Do You Care What You Wear?

By Paul Godfrey, Brisbane Church 2012. Audio: mp3

Does God care what you wear? Yes He does. Do you care what you wear is the question. For those who do care what they wear, I would like to recommend a book called Covered by Amy McKnight. This is a really nice book. It bounces beautifully the spiritual aspects of how we dress with the practical aspects of how we should dress and I recommend it. Also another book that I recommend to read is the book ‘Reflecting the Beauty of Holiness‘ by Christine Godfrey.

How to have a Fruitful Conclusion

By Paul Godfrey, Swan View Church 2009. How to Enter Into Love, Study 10.  Audio: mp3

I have had the privilege of studying the beautiful character traits of Jesus Christ and I hang my head in shame that they do not abound in me as much as I would like them to. Nevertheless the scripture does say to strive to enter in. The command to enter into is only for those who are without. As we look at Jesus Christ, we often feel ourselves far from His character but these are the words, strive to enter in. Enter into what? There are only two things to enter into, either a place or a state. These two things encompass everything that there is to enter in and the scripture here implies to both the state and the place.

Luke 13:24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. Read the rest of this entry

The Lord Our Righteousness

By Paul Godfrey, Swan View Church. How to Enter Into Love. Study 11. Audio: mp3

We have been unfruitful and in the investigative judgement, God is looking for things we may not have yet. To the sincere heart this may cause some discouragement so it is my purpose that we look again at how God is looking for fruit and how we get fruit.

Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and [in] all judgment;

I pray your love or fruit will be heavily on your tree.

Philippians 1:10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Read the rest of this entry

Count It All Joy When Ye Fall Into Divers Temptations

By Paul Godfrey, Brisbane Church 2011. Audio: mp3

When we come to the Lord, we’re all excited and pumped. We’re just praising the Lord every step of the way and singing our songs. Nothing can get us down anymore until something gets us down and then we get into discouragement. We want to consider when Christian excitement, the energy that we receive ebbs away and when it ebbs away, does that mean we’ve lost our experience?

Jesus gives a parable in relation to receiving the kingdom of heaven, being converted and having a spiritual experience. This parable is revealed in the type of seed, and the sowing of the seed. Matthew 13 is the explanation of the actual parable. He gave it earlier in the chapter and now He is telling what it means and He comes to this part where the seed falls upon the rocky ground.

Matthew 13:20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word of God, and anon with joy receiveth it;

13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. Read the rest of this entry

Perfect Balance

By Paul Godfrey, Brisbane Church. Audio: mp3

Jesus is coming and I believe that we all acknowledge that. It is very important that we do acknowledge Jesus is coming. But it is more important to be ready because if you a know that He’s coming, and are not ready for his coming, then that knowledge is going to profit you nothing. That’s what the Bible says. I could have all understanding, I could understand all mysteries and have faith, but if I have not love, I am nothing. The burden of the message today is how to be ready and that’s quite a broad subject. I want to talk directly about character. As we go through this time of study together, I know the Lord would desire us to examine our own characters; to look at ourselves and how we are travelling in this world.

The Sabbath of the Lord Thy God

By Paul Godfrey, Brisbane Church 2011. Audio: mp3

I have something very, very important to share with you today. It is very important because your whole life hangs upon this and our time together is not for entertainment; it is not exciting but is very important and so I pray that we can be awake.

We can read what the Lord says for us in order to inherit eternal life. What does the Lord require of you? What is the requirement?

Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Last week’s message was in regards to being balanced. It wasn’t about a bit of sin and a bit of righteousness. It was about having justice and mercy in its correct proportions. Having the right thing but having a correct outlook towards other people. This week’s subject is about what God requires of us; to walk humbly with Him. That’s what God wants. It is as simple as that. We can finish our sermon right now. To walk with Him is what He wants; nothing short of it. Read the rest of this entry

When God Gives Up

By Paul Godfrey, Brisbane Church. Audio: mp3

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. The whole point of Jesus coming to earth was to set the captives free, to set us free from bondage. We considered on Sabbath that we’ve been praying for the Holy Spirit and if we receive the Holy Spirit, then where the Spirit of the Lord is there will be freedom and liberty. Therefore we should give our fellowmen freedom and liberty and not to crowd other people’s minds with our minds and not to dominate other people’s minds but give them freedom.

