The Serpent on the Pole

Audio: mp3

John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all [men] unto me.

There is a principle of teaching and it is repeat and enlarge. As we have been through the studies so far, it is really saying the same thing in a different way. If you think about the first study the Passover lamb, the introduction was the whole salvation plan. It is an example of a type to Canaan. If you look at the lamb and the Passover, that in itself is a type of salvation.

A ‘Type’ of Salvation

Coming out of Egypt is a type of salvation. The manna, the bread from heaven is a type of salvation. The crossing of the red sea is a type of salvation. God says he will cast our sins into the depths of the sea. We studied that Pharoah was plunged into the sea. We studied the restoration of the Sabbath and the Sabbath in itself is a symbol of the rest of heaven, of salvation. The rock that followed them was salvation. The Hebrews were sent into the wilderness to travel for forty years to purge out the rebels. Isn’t that a type of salvation? In this study, the experience of the fiery serpents is salvation. We are repeating and enlarging the subject. We are bringing out of the house both things new and old. There is an old the truth in a new setting and symbolism. Every one of these segments reveals a different angle of looking at salvation because when we stud the Lamb of God we look at it from that point but when you are talking about the serpent on the pole, there is a big diff between the serpent and the lamb correct? Yet both represent the same thing.

One is looking from one point and the other is looking from another point. There are four gospels that are saying the same thing but they look at it from different angles. Some of them apparently you can almost say would contradict each other but it’s not a contradiction it’s the way they look at it and it’s truth. This is how we are going through our study to look at the serpent you will hear things again that you’ve already heard but it’s just to re-embed the lesson. Just like we do with our children. How many times do the children go through their alphabet? Especially when they start singing it. It is really monotonous but at the end of the day do they learn their alphabet? They do and God is doing the same with us. repeating and repeating so that by the grace of God at the end of the day we have learnt our lesson. Israel didn’t learn the lesson of salvation just in the passover. They had to learn it in all the aspects so when they came to the promised land they could enter in.

Murmuring

The people buried Aaron at mount Hor and when they had buried Aaron the people mourned for thirty days but you find in a few chapters before they were murmuring against him. Isn’t it strange when someone is alive we have allot to say about them in the negative but as soon as they are dead we have to allot to say in the positive and that is a real shame. Mary Magdalene had an ointment to anoint the dead and she came while Jesus was alive she poured the alabaster box and anointed him. Isn’t it better to anoint our brothers and sisters with kindness and love while we are alive? When it was the funeral of Aaron how many people were there? Two. That’s all. This is a good lesson for us.

Numbers 21:4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. 5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for [there is] no bread, neither [is there any] water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. 6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. 7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. 8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. 9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

The Lord Sent Among them Fiery Serpents

We can conclude that a little hard for God to do that. That they had been complaint and he sent all these things to bite them but if we compare scripture with scripture we find out that the wording here can be understood in a slightly different manner.

Deuteronomy 8:4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years. 5 Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, [wherein were] fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where [there was] no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

In the wilderness what was there? Serpents were there. What else? Scorpions were there. There was no water there but God brought water. We find in the wording ‘God sent serpents among them’ the fact that the serpents were already there except that God’s providence was keeping them away. Murmuring takes away God’s protection. They were heading towards the red sea again and that was probably the last place they wanted to go back to and this really discouraged them. This discouragement turned into a purpose for complaining. They didn’t like the way God had. They wanted their own way, they quarrelled about Gods way.

Ishmael and Hagar

This is great folly of ours that we would not be content with the Lords way but our own way. When God makes a promise and we can’t see it being fulfilled and try our own way, we get the Ishmael and Hagar experience. God promised Abraham he would give him a son. Abraham couldn’t see it and thought I will do it my way. How much trouble is the world in because of that child? Ishmael. This is the way of man, it brings so much sorrow. The second thing they complained about was they loathed this light bread in fact they said there is no bread. They said there is no bread and we loathe this light bread. They had looked at it like such a loathsome thing they didn’t refer to it as bread anymore. Along the way of the Christian life there comes a time when I’ve heard all the gospel before.

