The Ubiquitous Seed

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

This scripture does not say in the beginning the Word was created, it says in the beginning was the Word. He was there and all things were made by him.

The Word

What occupation does he have? Everything was made by him and nothing was made that wasn’t made by him. When we study the parables of Jesus Christ who is the Word, we are studying the sayings of him who creates everything. We are not just listening to a Nazarene just telling some stories that he came up with him, we are listening to parables that come from the person that created all things. If he created all things then he can understand all things and can speak all things. We are looking at what the creator is saying about the kingdom of heaven. What the Word of God who made all wants to explain and he chooses it in a parable. There is only a small amount of material in the parables and we must consider who is talking. A parable is spoken of in regard to creation.

Luke 8:5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. 6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. 8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God and this is the parable that the seed is the Word of God. When we look at this seed in this parable it is exactly what he says it is – -the Word of God. That which was in the beginning, that which made all things, there was nothing made that wasn’t made by him and he is the seed.

Did God Become A Seed?

He that hath ears let him hear. I find this incredible that the seed is the Word of God. It is not just the written page that we read it is the Word of God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

Jesus Was Before

Who is older John or Jesus? John was older and he says he was before me, the Word.

John 1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

His fulness we have all received. What fulness did the Word of God have?

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

The seed is the Word of God and this Word of God has this fulness of the Godhead inside and we have received it. The Word of God became a seed. Inside a seed of a plant, in the centre is an embryo. That embryo is the actual plant. Then there is the endosperm which is the nutrients and then a cover or a case that we see. If you have an avocado and you take that seed you see a brown case. If you split it you see the endosperm the nutrients and then inside is the embryo. That is a seed. The seed is the Word of God and in him dwelt the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Here is the time where Mary had conceived the Word by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost. This holy thing, the embryo which shall be born is the Son of God – God’s son. If I was to ask you a question who is your father? I know who my father is, I received punishment from him and good things, I know who he is. Who was Jesus Father literally? God was his father. Joseph wasn’t his father, God was his father and Mary was his mother. The Word became flesh, a seed and dwelt among us. This is truly a mystery that is too deep for our human minds to grasp the full understanding of how that happened but it did happen. The Word which made all things, who was in the beginning with God and was God became an embryo.

The Sower

As he grew he tells a parable about a sower with his seed and he declares that the seed is the Word of God. As John says we have received that seed. Is that the case in the parable? Was that seed spread to the sons of men on this planet? Yes. The ground was the hearts of men and the sower went out and threw the seed and it landed in the ground and he said you have received the fulness.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:

He that receives the Word is given power to become the sons of God. The seed is the Word of God and it has been placed into you and me. What have you done with it? What has happened to that seed? As many as received him. How do we receive the Word? How do you receive Words? Through your ears. He says the seed is the Word and he hat has an ear let him hear because faith comes by hearing and hearing by what? The Word of God. When you hear the Word of God, what is going into your ear?

The Seed

The seed is going into your ear.

Mark 4:9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

In another place Jesus is speaking and he says this Word will go down into your ears. It sounds like a seed going down into the ground. The Word of God being preached and presented and displayed before your ears is to go into your ears but take heed as to how it goes in. Take heed to your hearing because the parables were given so they would hear and hear not and see and see not. There is something to hear and not just to hear. Something has to go deep inside your ear and that is the seed, the Word of God. That seed of God which he became and now this fulness is given to us, this mystery, Christ in you the hope of glory. The seed is the only hope of any glory, the only hope of having eternal life and the only hope on this planet. Without this seed the flesh cannot be born again but only by God.

Mark 4:26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; 27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. 28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. 29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

A lot of time, stress and energy has been gone into understand how to be saved, how to do the right thing and overcome the wrong thing and to make bad habits and to make good habits. The science of Christianity has been studied but it comes back to the seed. The person preaching the creator who made the seed is the Word of God. He understands the seed in all its depths. This illustration is a living reality. It’s one of the first major parables he gave, the parable of the sower. After he gave this parable he scratched his head and said how can I liken the kingdom of heaven? He used the illustration of the seed because that is exactly what it is.

Matthew 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

Hear It

He says he that has ears to hear, let him hear. This word ‘let’ which is the one of the foundation words in his sentence. If you have ears, let them hear. If you couldn’t hear because you have some ear plugs in your ears, and you had ears and someone said hear what would you do? Take your ear plugs out. Let your ears do what they are meant to do. Then he goes into the illustration of the seed and this parable that he gives runs on the same principle of letting your ears hear.

Matthew 13:19 When any one heareth the Word of the kingdom, and understandeth [it] not, then cometh the wicked [one], and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

The sower threw the seed and some of it landed on the path and as soon as it landed on the path it was trodden under foot and the birds came and took it away. Did it germinate?  Did the fulness of that seed become known?  Did that seed come to fruition?  It didn’t.  Why?  What was it?  Because they didn’t understand.  Have you ever not understood something and thought it too hard?  What you don’t understand, it was worth anything?