Luke 9:51-56 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.

53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.

54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?

55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. Read the rest of this entry

Does God Care What You Wear?

God’s Character

How many here love God? God is a very interesting person and is there a privilege to stop our busy lives and actually get to know who God is and what sort of person He is. As we get to know Him, we admire Him for who He is and some of these traits of God that I admire is His humility. How many people here desire to be humble? Do you believe it’s a requirement to enter into heaven, yes or no?

The Lord is not greedy. God is a God of sharing and that is very evident. The fact that He
gave flowers and then gave us a nose to appreciate the smell that comes from the flower, He could have said “no, that’s all mine, I will not give anyone else the pleasures of mine”, but He equipped us to appreciate the things that He appreciates. God is not greedy, He does not covet things and if you believe that we can go to heaven if we are covetous, we cant.

We praise the Lord for His character because of what we have read in the Bible but I would like to draw your attention to a scripture in Romans 1:20. From the outset we understand a little bit of that Gods character of who He is as a person and how His mind works. Romans 1:20 says because we don’t see God, He understands we don’t see them. He knows that, so He’s made provisions for the fact that we can’t see heaven itself or the angels or we can no longer see Christ in person anymore because He is in heaven but He has made provision for the fact that we can’t see them. The Royal Wedding

By Paul Godfrey Audio: mp3

There once was a royal wedding between a prince and a woman from a middle class background. When we talk about weddings and marriages, often there is a great sense of fairy tale and ‘pie in the sky’ concept connected with marriage because many people get married and expect the best and have high hopes but when they get married, it is not exactly what they imagined marriage to be. Marriage has always had attached to it fairy tale concepts but the Bible is clear that this royal wedding is no fairy tale.

We read of a marriage between this prince and this common person in Revelation 17. Read the rest of this entry

09 How to Obtain Godliness

Paul Godfrey

In our last study we considered how to rise to the height of lowliness and we learnt a very valuable lesson that a negative feeling and feeling bad about ourselves because of our gross sins which have been revealed to us by the law, puts us in a position where grace can abound. Please Wait

Paul Godfrey

Audio: mp3

Of all the generations that have ever lived on the planet, waiting is something that our generation has not learned. We don’t like waiting. If something takes too long, we have to invent a quicker way of doing it. If the Internet connection is too slow, we have to get a faster one. We need to make everything go fast. There is a problem with that mentality. One of the attributes of God’s spirit is patience. When everything is done at the snap of a finger or quickly and on demand, when there are so many conveniences, it becomes very inconvenient to learn patience therefore, ‘Please Wait’ is the title of this study. Paul Godfrey

When you compare the righteous with the wicked, the wicked come to heaven’s door knocking expecting to come into heaven thinking the door should be open for them. The righteous look to heaven and long to enter in but in heaven no evil thing may enter yet the Lord says to the righteous, those who look to heaven conscious of their condition; “Come in.” The person may say, “Lord, no sin can enter into heaven. You are calling me to come in but as far as I understand nothing bad can go into heaven.” The Lord says, “Yes, I know that so come in.” Read the rest of this entry

To Be In the Book of Life

Paul Godfrey

Audio: mp3

How do we know if our names are written in the book of Heaven? I hope that by the end we can know whether or not our names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. There have been many people who have named the name of Christ who have started following the Lord and never finish. The Bible says that if you were to put your hand to the plough you mustn’t look back. Jesus requires of someone who follows Him, a disciple, to have his or her names written in the book of life. We can’t start building the tower and then fail to finish it. The Bible tells us to count the cost. Considered the effort that is involved to achieve Heaven. Many people consider the costs and many don’t consider the cost. Nevertheless they follow and confess Jesus Christ and their name is registered in the book of Heaven. This name can be blotted out. There is a doctrine that teaches once saved always saved but the Bible does not teach such things. We have security in Jesus Christ and while ever we yield ourselves to Him we are safe. 05 God Protects His Own

