happened among those four generals who held those dominions within that broken up empire:
Daniel 11:5 And the king of the south shall be strong, and [one] of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion [shall be] a great dominion.
What do we notice? There is now introduced a conflict among these generals, and the conflict within the empire finally resolves itself, according to history and scripture, into two territories. It is no longer east, west, north and south, but only north and south.
The King of the South
Daniel 11:5 …the king of the south shall be strong, and [one] of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion;
Here is mentioned the king of the south. As the history has it, Ptolemy annexed Cyprus, Phoenicia, Caria, Cyrene and many of the islands and cities in Egypt. Cassander, who was the king of the west, was conquered by Lysimachus [in the north]. Finally, Lysimachus was conquered by Seleucus [in the east]. Now we have the kings of the west and of the east coming into merely the north and the south. From this point onwards there is a conflict of activity between the north and the south. We will just scan over the next few texts without going into any detail, but only to observe that the conflict between the east, west, north, and south, is now concentrating simply on the north and the south.
Daniel 11:9 So the king of the south shall come into [his] kingdom, and shall return into his own land. 10 But his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces: and [one] shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be stirred up, [even] to his fortress. 11 And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, [even] with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand.
We are just reading this now to help you see that the prophecy deals with the conflict between the south and the north, and the north and the south. It keeps on going back and forward.
Daniel 11:12 [And] when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down [many] ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened [by it]. 13 For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain years with a great army and with much riches. 14 And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south…
This prophecy, this vision, continues in the conflict between the north and the south right through to the very last days of earth’s history.
Daniel 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
Having just been given a general overview, we see in verse 40 that we are arriving at the time of the end. And at the time of the end the king of the south and the king of the north are still in the picture.
Daniel 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, [even] Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians [shall be] at his steps. 44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. 45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
When Michael Shall Stand Up
Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
The conflict between the north and the south culminates in the time when Michael will finally stand up and God’s people will be delivered. We see here a drama of political conflicts that will finally be concluded in the experience of God’s people being delivered. From this brief scan of the prophecy we observe that this is an all-comprehensive vision. It covers from the time of Persia through to the very end the political conflicts that take place to the very end. What we observe is that by the north and the south it is the territories which are being discussed here. The north and the south are territories in which different kings over that whole period of time take their positions and are conquered again, and take their positions and are conquered again. Each one is confirmed by the orchestration of Michael and Gabriel through to the point where Michael will finally stand up and there will be a final time of trouble.
We have then the Grecian Empire with its four different territories culminating into the north and the south. We are reading a literal prophecy picture. This is not the symbolic pictures of Daniel 2, 7 and 8, but a literal delineation of the political interactions of the kings of these empires. As we seek to understand that perfectly we will do a comparison of how Daniel 11:2-4 is symbolised in Daniel 8:20-22. Read these comparisons and observe: one is literal, and the other one is symbolic.
Daniel 11 Is Literal and Daniel 8 Is Symbolic
Daniel 11:2 And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia;
We read here a literal rising of one king after the other.
Daniel 11:3 And a mighty king shall stand up,
This we identified in history as Alexander. Then we see how his kingdom would be broken into the four winds of the earth:
Daniel 11:4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven;
This is a literal description. Observe the symbolic description of the same events:
Daniel 8:20 The ram which thou sawest having [two] horns [are] the kings of Media and Persia. 21 And the rough goat [is] the king of Grecia: and the great horn that [is] between his eyes [is] the first king. 22 Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
Can you see? Here is the symbol of the ram and the he-goat and the notable horn. This is the symbol which then is explained by the literal. But in Daniel 11 there was no symbol, it went straight into the literal. This is an important comparison.
Another Comparison (The Little Horn)
Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily [sacrifice], and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
This is the literal fact of what was to take place. Let us compare it with Daniel 8:11-12 where the symbol was expressed:
Daniel 8:11 Yea, he magnified [himself] even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily [sacrifice] was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. 12 And an host was given [him] against the daily [sacrifice] by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered.
This is the little horn. Can you see? The exact same historic event (the little horn) was being discussed in Daniel 8 as in Daniel 11 (the literal).
We have in Daniel 11:35 another comparison with Daniel 8:
Daniel 11:35 And [some] of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make [them] white, [even] to the time of the end: because [it is] yet for a time appointed.