The Fullness of the Godhead

You go on with your life living not realising that you have the fullness of the Godhead bodily in your ear and that was it because that ear didn’t hear.  It didn’t go down through the ear into the brain where the soil is because of a lack of understanding.

Matthew 13:20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the Word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the Word, by and by he is offended.

The difference between this seed and the last one was what?  This seed germinated correct?  It germinated.  It went in and sprung up and that seed sprung up and lived for a time.  When a seed comes it’s great because the seed comes as a full package.  It comes with a plant inside and some food and the casing can hold the moisture to activate it.  When the seed comes it just doesn’t come with the plant but the food as well.  He that received Christ to them gave power to become power to become sons of God. There is something that comes with the preaching of the Word when someone understands it. It’s not just God but the food to come out and live for a while.  Have you sprouted sprouts?

They can live on a plate for a reasonable amount of time and what you eat is all that goodness of the endosperm as it has nutrients which is life itself.  Sprouts are very healthy for us but what happens to the sprout after a period of time? The Word of God comes with the seed Jesus Christ himself and he comes into your ear and with this food of joy and gratitude and all these things that come with it.  Christians hear the Word preached and they think I love that and the energy can keep them going for a while and the energy is form God.  Many have received conversion and had the energy to do allot of things for a period of time but when trial and persecution and trouble come, then that seed is lacking something. Even amongst us there have been people who have grabbed truth and said I have not heard this before and they run with energy and that does come from God’s Word, let’s not doubt that.   But that package only comes for a certain time.  People that have once rejoiced in truth have now left.  They have withered and died.  Then there is another;

The Choked Word

Matthew 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the Word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the Word, and he becometh unfruitful.

Here is a longer stage of life.  First the reception and it hasn’t been taken away because of misunderstanding or not knowing, it has come and germinated and it is past this point of being just a shoot, a sprout, it has gained roots.  It starts to grow but there is something that can still choke it out.  the deceitfulness of this world and the cares and stresses of this life chokes it out.

Colossians 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

It sounds like it has roots and some body to it.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

This is speaking directly in regards to higher education when Christians become fascinated with the Word and the depth that is in there.  The science in the bible is amazing and the understanding sprouts and the joy carries on and you continue to go and you come to a point where you start to step on the side of philosophy.  There have been men in the past like AT Jones came into philosophy.

Kellogg went into that education that is so deep and thought God is the universe and each part of the universe he is creating is more of himself and he is still develops as he creation develops.  Philosophy takes over and with the theological study of the bible it is forgotten that it is actually a seed and they go into all sorts of dissecting things and it wrecks it. In this parable Jesus is giving warnings where they don’t care or understand that it doesn’t matter.  Every single human on this planet has had this seed in their ear hole. Whether it is Christianity and people saying I don’t get that or whether they were joyous for a while and thought it is too hard or got caught up in weird doctrines, this is the case Jesus is saying.

The last is only a quarter of his example was good ground where that seed is understood, it germinated and it didn’t get choked up by riches and philosophy and vain deceit.  This is exactly how to be saved.  You need to let the seed grow that’s all. To be victorious, to be able to enter into the kingdom of heaven, let your seed grow because every illustration that prevented that seed from growing was not the seeds fault, it was the heart.

The Stony Heart

God is saying as the person who is sowing I will take away your stony heart and give you a heart of flesh and break up those hard clumps of clay but we don’t let him.  Because we don’t let him then when the seed does come as it will come to every person it can’t grow as we haven’t let it grow.  If I was to say to you I would like you produce some wheat and you went and dug and ploughed and watered that field about you but it didn’t have a seed could you produce wheat?  You can’t produce wheat unless you have the seed. If you have the seed and I said I would like you to produce some wheat you have to let that seed do what it needs to do and in order for that you need to remove the rocks and pull the weeds and make sure the birds won’t get it. In Revelation it says make sure no one takes our crown, it can be taken. When we consider what this parable is teaching us, he that has ears let him hear.

Let the seed go in good ground.  What it produces is the seeds responsibility.  All you can do is take what is given to you and give it an environment` to grow in as you can’t do anything without that seed.  Our work as Christians is not to try and work out the fruits of righteousness with our own shovel and spade but is to let God move our heart.  Let God to take away the philosophy of the world and worldly education. If we let him do that and let the seed grow, it will bring forth as the parable says, 100 fold, 60 and 30 fold. The stresses that we bear are those things which choked that seed.  It is as simple as let but that let is the hardest part that we have.  We seem to have such a hard time to let God, to let go, to let it do its work but this is what the creator who was in the beginning put in the seed.

In the beginning was the Word and in the beginning that Word created the heavens and the earth and he said let us make man in our image and there was no objection.  So God created man in his image and that was the story of creation.  Let us make man in our image and there were no objections so God created man in his own image. Today let your ears hear.  Any objections?  So God will create you in his image if there are no objections because we were not able to object in the beginning.  God said let US make man in our image, the others in the Godhead did not object but agreed thus he made man in his image. May we allow the seed of the Word of God to germinate, to use that energy that he wrought for in the seed and that we would have a heart given by him to produce fruit for eternal life.