Paul Godfrey

Audio: mp3

We know the experience of Jacob. This is the testing time to see what God’s people are made of. Fire reveals the condition of the building. If it’s made from precious stone it will stand, if it’s made of wood, hay and stubble it will be gone. There is something else we need to know in these last days and that is, God protects His own. 04 Jacob’s Trouble

Paul Godfrey

Audio: mp3

Jesus is coming. The interesting thing about Jesus coming is that it will be the happiest day for some people and the worst day for others. Which would you like it to be? We want it to be the happiest. It doesn’t come by chance, it doesn’t just happen. There is a cause to every affect and if we desire for it to be a happy day, then we need to bring into consideration and into our minds eye, the requirement or the pre-requisites that are needed in order to make it a happy day. The time of Jacobs’s trouble is the test. A judgement in itself to judge what things are made from. As we go through the investigative judgement and the opening of the sins of Gods people beforehand, this is for the purpose that we would make sure that the material that is used to build our characters is able to withstand fervent heat. It has to be precious metal employed into the building of one’s character. Read the rest of this entry

03 Safe Inside

Paul Godfrey

Audio: mp3

You are and I am a whole lot of decisions we have made in the past. What you have done when you were a child and teenager has impacted on who you are today. Does that make sense? Have you made the most important decision of your life? The first study I shared in this series ‘The gospel In Genesis’ was ‘A Chance to Choose’. The devil doesn’t give his people a chance to choose. Oppression and dictatorship doesn’t but God does. God gives His people freedom to choose life or death. That decision that we are to all make will make us somebody. We are based upon our decisions in the past. We have to understand that we ourselves, are progressive. Character is progressive, it never stops. It is like time or the tide, you can never stop your character development, you can’t stop it. If you lie in bed all your life, your character will be built according to that decision. You can’t stop it. You can’t choose not to make a choice. In fact if you choose not to choose, you have made a choice already not to choose. But sometimes as Christians, do you ever wonder whether you are the Lords? Do you ever think, has the Lord received me? Do I belong to God? Have I chosen Him? Read the rest of this entry

02 Your Face is Telling

Paul Godfrey

Audio: mp3

The best repairer is the manufacturer. In mechanics that’s a fact, whoever built the car is the best person to fix the car. We all need repairing. The whole world needs repairing and the best one to do that is the person who created it, the manufacturer of this planet. He can fix us. When we dwell upon the power of our God, really, is there any excuse, any reason for stress? When the Israelites came before the Red Sea, do you think they were a little stressed? Perhaps a bit more than a little, I think they were very stressed. Here is this big mass of water and it posed big issues considering the situation behind them and the situation beside them; big mountains, black Pharaoh coming after them and this water mass in front of them. If they considered that in the creation God divided the waters from the waters, they would understand that this little puddle of water before them was nothing that was beyond the capabilities of God. God can separate the waters. The Bible records that God sent a wind. That word ‘wind’ translates as spirit. When Noah was on the ark and the water was everywhere, it says that the Lord sent the wind and it dealt with the water. Read the rest of this entry

The Bible tells us that we should always ask for the old paths.

How to Have Kindness

Paul Godfrey

Mp3

Jesus is tenderly calling, calling us to enter in at the strait gate to enter into His love. He is calling us with this tenderness. My question is, do you hear Jesus calling you tenderly? Do you hear Jesus calling you to enter into these characteristics of love that we have considered? Do you hear Him calling? It is my prayer that we will hear Jesus calling us to enter in at the strait gate. We have looked at a few character traits and the last one was patience, how to obtain patience. There were five main instructions that the Bible brought out and that was to connect patience with the other fruits of joy, peace and trust. As you seek for the joy and peace and trust, this is one step of obtaining patience but the second one we considered was knowing Gods will and knowing God so you could say with the scriptures, I know that all things work together for good. I know that everything I go through is actually positive working and because we know that, we can have patience. The third instruction that the Bible ruled out was being temperate. We are to add temperance to patience and self-control both in diet, in the natural but also in the spiritual. The fourth one was patience which is gained by experience and experience is gained by patience. The Spirit of Prophecy says that if we want to cultivate patience, we need to practice patience. 08 Neither Offending nor Taking Offense