I’ve gone through all the books of the bible, I’ve gone through all the stories, I’ve heard all these sermons and I need food. This happens at a time of extended Christian experience. When did the fiery serpents come? At the beginning or the end? At the end and it’s at the end that you get tired and weary of the message. We go through the message especially when we are repeating and enlarging. You could be tired of hearing again of more points heard before.

This Light Bread

Will you loathe this bread? Will you say oh I’ve already heard that, you are repeating yourself. They loathed this bread. People can become gospel hardened. Even minister’s children, they know the stories and by the time they become teenagers they know it all. This is what happened to the children of Israel. They loathed this light bread. They called it light bread. It’s almost how it reads, we loathe this light bread. It’s almost a mockery of what it is almost to say that light bread is unsubstantial for me, it is light, it’s just something that’s fluffy there is nothing to it. That was the unconscious thing that came across when I read this, this light bread. They really wanted some heavy food that would heat up their blood and cause disease. Flesh is extremely heavy. That is what they did. They fell a lusting for the flesh pots of Egypt.

The Flesh of Carnal Reason

They wanted the flesh meats of carnal reason. They wanted their own experience. They wanted to eat the leeks and the garlic’s as perhaps that was like gossip, that’s real meat to gossip about people. To consume other people and their reputation. They were longing for the leeks and the garlic’s. Even the cucumbers of suspicion and conjecture. They didn’t want what God had given them – the Word, the bread. They said this is light.  People have often come to the gospel and there are many critics of the bible and will go into their philosophy. People are looking for something deeper than the divine. They are looking for something profound than the infinite. They are looking for something more liberal than free grace. There is nothing that the human can consume that is better than the manna, the angel’s food. There is nothing better than that but yet they ridiculed it.

They Murmured

They wanted heavy meat and we know that meat poisons the blood. They got poisoned blood alright because when we murmur it is like a prayer. When Jesus was being crucified, what did the crowd cry? His blood be on us and on our children’s children. What happened to Jerusalem in AD 70? When they made this complaint about Jesus and said get rid of him, that cry, that murmur, that complaint was a prayer. We must consider when we get weary of the good and we start to make some complaints to God that we would fear saying such things lest he actually gave them to us. They got what they wanted. They got their poisoned blood. The serpents of sin, lust and pride came and bit them. This murmuring brings in the snakes. It stops Gods protection and brings in those things that would harm you anyway.

The Serpents Bit Them

What sort of serpent was it? The word says fiery. It can either be the colour of the serpent or what it felt like when bitten. I believe it was probably the latter rather the former or both. When they were bitten by this fiery poison it put them in a mortal state. Murmuring brings a mortal wound. Complain and God takes his protection. God removed allot of protection from Job except for his life and how much was destroyed? Everything but what was protected. If God takes protection from your life what would Satan do first? He would kill you. The fact we are here is the fact we have travelled so far together. Let us praise the Lord that he has brought us here safely. It is a temptation to murmur. When the car broke down on the way here I felt like grumbling and in my heart I did and then I realised as I studied Lord forgive me because I was tired and frustrated with the vehicle that broke down. The Lord can forgive, this is the whole lesson. You can be bitten but if we would look to Jesus he can save us. When the snake bites it puts it’s fangs through your flesh and at the end of the fangs it injects poison. This poison what is it? The bible tells us.

Who is the Serpent?

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

This injection from the fangs of the serpent injects what into us? We know it’s poison but what is it?

John 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.

What is this poison? When poison comes into something there is a reaction because of the poison. When it says that you are of the father the devil and his lusts you will do, what is the poison? It is lust. Again we are repeating ourselves, it is the flesh. The serpent has injected the lusts of the eyes, the pride of life and the lust of the flesh. Even at the time of Eve, the serpent was more subtle than any creature and he came to eve. Lust is the poison and the action is the symptom. Correct? What the Pharisees were doing was because of lust. The lust ye will do it. There is the lust and there is an action. We have the poison and the symptom.