To understand those who are discussed here in this literal Bible prophecy we compare it with Daniel 8:13-14, for here is the time of the end:
Daniel 8:13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily [sacrifice],
Sacrifice is a supplied word.
Daniel 8:13 …How long [shall be] the vision [concerning] the daily, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
This is the description of what we read in Daniel 11:35. There would be a daily [pagan Rome] and an abomination making desolate [papal Rome], and those of understanding [the Protestants during the period of papal persecution] would be tried, and purged, and made white, even to the time of the end.
Daniel 8:17 So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end [shall be] the vision.
As we have read, there is a time of the end which is the time until which (and when) the people would be tried, and made white and pure. “At the time of the end shall be the vision.” [the Protestants were tried, and so would be God’s people in the time of the end, and especially from 1844 when the investigative judgment would take place]
Daniel 8:19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end [shall be].
In the symbolic representation of the little horn and the interpretation of that little horn vision and the 2300 day prophecy, there is an indication of the time of the end. That is what Daniel 11:35 was identifying – it is yet for a time appointed. That is where the vision of Daniel 11 finally culminates where, at the very time of the end, Michael shall stand up. Chapter 12 is the description of that.
In our overview we are getting a very clear understanding that Daniel 11 is non-symbolic and that it is a vision that embraces all the visions of Daniel 2, 7 and 8. This is why this particular segment of our study of Daniel 11 is entitled as the all-comprehensive vision. It is a vision that enlarges and manifests all the visions that have been given beforehand, and takes us right through to the very end, which we read in Daniel 12:4:
Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, [even] to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. … 10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried;
This all links up with the things that we have been reading.
Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
The book of Daniel was to be closed up and sealed to the time of the end. The all-comprehensive vision of Daniel 11, which includes chapters 10 and 12, is the vision that identifies that all that Daniel had written of before is to be closed till the time of the end. This vast, all-comprehensive vision embraces the entire book of Daniel – Daniel 2, where Daniel marveled; Daniel 4, where Nebuchadnezzar acknowledges that God is the one that sets up kings and pulls them down; Daniel 5, when Belshazzar was revealed by the writing on the wall; and Daniel 6 where Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den. All those events are all embraced under one huge and vast spectrum of prophetic vision that takes us right through to the very coming of Jesus.
Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
They That Be Wise
That is exactly what God’s people are going through throughout all these political problems. It says of God’s people:
Daniel 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
In this political arena, while Jesus – Michael – and Gabriel are interacting with the politics of the world, there will be wise people who study these prophecies, and who will understand what is going on. I ask the question here, Who are the wise that are mentioned here? Did Jesus, the one who orchestrates all this, identify it in His own representations when He was here on earth? Observe in Matthew 24 what He says in reference to those who will be wise and who will understand, and those who are wicked and will not understand. We have been looking at the king of the north and the king of the south and its all-comprehensive drama, and God’s people must understand how they relate to these things. Jesus is speaking and He says:
Matthew 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Jesus says, Watch, because you don’t know the exact hour of My coming; but if you will watch, if you will study carefully the manifestation of Myself in prophecy, this is when the day star will arise in your hearts. This is the importance of this study. Watch!
Matthew 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
At such an important time,
Matthew 24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
Meat in due season – the right kind of information at the right time.
The Faithful and the Unfaithful Servant
Matthew 24:46 Blessed [is] that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
Here is the servant that is called a wise servant. Remember what Daniel 12:10 said? The wise will understand, and the wicked will not. Here Jesus is making a direct reference to the events of the prophecy that comprehends the final scenes – Daniel 11. He says, The wise will understand. A wise servant will give the right information at the right time to help the people to watch and be ready. But He also says:
Matthew 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite [his] fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for [him], and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint [him] his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Observe that the wicked will not understand. There is an evil servant interacting with the wise servant. And in their interaction one is going to be destroyed with the wicked, because they (this class of evil servants) were not aware of what the truth of Daniel 11 was unveiling to them. They were not wise. They could not see. But the other ones that were giving the right information could see exactly. They were watching and they could see the events of the world’s history and the political dramas pointing to Michael standing up at the right time. It says in Daniel 11 that the king of the north will come to his end, and none shall help him, and that then Michael shall stand up. The people who know who the king of the north is, will recognise that at the time when he comes to his end Michael, who stood for His people, shall stand up, and that there will then come this great time of trouble. They will not be caught unawares, they will be wise, they will understand. The parable of Matthew chapter 25 is then a continuation of Matthew 24. Matthew 25 identifies two classes of people, like the two classes of ministers.