By Paul Godfrey

Audio: mp3

The only way to be secure in this world is to receive the seal of the living God. To have holiness, the name of the Lord imprinted on your character that He would be all and in all and He would be to you everything. This is the security that the Bible tells us will last that will not be destroyed. Satan knows that so he has made war and his war has been in these last days to use sorcery to deceive all nations. That sorcery, those chemicals that he has employed are catalysts to release chemicals in your body to infiltrate your heart so he can put his mark on your forehead. This method being used today is just a refinement of a method that was used a long time ago. The method used today is through the apostate religious movements. These spirits go forth to prepare people for the destruction of the world. This affects every single person on this planet, you can’t avoid it. Read the rest of this entry

The Abnormality of Normality Part 1

Paul Godfrey

mp3

I have a question I want to ask. Are you normal? We think we’re normal and everyone else is a bit weird. Although intelligently we are all a little weird we act as if we are the only normal people in the world and everyone else is a bit strange. To be normal is something we strive for. The fact is, if something happened to us physically we would worry about what is going on until the Doctor says oh that is just normal. Then we sigh in relief thinking we’re normal and not weird after all. We find a great comfort in knowing we are not alone or odd and being with a crowd. There are some people that like to think themselves as a nonconformist. Even non-conformists have certain conformity to be able to be non-conformist. If you don’t meet that non-conforming conformity you are not a non-conformist you are really conforming to everyone else. Whatever the dynamics are in society, we always want to be normal with some people we can associate with and that is why Jesus says broad is the way and wide is that road that leads to destruction. We think if everyone is doing wrong and we will just be one in the crowd, who will pick me out to be punished more than anyone else? I remember when I was at school whenever I was in trouble I felt so much comfort in being in trouble with someone else. If I was there by myself it was never as fun as when I was there with someone else. I would take comfort with someone else being with me in trouble and we do this in society. We generally call normal whatever the populace is or does but if that is the case then fidelity in marriage is abnormal and it is not normal for a Christian to really follow Jesus if we go by the populace. We go by the majority saying what everyone does that is the norm. Read the rest of this entry

How to Overcome Sin

The Wheat and the Tares

Paul Godfrey

Audio: The Wheat and the Tares

We have a problem with misapplying scripture. This problem is not a recent problem it has been happening for years. Did the Jewish nation misapply scripture? Did it matter if it did or not? It makes a difference to how and when we apply the words of God. To apply the words of God at the right time is present truth. Noah preached present truth to avoid the worldwide flood of water. We are not calling people to enter into a wooden ark because it is not present truth for us but as in the days of Noah so shall it be in the days of the Son of man, in that people are misapplying the prophetic declarations of God’s word. We have a problem today with the wheat and tares. The Bible clearly says let the wheat and tares grow together until the harvest. Misapplying the prophecies causes us to consider the harvest as a future event. In other words, we cannot start being dogmatic about the truth because the wheat and tares, the false and true have to be together. It is prophesied. People believe the wheat and tares have to stay together because it says let them grow together, do not start pulling them apart. What did the Lord say to those who wanted to come and pull them out? He said do not do it lest the wrong people are pulled out. People say the wheat and tares must grow together because the harvest is at the end of the world when Jesus comes so let’s get cosy with each other and do not worry about it. The Resurrection

By Paul Godfrey

mp3

Jesus was dedicated to the Fathers will and three times He asked that the cup would pass from him in Gethsemane. The mob took Jesus and at midnight a committee was made and Jesus was brought before the religious leaders. Jesus was bearing these leaders sins. As he came before them, false reports were given. They had twisted his sayings and manipulated everything he did to suit their purpose that they had premade.