As In the Natural so in the Spiritual

I would like to take the natural again as there are many lessons we can learn from the natural. I decided to look up what happens when bitten by a copperhead serpent. I chose the copperhead serpent because of it’s name because perhaps that was the colour of this serpent. I found five symptoms. I was amazed when I looked at these symptoms because the natural speaks of the spiritual.

The Copperhead Serpent

When this copperhead snake bites one the main symptoms is a neurological disorder. We can say hallucinating because that is what it is as when the poison comes in you hallucinate and you see things that aren’t there and you hear things that aren’t there and you start getting really confused in your mind. The serpent came to Eve and he beguiled her.

Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make [one] wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Was that tree good for food for them? No. But when she saw that, it was good for food. Here is an hallucinating experience. When Satan beguiled her she saw something that wasn’t even real. She saw this fruit on this tree could make her wise. Could that fruit make her wise? No. Quite the opposite. This is what really happened when the serpent bit Eve.

The First Symptom

When the serpent bites us, you will find in the third chapter of the first book of the bible a hallucinating experience from Eve. When you look at the third chapter of the last book of the bible, the hallucinating experience is still there. You think you are rich and increased with goods with need of nothing but really you are miserable poor blind and naked. You are hallucinating. From Genesis to Revelation this condition of being bitten by the serpent exists amongst us. We look and say I’m ok – you are not. You don’t know. You have a neurological disorder is what God is saying. Your brain is not functioning correctly.  That is the first symptom. Mark this, this is a symptom of being bitten. You can consider yourselves seeing things that aren’t true. Perhaps you should ask someone else as they will tell you. A neurological disorder can only be diagnosed by another person. You can never diagnose your own neurological disorder. Go to Jesus and ask him do I see right? He will tell you. No you don’t. Then admit to that. Don’t say ok now I do, say ok Lord I don’t. Help thou my unbelief.

The Second Symptom

The second symptom of being bitten literally by a copper head serpent is paralysis. What is paralysis? You can’t move. When do you realise you can’t move? When you want to move. If God says to do something and you can’t do it, what are you? Paralysed. The foolish man was likened to a person who heard God’s word and did it not. What was wrong with the foolish man? He was paralysed. He heard it and then he didn’t do it. He couldn’t. That is paralysis. If we hear God’s word and his commandments and his love and we can’t do it, what do we have to admit to? We are paralysed. If we aren’t following Jesus Christ, then we must be still lying down in our bed. We must be paralysed if we are not following his footsteps.  All these things are spiritual lessons for us in the physical because when you do get bitten by the snake you get paralysed.

The Third Symptom

The third symptom of being bitten by a copper head serpent is incolagulatable blood. It means when the serpent bites you can’t stop bleeding because that poison stops your blood from coagulating. It stops your blood from sticking together. You will bleed and bleed until your body will die. So it is with the Christian, when Satan bites us can you endeavour to keep the unity in the bond of peace? Can you be at peace with everybody when you’ve been bitten by the serpent? Blood in the body when there is a problem sticks together. It coagulates against the wound to stop all the other blood coming out and it heals and makes a scab and under that scab the healing takes place and the scab falls off and the body has restored itself. The blood needs a unity. It needs a bond to hold it together. In the Christian walk the bible says endeavour to keep the unity in the bond of peace. Endeavour it means it’s reasonably difficult to stick together. A house that is divided against itself cannot stand. Do you think a body that can’t coagulating blood can stand? It can’t and neither can a church when the members can’t stick together when the members are all repelling each other. This is a symptom when you have been bitten by the serpent because you can’t get along with anybody as you can’t find unity in the church of God.