The Parable of the Ten Virgins
Matthew 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five [were] foolish.
Here is the outline of the wise who will understand and the foolish who will not. The wise servant versus the evil servant who is influencing the people of the church. There are wise ones who will have the Holy Spirit and who will understand; and the ones who are foolish and who do not have enough of the Holy Spirit, the oil, in their lamps, will be left out. The understanding of Daniel 11 is crucial. It is absolutely imperative that this be understood if we will come to the end of time and be wise people, wise servants, and wise virgins.
A Conclusive Comparison between Daniel and Revelation
Let us make a very conclusive comparison between Daniel 12:6-9 and Revelation 10 in reference to the last days, so that we can see vividly how important this all-comprehensive vision of Daniel 11 actually is. Follow carefully how Daniel 12 is rendered, and then pick it up again in Revelation 10.
Daniel 12:6 And [one] said to the man clothed in linen, which [was] upon the waters of the river, How long [shall it be to] the end of these wonders?
We are dealing here in chap. 12 with the Daniel 11 vision. There comes the question, How long is this comprehensive vision meant to be going on for?
Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which [was] upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that [it shall be] for a time, times, and an half;
This is the time prophecy of the 1260 years. Time, times and an half.
Daniel 12:7 …and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these [things] shall be finished. 8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what [shall be] the end of these [things]? 9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
1260 years culminate in the time of the end. The language of this is mirrored perfectly in Revelation 10. It said there, How long will these things be? and Daniel said, I don’t understand. Then Gabriel says, Don’t worry, this book, the understanding of this, is sealed until the time of the end. Mark now the language of Revelation 10 mirrored exactly as we read before. The angel is announcing there shall be time no longer:
Revelation 10:1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow [was] upon his head, and his face [was] as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: 2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and [his] left [foot] on the earth,
Isn’t that what the other angel did in the book of Daniel?
Revelation 10:3 And cried with a loud voice, as [when] a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. … 5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, 6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
Isn’t that what we read in Daniel 12? He is the angel that is now identifying with the angel of Daniel 12, and he is saying, Look, I’ve got a book open in my hand. We see a clear connection here. The all-comprehensive vision of Daniel 11, which comprehends all the visions before it, is now to be opened. We can recognise that it is the book of Daniel because Daniel 12:6-9 is the mirror, or the foundation of the mirror, of Revelation 10. It’s exactly the same angel doing the exact same thing, and saying that there should be time no longer. The angel in Daniel chapter 12 actually mentions that it should be for a time, times, and an half. This is mentioned many times in the book of Revelation. Here is the picture of this all-comprehensive vision. Daniel 11 gives us the detail, without symbolism, of the political events that take us right through to the very close of human probation, the introduction to the time of trouble and to political conflicts that mark the conclusion of this earth’s history and that mark the work of Michael and His angel Gabriel that will finally interact with the politics of the world according to Revelation when the nations will finally be destroyed. Daniel 11 is the developmental revelation of this. That’s what makes this study so interesting and so imperative for the people that are living in these last days.
By the correct understanding of Daniel 11 we will be able to see clearly and precisely where we stand and we may be among the wise who shall not end up as the foolish and as the evil servant that will be destroyed with the hypocrites. This concludes this segment of our study of Daniel 11. We can come to a clear conclusion that the king of the north and the king of the south are not symbolic, but are literal kingdoms and political interactions in the territories that were established at the commencement of Daniel 11 – the territories of the splitting up of the Grecian empire and its culmination in the north and the south, running right through the history in the activities of these territories by which we can see, Yes, here is the fulfilment in front of us today. May God add His blessing to this comprehension so that, as we march forward into the remainder of these studies, we will see precisely the detail and not make any mistakes. May we ponder upon it and find our way through the poor understanding of these things which is, sadly, the reality at this moment of earth’s history.