The Fourth Symptom

The fourth symptom of being bitten by a copper head serpent is renal failure. Renal failure is the failing of the kidney when the kidney can’t do it’s job anymore. What does a kidney do in the body? It filters the blood, takes the impurities and the poisons and the things that don’t need to be there and expels it. It’s the same within our own body. Even the kingdom of heaven is like a net that caught all the fish and then the person had to gather the good and throw out the bad. In our personal life the bible says casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and brining into captivity. Every thought to the obedience of Christ to gather the bad thoughts in your mind and take them and cast them out. The ability to filter your thoughts, the ability to filter the church, the truth as the pure word filters the church. It’s the separating between the wheat and the tares. it’s the sieve. That is what the kidney is, it is a sieve. When Satan bites you on a personal level you cannot work out which are bad and good thoughts. You just take whatever comes. You have spiritual renal failure. Your spiritual kidneys break down. The kidneys in the church can break down. The word of God isn’t presented in it’s power anymore and therefore you get all these impurities coming in because the smooth sayings are there. This is symptom of being bitten.

The Fifth Symptom

The last symptom is raptomilysis. It’s when your muscles break down. It’s when the structure muscles, not just the fine muscles it’s the structural skeleton muscles start breaking apart. What happens when your muscles don’t work? What do you feel like? You feel a little weak don’t you? The bible says we are to strengthen the hands that hang down and the feeble knees, the weak people that have been bitten by the snake. When we get spiritually tired and we just want to lie down and sleep but when we lie down and sleep with this disease we lie to sleep never to awake. It’s death. These are the symptoms. When you go to your doctor, does your doctor treat the root problem or your symptoms? What does your doctor do? Your doctor treats your symptoms. He might give you some drug to bring your blood back together and so you have the poison of the serpent and then you have this other chemical that’s trying to counteract it. Or perhaps he will give you some drugs to help your neurological pathways to try and find the right way again. You take these drugs to either suppress or stimulate certain parts of the brain. That’s what the doctors of the world do but not Jesus. He doesn’t do that. We have some symptoms. You can’t think straight, you can’t obey, you can’t have unity, you can’t control your thoughts and you feel weak and faint all from murmuring. Did you know all that comes from murmuring? When you murmur you can’t think straight. Oh you have come to destroy us in the wilderness. Is that straight thinking? It’s not straight thinking. Was there unity when they were murmuring against Moses their leader? Could they obey when they had that mindset of we are going to die if we do this? They couldn’t obey him. They couldn’t think straight, they couldn’t have unity, they couldn’t control their thoughts and they were weary. They were discouraged because of the way and they loathed this bread, there was no water and they were weak and God sent these serpents to bite them. It is fascinating that being bitten by a copperhead serpent parallels so well with the fact of Numbers 21.

Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

21:7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

The Ministry

What causes the symptom? The poison. What causes these spiritual ailments that we have just mentioned? Lust. This is a question for you to think about. Does the ministry deal with the root problem or does it deal with the symptoms? Perhaps there is a lack of unity in a certain field. Do they try by a human way try and stick everything together with some drug? Do they try and do that? If there is some problem of your brain, do they try neurolinguistic programming to get you to think straight? Is there a little bit of psychology used by some ministries today? When you have to obey and are paralysed are there some ministries who say it’s ok you can all be paralysed, you don’t have to obey. Are there some ministries that teach this? This is for you ask yourself. Does the ministry just deal with the symptom and say it’s ok you can lie in your bed. Does the ministry say as long as you don’t do the outward sin, you can’t control your thoughts and feelings as long as outwardly you are ok and they excuse the kidney failure as long you are ok. You can have all the poison in your blood you like, it doesn’t matter. Kidneys don’t need to work in the church. Or they might say we can have lots of people come into the church we just won’t do the straight truth. We will alter the truth to make it pleasing to the ear and there is no filtering in the church anymore. This parallel of the physicians of today and the ministers of today are very similar. Every good tree brings forth good fruit and every evil tree brings forth evil fruit. A good tree can’t bring forth good fruit and a evil tree can’t bring forth good fruit therefore by your fruit’s ye shall them. By their fruit’s you will know what is in the blood stream. By the symptom you will know the poison that has happened. Our Jesus he comes and says if there is any tree that doesn’t bring good truth he will cut it down and it cast it into the fire. It will be plucked up by the roots and thrown into the fire. Our Jesus deals with which part of the problem? The symptom or the poison? He deals with the poison. This is what it is all about, this study.

The Solution to the Symptom

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Is that a symptom to be faint and weary no muscles? What do you do to fix the problem? Look to Jesus. What did the Israelites do? What did Moses do? He put a serpent on the pole and everyone had to look to the serpent. What was Israel looking at? The Jews didn’t’ understand it. many didn’t believe it did anything, looking to the serpent and today the belief is the same. Looking to the serpent? People say I don’t want to look to a serpent I want to look to Jesus. What did Israel look at? Was it a dead serpent? Was it alive? It was dead. It was positively dead. What do you see when you look at the cross? A dead human. Do you see a dead God? Or a dead human? What do you see on the cross? You see a dead human.  This enmity, this poison is in our flesh. What do you see on the cross? Dead human flesh. Praise the Lord it’s dead.  The Israelites were being bitten by the serpents. Do you think they liked these serpents? Do you think they had some appreciation for these serpents? They utterly hated these serpents. It caused them to repent. They went to Moses and said get rid of these. We have whinged, we acknowledge straight away what the problem is, these serpents are a major problem to us, we despise them and then they look and they see a dead serpent, praise the Lord, it’s dead. That’s what we see on the cross. A dead human. The sinful flesh of a human.

Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Jesus Christ came in sinful flesh and he condemned that sin in that flesh.

Ephesians 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us];

Does that sound like unity? You will find in this scripture it’s actually the unity between Jews and Gentiles. Did they like each other? No. Circumcision verses the uncircumcision.

Ephesians 2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us];

We are separated from God because of our sins correct? Your sins have separated you from God. This serpent bite has separated us from the living to the dead. The scripture says and much of the people of Israel died. This was a deadly thing to separate you from life. God has broken down this middle wall of partition. He hasn’t dealt with the symptom he has broken down the problem;

Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, [so] making peace;

He Has Broken Down The Enmity

This enmity, rebellion and blackness he abolished. He destroyed in his flesh. When we see Jesus on the cross, we are looking at abolished flesh. A wall of partition that is broken down and that has died. God didn’t die at the cross, sinful humanity died at the cross. Jesus did this.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Jesus was made sin. Jesus was made into this state so we could live if we would look. Jesus abolished the lust of the flesh. He condemned it in himself. He took our sins. Where have you put your sins? When you confess your sins, where have you taken them to? Jesus. That’s where your sins have gone – into Jesus. Peter says who in his own body bore our sins. In his body. Not just the load on his back but in his flesh. This is amazing.

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

The lowest you could ever go. What is the lowest of all creatures in the earth? It is the snake on it’s belly. It is not even one inch off the ground. It is positively on the ground. You can’t go any lower than that and it’s dead.  Some people say well like us but not exactly us. This verse makes the mystery of Godliness so clear. Listen to the concrete evidence.

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

How many more times can you reiterate it? He himself also took part of the same. it’s like they didn’t have to say that many words but they did to get it really home strongly that he also himself likewise took part of the same that through death. What do we see on the cross? Death. That through death he might destroy him. Who was destroyed at the cross? That old serpent The devil. If you lift up the serpent on the pole and look at this dead serpent, he will give you life.

Hebrews 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Do you think if you got bitten by a snake you would be scared of death? Just the fear makes you die quicker. They say if you get bitten by a snake you are meant to be calm and don’t let the blood start pumping around quick but the fact is when Satan bites us we get this fear and this fear makes it worse. We were in fear but Jesus Christ took this enmity into his flesh and he took it to the cross and he abolished it and destroyed the devil that we would be delivered from the poison in our blood. That we would be delivered from the lust that bubbles through our veins. Jesus will not just remove the symptoms, Jesus removes the poison. Our Jesus removes the poison. Other people worship another Jesus that only does the symptoms but our Jesus removes the lust.

Complete Salvation from Sin

Would the symptoms be cured if you got rid of the root? If you got the rid of the poison, would the symptoms cure themselves? He doesn’t just get rid of the poison he gets rid of the symptoms and the poison. That is complete salvation.

  • We can think straight only in Jesus Christ.
  • We can have our neurological pathways corrected through Jesus Christ.
  • We can break habits through Jesus Christ.
  • We can obey, we can arise, take up our bed and walk through Jesus Christ.
  • We can obey the law through Jesus Christ.

We don’t have to be paralysed. We can follow him and become fishers of men. We can take up our cross and follow him.

  • We can have unity in Jesus Christ, real unity.

This world has major problems with unity. Racism when different races can’t get along. There is neither Jew or Greek, bond or free, woman or man in Jesus Christ, we are one. A new creature, citizens of the heavenly kingdom, countrymen of the divine country. We are one. Our blood can coagulate. We can stick together and heal the wounds that Satan has tried to make for us. This is what Jesus offers, there is unity in Jesus Christ. If we all met in Jesus we could never fight. Can the Jesus in one person fight with the Jesus in the other? Oh no. If two people are fighting Jesus isn’t there because Jesus and Jesus do not fight. There is unity in Jesus Christ. There is mind control in Jesus Christ that you can cast down the imaginations in Jesus Christ. You can bring your imagination into subjection to God’s word. You can overcome these symptoms when the poison is gone.

The Blood

The life is in the blood and when Jesus life is in our blood, we can control how we think. When an evil thought comes we can cast it out like the bad fish are cast from the net. We can be strong in Jesus Christ. not by might nor by power but by my spirit saith the Lord. There is a power in Jesus Christ that will tread on serpents and upon scorpions and nothing will harm you. Nothing can you separate you from the love of God. There is a strength where you can meet persecution you can have the clothes ripped off your back, you can become defamed, you can become the filth of the earth and you are still strong in spirit. You can be put in prison like John the Baptist and be tormented with devils like John the Baptist was and have no one visit you ever, ever and still be strong in Jesus Christ. You can be alone all your life and no one will you visit you and you can still be strong in Jesus Christ. You can go through relationship problems and still be strong in Jesus Christ.

No One Can Look For You

There is one more lesson in this that I’d like to draw out, there are many lessons. No one could look for somebody else. It says that if the person who was dying if they looked they would be made whole and live. We can preach, we can share the word of God but it’s up to you to look at Jesus. When you are suffering the lack of unity where your blood is just runny and you have no ability to stick together with the people around you, you must look to Jesus. Not me, not anybody else for you, not your wife, children, you must look yourself to Jesus. When you are paralysed on your bed because of discouragement, when you feel like you have no strength, you must take your bible and look to Jesus yourself. If you find yourself that you cannot obey and you see the law as some burden, you must look to Jesus. When you can’t think straight anymore and everything is a mental twist where you have had sufferings and everything is going wrong and people are forsaking you and everything goes haywire and your brain cramps up and you have the neurological glitch, look to Jesus yourself. You have to literally hop out of your tent and you have to walk into a position where you can see the dead serpent. This is the challenge. as per the first point mentioned that in Jesus time he said how shall I liken this generation? They are like when the pipers piped and they don’t dance, or when the mourners mourn they don’t lament. So I pray this message of the serpent will not just make you not look but will make a reaction in you just like the pipe is made to make somebody dance. Just like the lamenting and the mourning is to make someone else lament also. This word of God is to be in you livingly. It can’t come from anybody else. You have to take it and you have to look to Jesus the author and finisher of your faith.

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

You must consider him lest you be weary and faint in your minds. This is the challenge. Look and live if you will.

Amen.
